IIT grad bias
I have heard/ read so many companies blindly hiring and promoting IITians to roles they are not suited for. Many young grads are given manager roles, and they know sh*t about people management. just push all work to juniors. How are Founders not able to see through this?
Not sure who is spreading this fake news.
Being from a good college like IIT/BITS/NIT definitely helps in getting interview calls but promotion has got nothing to do with college as long as it's a decent place.
Having worked in IT for 4+ years, never saw this.

Probably not in IT.
I work in one such company, also read so many posts on grapevine too
Check Zivame's job openings. They only hire from Tier-1, same with Tower Research. But yes there are only handful of such companies. At the end of the day, your skills matter

@BiryaniEnthu My company doesn't hire freshers from IITs as a lot of those folks comes with 'attitude' issues 😂
(Also, interesting username. By any chance, are you from KL?)

Addressing the core problem here of that of managers not being apt for the role:
1. top reason is no training is offered especially in the fast startup space for first time manager. So burden goes on the employee to come out good.
2. I see this problem also coming from mistaking years of experience as the qualifier for managerial role. Say a dev with 8 years of IC exp in now and EM to n+ folks. All this done without guidance or thought/budget allocated for training.
Even freinds have mentioned how the EMs in India they worked with were not helpful, untill they worked under a solid EM form EU with Amazon experience under the belt.

Times are a changing
Diversity split is still sad though, less than 10% female founders
Inc42 has found that over 60% of Indian soonicorn founders do not hail from IITs, and over 77% had a non-IIM background.
