How's HDFC endowment policy? They're claiming a >30% return on the principal amount. Are there any risks involved with such a policy? Anyone invested in such policies?

Endowment Policies are money making products for their company and not to the buyers. Keep investment and insurance separate.

If you want insurance, buy simple term life policy. If you want investment, buy stocks or MF. I would suggest to avoid fancy products which we don’t understand

Ask them to give the assurance about the same on a Stamp Paper as a Legal Document and tell them after that You will invest. Better, I too will invest as if I get 30% return in 1 Year, I can practically retire in 5 Years.

Reqd the fine print in your policy. 30% may not be annual but instead over 4-5 years. Anyways do not mix insurance and investment

Think from first principles All the endowment plan invest in g-secs which yield around 7-8% *now*. Insurance company takes a cut of 1-2%. On all premiums you are taxed under GST You are technical investing 82% of your premium In the end your yield should be around 4-5.5% which is absimal not even beating the inflation

Never mix insurance and investments. Simple. I was also contacted by my RM for this, this is just waste of money and figures are distorted. Save your money and rather invest same money in stocks and take insurance from a good provider

What are the drawbacks of HDFC Sweep In facility?

Read up about FD sweep ins in HDFC. It comes in handy when you have all money invested in FDs but have to make some big urgent payment. So if you break your FD you will lose interest and get a small penalty. Hence FD sweepins are an easy alternative and they clearly claim there is no loss in Interest Rate. So my question.... Have you ever used HDFC Sweep In facility? If so what are the draw backs feels a bit too good to be true... If we have an IPO mandate and don't have sufficient funds in account, will sweep in work for this as well?

ULIP investment worth it??

I have been receiving calls from HDFC to opt for ULIP plans. I didn't know much about it. Now I knew after much discussion with their fund manager and research on internet. What worries is the charges. The plan HDFC recommended had 12% premium allocation charge for 1st year itself and other charges after that. Still want an option if it is worth an investment and if any other bank or service that offer better ULIP plan.
