Homeowners of Bangalore - Opinion about water shortage

- rainfall has reduced - > 70% lakes have dried up/covered up by builders - its not even feb and there is shortage of water everywhere. There are people literally carrying jugs of water on their head like villages if you head out after evenings. - brigade/sobha/prestige societies with flats > 1.5 cr have put out notices with water supply being cut for more than 6 hours everyday, wtf is Bangalore real estate really - water supply here was really bad initially ( hard water, polluted water) but the water shortage in feb only is really worrisome. I want to understand homeowners/aspiring homeowners - how are you planning for this? Are You even worried about this? It is only going to get worse. With increasing demand, unpredictable rains and worsening infrastructure and water bodies. Few people I know have put off buying new apartments

Both . But people do invest in “overpriced “ properties so high prices cannot be the reason . So I am more inclined towards - low assurance of value of a basic need like water after paying huge amounts

Thinking of selling my property in another 5 years. Currently staying in North Bangalore. As of now, no water problems. Water is through 2 borewells. Though, I see that there would be water problems pretty soon. There are multiple properties coming out in the vicinity which will poise a problem in the future.

Was contemplating on buying property, but rethinking now. But obviously the city will find a way as the land mafia who have invested deeply in real estate here will need people to continue living here, rental or otherwise. Plenty indian cities face much worse shortage and continue to grow. I don’t know how, but it seems as bangalore may suffer, but no as bad as cape town

Interesting View.. I guess you answered urself - Is it because of land mafia that cities have continued to grow despite bad infrastructure and negligence? Guess Bangalore will also reach its peak bottom - people will say enough - and then Land mafia will kick in to revive the city -(Just hope it happens soon )

Govt will enforce and impose RWH if the situation continues. Nothing more will happen. It should solve the problem to a reasonable extent. There won't be impact to real estate.

It's going to get worse. Don't buy here. Am ere since 2007 and it has gone worst. Not going to improve. Am regretting after buying flat here water now stopped in our apartment for 4 hrs each and we stay next to a lake which has completely dried up. So my advice don't buy

This is more of an apartments issue and not an independent house issue, I live in an independent house for the past 10-12 years and have own borewell, not had water problems even for a single day. Water table needs to refill naturally, we usually run the motor once during the day fill our tanks and then don’t need it again till the next day, which gives it plenty of time to replenish! Apartments have thousands of people living and a borewell runs continuously, obviously it will dry up in a few years!

Politician now control water tanks and where roads will be constructed. Next they will dictate the metro network based on the land parcel they hold. Vote or exit is the only option
