Why are slum tours even a thing
I came across this on Agoda, and it's truly absurd. People pay to observe individuals living in poverty and dire conditions in Dharavi , resembling a human zoo. Do Westerners consider this to be a tourist destination after watching "Slumdog Millionaire"? What's the matter with people today?

I was in class 5 then but I never understood how someone laughing at our poverty can make India celebrate it with headlines in 1st page of newspaper?

But, why do Indians celebrate and allow such shit?
How has that movie changed their situation till date?
Did they get help? No,
Did govt felt ashamed? Busy scamming and running its own political circus in Maharashtra.

When these tourists go there, some of them might even help them in someway in near further by helping build something , it can be any sort of help. The government is literally doing nothing about these slums. It’s been so many decades since we got freedom , and it won’t take crores to build basic amenities at such places.
So let the world see what’s happening.

And also this will help people build cases of understanding human psychology. May be govt is trying to help but people over there don’t want to improve their lifestyle ?? There are a lot of gundas there. The reason might be that??
As much as I hate this, it is still true. Not sure whether to be angry at the tour guide or govt.

Govt is partly to blame. I won't blame the tour guides. They exist because of the demand. This crap needs to be banned by the govt first
Maybe it helps them? Like some local gives a tour and makes money and the rich guy visiting also gives them some charity i guess
