Do you feel lesser need to hustle after making a decent amount of money?
I did not grow up in a lot of money. I ordered looking at the prices on the menu. This feeling has stayed with me and has fueled me to thrive, push harder, work long hours and get to my goals. I'm 5 years into my career, and last year I had a feeling of "making it". I had enough to not look at the menu, or even the place I'd be going to. This feeling is really really satisfying and I took some time to sit with it, enjoy and bask in this glory (humbly). But I also feel my drive to hustle and do better has gone down. For instance, I'm okay pushing work to tomorrow, I'm not as keen to pickup work. I feel some of graveviners could relate to 'making enough' story. Have you also feel a lack of hustle to keep you going? What do you think is the reason? For experienced folks, I'm really keen to know how to get past this slump.

I felt this once I sold my startup. Through my other investments I have enough to not work and make whatever I spend passively. Got my own house, private office and a decent car. Family pressuring to get married. I felt a void though as I was like for what should I work?
And then I saw one random youtube video of a guy, I think he was some famous personality but I don't know him. He said he works to be "useful" , not to earn money.
That changed my perspective a lot. I thought why does Mukesh Ambani work? He has to be useful to take millions of people ahead in life. He can retire tomorrow and not have to worry about money for his 7 generations.
I started thinking about ways I can contribute and that led me to forming 3 new companies. I now have a "purpose". Feels nice to get up and have some aim. And its good that its not money.
The fact you're not married and have seen this level success makes me so happy for you bro. Thank you for sharing this.
I see your point of working for a higher purpose. I think with some reflection, I should be able to get to that point. Currently, I'm just stuck in a weird limbo.

Thanks. One trick that I use is if I have the slightest idea/inclination towards something I quickly act. For example I bought domain, gave a guy to design logo. Scheduled meetings with people. And declared a public launch date. That forced me to act as I had spent a couple of lakhs already and had deadlines to meet people and show something. Helps me overcome procrastination.

Damn bro. Im going through the same. For me it happened in the starting 2 years of my career. I worked day n night, worked my ass off to get a well paid job, and I got it… but the moment i did get it, my motivation to work more was gone.
I keep telling people, I’m happy with whatever amount of money I’m making (doesn’t mean i don’t love appraisals xD).
It is said that when you feel yourself hitting your limit, you look back ok your journey and remember the reason you started… but i always wonder, what if the reason I started wasn’t left anymore!
Guess I’ll be looking at the comments section too, to find some solution.

Great stuff OP. I am not here to suggest anything.
Just want to ask you one thing. My motivation to work only comes to earn a hell lot of money. I just got into my job and I am not sure, if this is what I should aim for or not. I have tried to convince myself that there should be a bigger goal than just earning money, but at last I come to the same point again.
My parents struggled a lot with money, and I want to provide them a life where they or me don't have to think of money again.
So, it would be great if you could drop some thoughts here.

Most people in India have come from very humble backgrounds and realize the importance of money. To have money as the end goal for a country without social security is ABSOLUTELY NORMAL and healthy. Just make sure that it doesn't cross a line whether its doing shady things or keeping your health on a lower priority. Atb!
My sense is the privilege to look for higher purpose will come when you feel comfortable in life (financially).
There is nothing wrong with the fire to work to make money. But make sure you love what you do. It makes things easy.

I have gone though this myself. The only thing that keeps me going now are
1. I look at my net worth and see how I can increase it. Again it’s just a numbers game
2. Know that whatever you make might not be enough for you to retire so you gotta keep at it. Set a goal for yourself and work towards there
3. This feeling of making it will eventually go away. If you can share your network I can give you a reality check too 😅

Make decent to live adequately today -> Realise it's a grind and there are people better than you -> Chase numbers, make more money -> Die (or retire if lucky) 😂

I'm 1 year and a few months into my first job and I already feel like giving this all up. I've saved a bit, but mostly I feel like I'd be happier making a lot less but doing something that actually makes me happy. Money can drive you to hustle only so far, it really has to be something more than that. Fully agree with approaching your work as it fulfilling some larger purpose. You'll be driven as long as you resonate with that purpose.
What's your CCTC that made you feel this way.
Ik people with 3.6lpa as well have the same feeling like you and it depends from person to person.
But wanted to know, what's the salary that makes you not look at the menu. Just curious.
Intern at 5k per month in delhi, slept in halls of random folks over a period of two months to save rent.
First job from tier 3 college, for two years worked my ass off, owned the tech, created black box and got great hikes.
Switched to US based startups in 2020 and this is when I really took off, got 200% hikes.
Before this I used to blog, open source or tinker on weekends.
Post this its just drugs and games.
I m glad i hustled and it worked out but I m also scared that I won't be able to do it again now if need arises.

Someone said perfection is the enemy of "good enough". But if you're only five years in, you have a loooooong way to go my friend. I'm pretty certain these five years would in no way define your final five. Life's full of surprises. Keep the door open to new experiences.
