How to deal with friends who only want to talk about salary whenever we meet.
So I have couple of friends from college and I meet them during weekends. Whenever I meet them they wanted to talk about how much they have given taxes, what their salaries is or how they worked this week. I know that work gets too much and sometimes you need to vent somewhere, but everytime we meet this is becoming too much. Sometimes I feel a bit out of place as they comparatively earn a lot than me. I meet them to clear things out of my head and prepare for next week,but this constant comparison is getting too much for me. I have asked them to talk about some other topic but sometimes after we come back to discuss the same things
Stop meeting with them and try to find another friend group. I had the same issue, my college friend group only care about how much I'm earning now. I feel like it's only for comparison to make them feel better/worse. But I stopped / reduced meeting with them for my mental health.
Sometimes such conversations are helpful as motivation that such salaries are also possible. But repetitive talks get boring and bring you down.

I don’t know but someone should have taught us this - Not every roommate, colleague, college friend is a real friend, Feel free to ignore, move away or block people who aren’t matching your energy.
You are average of people around you, Think from that angle and keep people who have similar ambitions in life.
It's an integrity issue they should not do like this. Anyway, jokes apart either change their company or topic.. everyone has a different perspective towards life.. A job change in IT can increase your salary by 40-60 % . So that they should understand that it will not always be about the competitive world but a satisfactory world. there might be scenarios where they don't want to make you frustrated knowingly but could be vice versa.

Be honest about how you feel with such discussions.
Based on if they change or not you can start looking for new friends and keep in touch with these old ones lesser than the new ones if needed.
You need different set of friends tbh. Or u can say upfront that u dont wanna discuss about xyz things. Not hard actually.
