Hi, I am working as test engineer. I will be completing my 2 years in this company by next month. I am planning to switch. Internally I am facing to get a developer role. In experience letter I may get designation as Test Engineer. is this a drawback when I wanted to work as developer in other companies. How can I switch to other company as Java or Salesforce developer?

I am currently working as QA at Keysight technologies which is a Electronics company, mainly focusing on automation with basic python.But I want to switch as backend developer, should I gain expierience of year as QA or join startup immediately at any pay?

I have 10+ years of experience as QA automation engineer and now I am thinking about changing the movement from QA profile to Dev profile as I have seen some of the exponential growth in dev profile, I am sure If I am thinking it correctly but I think this would be a good decision for me so Posting here to get some feedback about it.

Have been working in this service based MNC for more than 3 years being given the domain of company’s choice ni change even after requesting for change through ijp. Preparing for switch and really want to work on SDE role as I have build stuff in college days and before getting selected in this mass hiring. Want to build stuff rather than just validate it but will it be okay to switch to dev role after 3.5 yoe what can be the challenges and consequences that I might have to face? What would you suggest moving from manual qa to sdet first or directly to sde roles? While being paid less than 6ctc what should be expected ctc?for switching to sdet or sde with no prior experience only self learnings through courses? Working in service based company for these many years which companies to target for both learning and earning growth?

I have 7 years of experience as a manual tester. In terms of my coding knowledge I'd rate myself 2/10. I'm married with a daughter who will be turning 1 very soon. Considering the inflation and increased cost of living, I think my CTC is pretty average. A developer having 2-3 yoe generally earns the same or more than I do. All my friends are earning shit ton of money and I feel like I can't compete with them. I don't have to compromise on anything if I want it or need it but I know I can't live a lavish life with what I earn currently. Here are some questions that come into my mind: 1. Should I switch from testing to development? 2. How much growth can I expect just being in testing? 3. If I were to make a switch to development, what tools, language should I aim for(considering my coding is really poor)

30M here and currently working as a QA. My current ctc is 14LPA(6Y.O.E). Currently I'm on bench and looking out for projects. Parallelly I'm also looking outside, incase I don't get any projects in my current company. The problem here is I'm not very good at writing programs(Or atleast that's what I think) and constantly face issues in programming questions in interviews. I have always been an A+ student, scoring in 90's throughout academics(Scored 100 in chem and phy in 12th). But never been able to clear programming interviews. This is affecting my self-confidence and I keep getting self doubts(One of my senior in my first company told me that, I'm good at theoretical concepts and I fail when it comes to the application of said concepts). Now I'm into automation testing and as I was looking to switch, I kept seeing multiple openings for Mobile Development(Development in general, be it backend/front-end/full stack etc). The below reasons made me thinking as to why not switch to development: 1. My current CTC is low for my exp and testing usually don't have much openings 2. Testers don't have much respect in the Industry(Even from people working along with us) 3. Not much scope to earn more from testing field My current thoughts: 1. Enroll into a Java course from any offline institute and learn Java thoroughly first. 2. Switch to a good company with decent pay 3. Invest time for 1-2 years and learn development and then try for some startups. Any advice to my thoughts? Am I thinking in the right direction? And also, if anyone who has done this transition(Or similar transition) could shed some light on how you did it and what difficulties you faced, I would greatly appreciate it.

Storytime - I have around 4 years of experience in QA field where i do manual testing. So i changed my field to frontend dev in pursuit of good salary and thought that software developer will have more roles. My previous company invested little bit in me but did not give any major projects. Then they fired me on basis of lack of logical skills. So i started looking for QA roles and dev role. Also i get to know that sdet roles are also a thing where people can earn as much as sde. Now the problem starts, i was laid off and given 1 month salary. So i found one job which is remote and it is of QA job . Until this point i made my mind that i will move on sdet path . Then my friend has referred me to one company before my layoff. So they scheduled one tech interview for frontend dev and i cleared it. I cleared it because my friend give me problem😅. Also there is no hr round and they also released offer. Now the problem is i have joined QA role. i am little bit scared that what if i joined sde role and same thing again happens to me. Little company fires me for not completing my task on time. Then i will lose my current job too and i have to start from zero. Compensation details - QA role - 9 LPA Sde role - 10 LPA Both are remote. Sde role can be on-site. In my mind , mostly i will reject sde role due to fear. Want to know opinions. Thank you
