I saw them charging 9 bucks on 31st Dec as platform fee in a lot of cities. Cheap stunt being pulled in the name of "war rooms".

you want to have everything for free? then don’t cry when these startups don’t make profits
their counterparts in USA charge much much more

Why would I be crying for them? Idgaf whether they survive or not. They have been treating riders unfairly for years and try to shortchange customers and restaurant owners wherever possible. I would rather they didn't exist and the restaurants earn their fair share without having to forego 30% of their bill value on commision to Swiggy and Zomato

Well, can’t blame them. They can literally print money at will now. This is the classic example of a success story you can give to haters of early stage VC backed loss-making businesses.

The plan is to take it to 10-15 per order in next 12-15 months

At which point they'll start losing Tier 2+ cities because you might as well get something from nearby or maybe have an outing. If it's something you frequently order or relish regularly, ordering directly by keeping in touch with the owner will be cheaper too and arguably you receive hotter food too.
Getting a 200 something dish at 350 doesn't scream worthy at all. Why get Zomato Gold even then?

Nah thats when they release Zomato Diamond. Zero platform fee if you pay 99 per month 🥲

The person who thought about this as a business is a genius of our times.

They are milking users properly

I think charging platform fee is okay, after all we are paying for the convenience.

It should be removed for the subscribers atleast. Not Zomato but even after swiggy one I was charged platform fee apart from the marked up food and the super super marked up packing charge (which is the actual cost of convenience)

If you can't increase revenue through the core business, you resort to this stupid platform fees. Lot of companies will do this unless the consumers do something about it.
