Anyone successfully transitioned to freelancing?

Hey folks, I am a senior software engineer at Swiggy working in as a mobile engineer for the past 5 years. I have worked on few backend & infra stack in past companies (node js, go-lang, kubernetes, s3, etc) just for exploring and expanding my horizon. I am thinking of seriously perusing this now. What are my options here? I am open to learning via online course / my own side projects. Also how to approach for hiring given it won’t be my expertise but I am willing to be hired at a lower package for the long term benefits. Reason to consider a transition is boredom with working in a single domain.

Any tips on how to get started. I along with two of my friends are looking to get into freelancing. And we are a perfect mix of engineers. I am a Backend dev with 2+ years of experience and one of my friends is a lead AI engineer, the other is a fronted engineer with extensive experience in react. Any help/lead would be much appreciated.

Any thoughts on career transition from full time at big companies to freelancer? I have 5.7 years of exp of FSE. and would like to settle as freelancer in near future. I want to experiment this option for 1 year and if not succeeded is it okay to switch back to full time emp? Is it worth taking the risk considering my financial status? I see these are pros and cons Pros: Complete wfh. Direct contact with clients no boss/manager Cons: Income will be effected if no project. Continuous search for projects. Risky. Any other pros and cons one can think of pls mention in the comments. I would definitely try this option for atleast one year.

I joined industry as a front-end engineer back in April, 2022 and now i am feeling like expanding my horizon of skills and start doing backend. Also, I am hearing it from people that there is not much growth in FE in terms of compensation. So, curious to know the views of people here and would be great if someone can guide through. Hello folks, This is a call for every software engineer and broader community. I’m a 30 year old customer support employee who worked at Airtel, MPL, Wazirx and I have 5 years of total experience all things customer support. About a year ago, laid off at Wazirx due to crypto taxes and regulations and it’s been an uphill battle to find a steady job in the market. Did few freelance jobs but nothing is working out. I’m at a point where I’m unable to even get by on monthly basis. I’m a Engg dropout as well, so no degree, no real top notch experience to land other roles. I finally decided to have a crack at software jobs and pivot to whole new field. I have few queries, if anyone can find some time and answer them, it would mean the world to me 1. Do I need a degree to land software roles ? 2. To pivot to coding roles ( no prior experience), where should i start ? 3. There’s an ocean of misinformation out there, I’m really confused on where to start and which courses to take up? ( Planning to take up Phyton ) 4. Can coding help to land freelance jobs ( I know it’s difficult and takes time to reach good enough of a level but I’m willing to work hard and put the hours in ). 5. I’ve been wanting to build something on my own, I have built and hosted a few apps. But I couldn’t scale as much as I would have liked. I have contemplated on running a startup but I don’t have any trusted team member to support me. Building software apps is my passion. I want take benefit of my passion to make money. Is freelancing a good option to do so? Share your experiences, if any. Would love to hear ideas on how I can convert my passion of building apps (both web app & mobile app) to make money. PS: I am at a full time job and I’m looking for a side hustle.

As Software Engineers, it might be bit difficult starting out with first freelance gig or contract job. I was able to secure one in college with about 50k/month for about 4months working as a back end engineer for an Indian SaaS company and international client. Great learning and great pay for a newbie. Also if you have a full time job and freelance gig. how do you juggle between both? Keeping in mind you also need to take personal time and time for fitness.

I am 24. I am at a job which I am good at, but it doesn't make me happy. I want to try out different things in life(tech and non-tech alike) and figure out what's truly fun for me, all the while outgrow myself from my comfort zone. Anyone who has felt like this or has successfully done this, need inputs/thoughts on how to proceed
