Future of Software Devs

How the current SDE1 and SDE2 will get accomodated in IT industry in future. Hear me out. Currently lets say there is a team of 10 members in one of the IT company. Lets say 4 are sde1, 4 are sde2, 1 is sde3, 1 is teamLead. Now in future since higher positions are very less, how these 4 sde1 and 4 sde2 will get accomodated. In past years, for those who are currently at manager+ positions, when they were sde1/sde2, at that time number was low, so they got accomodated easily in growing IT demand. But now it seems there are already too many IT companies, seems very low probability that count of IT employees in total of India will even increase by 10-20% in next 5 years. Every year lakhs of IT engineers are also getting graduated. They can get that sde1 positions, but what about current sde1 and sde2 ? Do we need to find another career ? Whoever comments, please explain in detail your thoughts. Need some discussions to decide future career path.

This can be said of almost all industries. The following things happen: 10-20% will stop working (either because the other spouse is earning well or they have retired) 10-20% will move to other fields 10-20% will get stuck in lower paying jobs 10-20% will start doing consultancy work or open their own business

Some are stuck at the same designations or move to IC roles. Their title doesn't change but their salary does increase. Not everyone is interested in the higher level politics and are happy with their current work.

Most(35%) of the developers won’t make it past 10 years, they quit and venture out for their own business. Rest of(15%) join mediocre jobs and chill. Remaining 50% are in Cars24

This is not a new thing. This is an age old thing that you need less senior engineers compared to junior engineers. What this has meant in bigger firms is that engineer can be at same level for long. How this happens without frustrating the engineer is that next level bar is higher. So in a way let's put it If sde1 bar was x capabilities Sde 2 bar was x++ Capabilities Sde 3 bar was x++++ capabilities Sde 4 bar was x++++++ capabilities When the org realises that giving promotions like candies is not an option Updated bar becomes like below If sde1 bar - x capabilities Sde 2 bar - x++++ Capabilities Sde 3 bar - x++++++++ capabilities Sde 4 bar - x++++++++++++ capabilities Take any big company and you will see this

Too much of a trajectory change from SDE to Consultant

I am currently doing my internship at Amazon which is most likely not gonna get converted to a full time offer (provided the market conditions), I have another offer from EY for the role of Technology Consultant which would mainly involve work in data analysis. I have heard that it will be very tough to come back to an sde role from a consultant role. So I am in a dilemma of what to do next? P.S. I am currently an SDE3 working in Japan, in the past 6 months I have moved from SDE1 to 3. I am planning on moving back to India in the next year, can someone list their job roles as an SDE2 or SDE3. I personally think that there is a big gap of skills between the engineers working in these 2 countries (Indian engineers are better in terms of skills whereas Japanese are really organised). So I want to know where I lack so that I can prepare accordingly.

Bcz of the outburst of ai I feel there are a lot of data scientist/machine learning engineer/data engineer roles in the market and sde roles have bcz very scarce with 1000s of applications Should ppl shift to these roles from sde ?
