Why are companies laying off jobs even after profit ??

From the last few days there were talks going on about layoffs in Morgan Stanley. Some 7% of the global staff will be handed over the pink slip in this week. Well... It started happening from today ... Few colleagues from my department were laid, and the reason being "company is trying to survive in the market, company is planning the road ahead by taking such bold steps". When this was announced, my anxiety shot up the next level and I couldn't wait for the meeting to finish. The past few years have not been great for the business worldwide due to which many companies are forced to take such steps. These companies just have been doing a hiring spree from the last 1-2 years that now they are regretting their decisions and letting off their employees. My question is - "If a company hires excessively during the bull market and is forced to lay off few of the employees during the downturn, has the company made an error by not evaluating the headcount or it was just simply the need of the hour" Please note - I know many people out there who have faced job cuts due to many factors, sincerely requesting people to take this matter very seriously

Guys, i am in final year B.Tech, currently preparing for placements. My Parents advice is to prepare for Govt Jobs. They are fearing about the layoffs, but my aim is to get job in anyone of the MAANG. I just want to know why layoffs happening. As we know tech companies and startups are laying off people left and right irrespective of making profits 🤑💰. It's understandable if the companies are out of funds but doing this when you are enjoying profits is not acceptable. And u guys are also not any less. Stop being a victim and fool. Stop complaining about layoffs on social media platforms as everyone will forget them with time. It's time to do cutoffs on your behalf. Cut off subscriptions to big tech companies and startups. Join this wave of cutoffs to see the news of subscription revenue down by 10% or 20% rather than companies cutting off workforce by 10% or 20% The change should start with you. Stop subscribing to Amazon Prime, YouTube Premium, Spotify and others. Encourage your peers to do the same and see the change yourself by the end of this quarter

Why do some startups lay off people even when they know that they'll be raising money soon via new funding? Case in point: Dunzo Are these employees given severance? Or is it just that Hi, Hello, Today is your last day, thank you, bye that you see most startups do? What are your thoughts on this?
