This is very new for me to spend 37k on a phone, it is not financially bad decision for me at this point of my life. But people talk about roots, I grew up in a lower middle class family with a frugal mindset. I am confused. How do you folks who came from a similar background and making a okish to decent amount of money now spend on things you always wanted without feeling guilty?

I remember making 7000/month and spending all of it on travelling by Uber everyday because my dad didn't let me use the car and the Summer heat was making me melt. I needed an AC so I instantly blew almost 4000 rupees/month on just Ubers. With the rest I went to a nice restaurant with my mom+dad for lunch and it is my most memorable moment in life. I felt like I had grown up. The internship was also nice and I learnt a lot of things about building systems for a startup. It was one of the best 8 weeks I had spent learning something new and cool. I bet I used to look like Shinchan in this picture when I was in the office and seeing 40 year olds talking to 20 year olds like they were their buddies. I was about to call them uncle hahaha. What was your story from your First Job/ Internship?

I come from a poor background, but somehow I worked extremely hard and now I earn decently well (above 60 LPA cash). My problem is- I don’t mind spending on others. In fact I don’t even think twice before taking my card out and buying things for family or friends. I have also lent money to multiple people when they are in need of help (total close to about 2-3 lakhs). But it doesn’t bother me even a bit. I don’t even care about whether I’ll get it back or not. But, when it comes to me, I find myself struggling so much and questioning my decision to buy things even as cheap as INR 200-300. And most of the times I find myself going extra miles to save a few bucks. In fact, I also recently downgraded from a bigger to smaller apartment, because I have been doing so much maths around saving 7-8K a month. Maybe there is some part of me that feels that I don’t deserve any of this. Anyone has any idea how to fix this?

I grew up in a family which used to be just above poverty line. My mom had worked a lot to provide making 7K a month. I now have a job that pays 15lpa. Other than good food on table I'm not sure what i should do with the money. I save everything left after removing house expenses Which is 75% of my income. I know saving is good but i don't want endup saving a huge pile and dying without using any of it.i want to exprfi6good things. How did you guys spend when you tried to raise from almost poor to a decent standard of living

I am a 26/M/60+LPA/IITian Software Engineer at a FAANG. I have spent most of my time travelling places with my friends/solo and have dedicated a significant portion of my small life to my career, and I am quite happy with it. I am confused about one thing tho, should I get married? given I am happy living like this, I just want to hear what men have to say on this, I want to know given a chance would you guys get married? If yes how to check if a woman is a fine fit for you? I made a rule to only date a woman who makes at least 70% of my salary OR has an excellent academic background AND should be humble. With these set of rules the chances of finding a girl is almost slim to none given ratio at good colleges and at high paying tech jobs are like that 🤧, I am sure people won't find these rules good, but I want to know if I am being stupid pls correct me it will help me reshape my thinking. Help me guys 🫡.

A faded memory dawned on me early this morning while commuting to work, as I saw few kids leaving for school. A few years back, I was teaching underprivileged children in a distant government school as a part of a social initiative. We asked kids, What do you want to become when you grow up?” I really felt humbled and privileged when the kids responded with Policeman, Driver, Mechanic, Patwari(govt official who keeps record of lands) etc. We even remarked that whether they would prefer to be a pilot. And they responded with No. Perhaps, it was representative of things that they knew could achieve and things they could not. It may even have been that their initial choices were likely due to positions of power that they had witnessed and wanted to emulate. Probably, they were not exposed to various options that exist out there. As my cab whirred away, I was left with a deep sense of gratitude upon recollection of those memories. I really hope those kids achieve whatever they set their sights at.

Posting here not for bragging but to just let people like me know who look at extraordinary salaries and feel sad - it is possible just believe in yourself. I never thought I’d reach even this. 4.5 years of workex in a non-tech role, started with 35,000 monthly salary. I know this number might not mean anything to the FAANG tech bros out there but for the rest here is a bit of context - - I come from a middle class background - Not from Tier 1 college - Not a software developer - No MBA as of now - This doesn’t contain any inheritance - Send some money home every month for parents Dont get overwhelmed, just keep your head down and don’t compare to anyone. I try to keep a strict budget, track every transactions, limit my needs but once a while splurge slightly when I feel like. See you all at the next milestone! 🍻
