Offer from grab Singapore as head of analytics

Singapore is a very good country. It's an emerging hub for finance and technology in Asia and at par with Dubai. You've got a very nice salary which is equivalent to any C-suite level role since you're going in for a chief position at Grab. I think you should go for this role and spend few years of your career outside India if you haven't in your previous 20 yoe. You'll have a great career growth and also your kids will have a top quality education in Singapore. Also Singaporeans universities ranking better than IITs, so rest assured your kid will definitely have good education if they're pursuing STEM degree. Singapore has a high human development index in the world. Singaporeans are very knowledgeable and highly intellectual people I've known. Unlike US and Europe, Singapore is hardly 5 hours by flight from any major Indian city so you can come to India anytime you wish over a long weekend. Infact you can afford to come every weekend (if you're not taking your family along to Singapore). I've tried finding a job in Singapore in Oracle domain several times but I'm not getting anywhere more than SG$ 12k for my experience level. After having 20 years of experience. I would suggest having a peaceful life. If you are super fit in terms of physical and mental health then it's ok to pursue. Else here are my thoughts I am pretty sure there would be having responsibilities interms of family/older parents. Kids. Since you are earning great while in india. I would suggest to discuss this with your family. Upto 300k SGD per year is pretty much middle class or a little higher in Singapore. Owning a car is damn expensive. A hondacity costs you more than 1cr. Singapore work culture is more demanding and people work for longer hours. Expectations are more. Europe is more chill I would say. I am pretty sure. You could fund your kid's batchelors or masters anywhere in the world.

Disruption to family and child's education. 2. Higher cost of living (could be mitigated by your salary) 3. Potential for longer work hours and stress. 4. Get a litmus test by going through Glassdoor, reaching out to current Grab employees via LinkedIn to get some idea, and you can be upfront about this question to the recruiters as well for Cons 3 and 4. I have seen your posts many times. Do you really hate this company? 1.8 cr with remote is awesome anyway. But again people have shown you a rough calculations incase of affordability in Singapore. Personally mai chala jata agar family is fine moving there.

The joy of driving on long weekends , living with/close to parents, ability to give time to your children is unparalleled. No amount of hike can compensate for it. Money / career progress give us transient happiness.

@DotingThumb nothing is better or worse. You need to understand your priorities. Talk to your family rather than strangers on internet. Understand their priorities. Then decide accordingly.

Quick note about Singapore that nobody has mentioned yet- The work culture there in general, is very bad. Entire country’s corporate work culture is bad, and toxic. They overwork and under huge pressure. I have worked with a Singapore based company in past and have been to the Country as well for a quick office trip. While the Country is really great from lifestyle and technology advancement perspective, the work culture is just too bad. In fact, one of the colleague from my previous company had reached out to me asking if I want to try a Job opening in his team and I had refused. So before making any decision, think over this aspect, talk to 2-3 people who have worked both in India as well as Singapore, and ask them about work culture.

You need to decide whether all that money coming at the cost of wlb, WFO, stress, away from India/family etc is worth it, which only you can decide.

@DotingThumb ,In terms of work, I think you would grow exponentially in grab as you already said there is not much to do in current organization. You can come back any time with your experience. Don't take your family for first 3 months. If you don't like it switch after one year. Second, if you need machine learning engineer with 8+ YOE, you can always reach out to me. 😬

Seems to be a great opportunity but really comes down to your priorities and current family situation. Take your family's opinions, how do they feel moving to SG. SG is definitely one of the best place to live in Asia. Try to visualize living in SG and how would you feel about it. One of my friend made a pact with a SG company, he was working 2 weeks from India and 2 weeks in office but after 3 months it didn't really work and he left that job.
