Seeing both kind of orgs where the requirement for a particular level/designation are starkly different. While looking for the next move it’s becoming difficult to understand if it’s better to take a lower grade at a bigger org at similar pay or should not compromise on designation as it will also determine your next step. Anyone else observed the same?

What would you suggest someone who has been laid off on how to navigate career trajectories given the uncertainities ahead. Many folks would have planned their career paths but due to the change in situations all of this has gone for a toss.

How the current SDE1 and SDE2 will get accomodated in IT industry in future. Hear me out. Currently lets say there is a team of 10 members in one of the IT company. Lets say 4 are sde1, 4 are sde2, 1 is sde3, 1 is teamLead. Now in future since higher positions are very less, how these 4 sde1 and 4 sde2 will get accomodated. In past years, for those who are currently at manager+ positions, when they were sde1/sde2, at that time number was low, so they got accomodated easily in growing IT demand. But now it seems there are already too many IT companies, seems very low probability that count of IT employees in total of India will even increase by 10-20% in next 5 years. Every year lakhs of IT engineers are also getting graduated. They can get that sde1 positions, but what about current sde1 and sde2 ? Do we need to find another career ?

Whoever comments, please explain in detail your thoughts. Need some discussions to decide future career path.

Future of Software Devs

Hey, 

I am a SWE with 2 yrs exp. recently I found out that juniors in my team are being paid atleast 10% more than me. This thing has been bugging me so much that I setup a meeting with my manager but here’s the thing- I have no idea how to talk about this to my manager. I obviously think it’s unfair given how much more work I am doing. 
Can experienced people here please guide me on how to approach this meeting?

Software Engineer

I am a Product Designer at an Edtech Startup (raising 20m Series B soon) with almost a year (1) of full time experience but overall almost 3 (including internships) at some great companies.

As I am looking for a change what salary should I expect? Considering:-

- I have a design degree from a Non-IIT/Non-NID Tier 1 University (known for good engineers) [so good foundation hopefully]
- The companies I have interned at range from Japanese MNC/Conglomerate, Indian Fashion focused E-Commerce Giant, Indian Food Tech/Delivery Giant & an Indian Digital Transformation Giant.
- The average stipend I earned at these companies was around 40K/month.
- The salary I earn right now every month is between 70 - 90K
- I believe I have Got good Product focused UX knowledge. [Part of the Product team not a seperate Design Team]
- Not another Figma/Framer drooling Designer.
- Many of my peers from my alma mater are placed in Big Tech or Desi Giants owned by Foreign Giants

So what salary should I be expecting? (Keeping aside the ESOP/RSU part)
Is ~ 1.25L/month in hand is right ask?

Which offer is better and why? 

Pune:
CTC: 20+ variable(no clarity on variable)
Company: Startup with 1 year hike cycle (bare minimum hike)
Company Size: More than 120
Reporting to: Business Head
Role: Core BD with slightly overlap of cross functional 
Stability: Slightly more than Bangalore one(I would say 1% more since they slightly work as lala company)

Bangalore:
CTC: 22 +12(Esops)
Company: Startup with 6 month hike cycle 
Company Size: Around 30
Reporting to: Founders
Role: Set up and lead the entire Business and cross functional roles(cr.functional offer better learning and growth tooo)
Stability: OK than Pune

Both the company are startups and in terms of stability the Pune one holds higher stability at company level(I would say 1% more than Bangalore) but since its sales roles so I think it doesn't matter. (as per LinkedIn the avg duration of sales folks is 11 month in Pune company)

Which offer is better in terms of growth prospect and considering that you want to move to higher role in the future or may be start again in future ?

Hi All,

I have 8.5 years of experience. iit + iim (recent 1 year mba ). initially I worked at analytics KPOs , then I worked on my own startup. post that I worked with a b2c startup as a program manager . Worked in growth, analytics , cross functional etc etc 

Then post mba , I am again working at a startup managing a team of business analysts. 

I feel like my career is not really going anywhere. I have become a "generalist" suitable for early stage startups but I do not want to work at startups any more. 

what do I do ? How do I move into bigger companies for better stability OR find a stable suitable startup where I can become a VP (but then a VP of what ? )

Hey folks, so I am a 2022 graduate and I'll try to make this short as much as possible:

* I was giving interview at a company for backend dev
* Over the period got promoted from MTS to SMTS with CTC correction from 12.8 to 14.74 at my current company
* Last Friday did the cultural fitment round
* After following up got a call from HR saying they'll update me by this weekend
* However I updated her with the information regarding role change and CTC correction
* Now she asked what'll be your expectations
   * First, she asked whether I could shift with the same CTC, but I was hesitant, she took it as no.
   * I asked what is your range? She said there is no range
   * I told her as per market standard, she said I'll take 30% to herself as of now

So I need help here: 

* what can I tell her? Or should I tell her something before the weekend or not?
* Should I ask her if it'll be senior role as I am a SMTS now?

Also, this is the current salary  range as per Glassdoor of this company:

* Sr. backend: 25
* SDE: 15 + 6

Additional info for my current company:

*  My manager said that my base will be matched with SMTS in April which is 18-24
* Also heard the news that the company will not give appraisal to anyone in April

Got promoted during an interview, what to expect as CTC?

1st issue:

It has been almost 2 years since I joined a company as a fresher. Got the increment twice but still have the same designation.

Planning to switch after the completion of 2 years, will it be a hit point that I worked in a company on the same designation for 2 years??

Should I ask my manager or head to think about changing it?


2nd issue:

I do financial+ market research, data analysis, and working on a product that is yet to launch (I know this product more that anyone, not a developer but did robust improvements in it, gave several solutions for it, can say that I'm unsung Product Analyst here).

Based upon the above task, what should be my designation?
