Are we over-doing the world cup celebrations
Seriously, we won a world cup after 14 years, and a T20 at that, which happens frequently. We have the richest cricket association in the world, pouring infinite resources to train people. We're picking the best of the best from a population of 1.4B where each kid wants to be a cricketer. Even after that, it's not like our competition is the entire world, only 10 countries play in the "world" cup, and half of them are novices.
Now keeping all this in mind, is it that big of an achievement that we're celebrating like crazy. PM, CM are inviting everyone, we're organising a rally where millions of people are showing up, every one seems to be in a frenzy. Personally I think iwenare overdoing n a way. Anyways don't kill me for this opinion.
Anyone who's been a cricket fan for long knows the victory in itself wasn't very impactful.
It's that it was pent up for so long and for a few cricketers it's coinciding with their retirement from the format. Hence the celebration. Indian cricket had blue balls since 2014, and now they have finally orgasmed, and what you are seeing is the after effects of that.
Hopefully this paves the path for other victories over the next 2-3 years, now that the "jinx" is broken.
The billion people analogy and cricket world cup being played by 10 teams is obviously bullshit. This time we had 16 countries playing the world cup. And the novice ones that you are talking about, one of them reached the semi finals and the other knocked out Pakistan. So, yeah.. You play the cards you are dealt. Indians are not the most genetically gifted human species, and yet we dominate a physical sport, it's a remarkable achievement.
Good morning 😇
