How to transition into backend development?

Hi everyone, I am a frontend developer(3yr+) who wants to switch to backend development. I am looking for some advice from people who have made a similar transition in their career. How was your journey and what was your plan? What do you recommend I should do to become a backend developer? What skills and technologies should I learn? Also, how should I handle the salary and job search aspects? Should I take a salary cut or join at the same salary? 💰 How should I approach HR or put myself on job portals? Please help me. I am feeling confused and unsure about my career path.🙏

Hi guys, I am currently working in a SAAS startup as a backend Engineer. Tech stack: MERN, AWS, little bit of GenAI now. I know most big companies use Java springboot for their backend, so I'm thinking to learn it is I want to switch later. Or should I go for golang as it's becoming very hot in recent times. Or should I continue with NodeJS? Let me know your suggestion. I have worked on little front end development as well.

I am current working on native android with 7+ years of experience and I want to switch to backend. Any suggestions?

Hey folks, I am a senior software engineer at Swiggy working in as a mobile engineer for the past 5 years. I have worked on few backend & infra stack in past companies (node js, go-lang, kubernetes, s3, etc) just for exploring and expanding my horizon. I am thinking of seriously perusing this now. What are my options here? I am open to learning via online course / my own side projects. Also how to approach for hiring given it won’t be my expertise but I am willing to be hired at a lower package for the long term benefits. Reason to consider a transition is boredom with working in a single domain.

Hi I currently work in Qualcomm as a Software Engineer. I am from 2022 batch. I am in one of the teams where we are doing core software engineering work in C programming language. How hard is it for someone to shift from such a role to a proper Backend Engineer role in a Product based company where the product is more dev centric than some org like Qualcomm?

Hey folks, after learning the basics of golang. How do I get into backend Development with Golang? I don't have the energy and time after my hectic and toxic work to do long video courses, unless it's very very good. Can you please suggest a way that I can learn backend Development in a way that I can create my own product from end to end? And if you had to start the backend Development from scratch, How will you do it? Current experience - 1.6yoe Frontend Engineering (React.js + Javascript) Work life balance - Doesn't exist. Have almost 2 yoe as swe Backend. I have worked only in Java and nothing else. The work is related to data engineering cum backend. Worried about future on how to switch etc. Should go towards backend path or data engineering path. How to upskill and move ahead?? Ps: have acquired some knowledge of django, springboot, gcp etc. what else I should know??

Hi folks, I am a frontend engineer. A bit of background about me: - Exp: 4 years - Tech: Over the years, I have only worked on frontend and some build tooling. For all these years I have only used JS/TS and ReactJS to the point where I currently feel handicapped in other languages. My problem with frontend: Most companies I have worked till now except for one, frontend is just converting the UI designs to UI code as fast as possible. Most companies do not offer much time to think about different cases for a component and write it well. Its mostly, if it works then push. Contrast to this, BE does get proper design + arch to ensure it scales well with future requirements. Why I am thinking of backend/fullstack roles? Seems better from future point of view. Progression is clear in BE, lot more roles it seems, interview process is mostly standard. In FE its sometimes FE releated, some DSA etc. So never sure what they going to ask. Also, progression in FE is bit unclear and how to make a case for it. What are my options? 1) In my current company, BE is Java + Springboot, I have started doing some BE tasks here and there but seems Java + Springboot is a mammoth and I dont know if I will be good enough for a switch of roles with this experience. Switching inside the company feels a far fetched dream since there are far less number of FE devs and I have to mostly work on FE tasks one after the other because of scarcity. 2) Learn and do some side projects in Node.js since already familiar with JS and also had done some small APIs(freecodecamp) based on nodejs in the past. 3) Learn python, good for backend software dev + good for ml also going forward. Seems easier than Java to get started with django. Primary confusion between 2 & 3 is, does side project make any difference when switching for roles or will actual job experience with option 1 be of more value even though it will take a long long time? Please suggest if someone has switched roles before. Thanks.
