A new trend going on... 💀
Nowadays companies tend to take 5-6 rounds of interview and One of my friends had gone through a similar procedure for 3 companies now- all into Fintech(one is a big MNC doing good and the other ones are startup) initially they moved forward with the CTC although they didn't have the budget and after 6 rounds of interview(5 general rounds and 1 to be more sure). I don't know how you cannot be sure of someone after 6 rounds of interview and why companies are not transparent about the CTC they can afford. It has happened to a lot of my known SDEs including myself. Just wanted to vent out, just because of the ongoing market conditions, companies are troubling the candidates a lot. Did you guys also have similar experiences?
@GrapeGodfather after having the HR round of discussion on friday, asking him to visit the office once to get to know about the product and people- one of my friends got a rejection mail.

One of the companies simply has put my profile on hold from January and on calling I get to know they are discussing my CTC. She is not even rejecting the candidature but asking me to wait so that they can get someone with a lower CTC than me.

This trend of multiple rounds of interviews is indeed a headache. It's a waste of time and energy, especially when companies aren't transparent about their budget. It's a manipulative tactic to lower the candidate's expectations. Companies should respect a candidate's time and be upfront about their budget. This practice needs to change. And yes, I've experienced this too. It's high time we raise our voices against such unprofessional practices.
Just a proof that market is bad. I thought well known companies might not do this but @Bugs mentioned Phonepe so I am worried
Phonepe recently laid me off giving a bullshit reason that they can't even defend but I have moved on. They are hiring people who are good bargain or urgent requirement that's why their hiring has not stopped for 3 years. Btw internal cost cutting is going on.
I could have build a great career if I hadn't joined phonepe as I had good offers from reputed companies. I am still looking out and yet to find something.
Ohh thanks for sharing. My friend is in accounts team at Phonepe and he mentioned work is reduced but no layoff within the team so I thought things are smooth. Guess it’s hard to identify safe companies to go in

I interviewed for 5 rounds at Amazon, including bar raiser in early feb. I was told that they are going to release offer letter. The next day I was told that they moved ahead with an internal candidate because he was in the same role in a different team. I was then told that bar raiser suggested me for a different role. Now the recruiter says that I'll have to wait for a month. They're not rejecting also. I'm fed up at this point. 😑 extremely disappointed
And cherry on top, whenever I pinged her for updates she used to get irritated like a dhfdebsnsn😤

Happened with me multiple times.
Even after multiple rounds it's very difficult to get offer even if rounds were good and there are opportunities but not that much.
@Spy0007 this thing has happened to me thrice in a single month, either they demote the role because of budget or else put offer to hold.

I've a question. do people from other high paying professions with good yoe (>=5) also suffer like experienced swes? like corp lawyers, consultants, bankers, vcs?

No, experience is a curse for SWEs especialky greater than 10 years, you are a burden ready to be replaced by ten juniors.
Lawyers, bankers, architects more the experience more are they valuable and more is job security.

I got ghosted after qualifying 6 stages of an interview process 😅.
I just took it as a good refresher of my learning since the interviewers were knowledgeable.
Happened to me too. It was a fintech company. The first 4 rounds were good. Then for some reason they added another round.
That didn't go well and they stopped responding. I called HR after 1 week and he said feedback was not good.
