VP at blackrock
Why are there so many VP at Black Rock on LinkedIn with comparatively lesser YOE than it usually requires to be VP. Almost every one is 28-32 y.o. and there are 20-30 atleast in the NCR. Very less from IIMs,IITs so we can't discount that. Anyone have any idea? Other than fake profile? Any1 working there have any clue please could you comment on hierarchy or workflow .thanks.

I remember reading about this. The explanation was that people or HNI prefer talking to people in higher positions. So these investment banks just give fancy titles to make it seem like the investors are talking to someone high up.

Habe no idea bhai. I am just wondering if they have such a hierarchy that u go from AM or Mgr to Vp directly but the work is at par with mgr level and multiple VP reports to a SVP . They give away title and save money as lesser no of ppl would leave the VP title and join on Mgr level in other firm bcz no other firm would offer more than mgr or sr mgr at that YOE...so works out for employees and org. Employee get to be VP (AMONG 500 others) and org saves retention...maybe true...maybe
I know in Indian banks the fresh out of college kid gets assistant manager title so titles are useless tbh

VP (5+ yoe)
Executive Director (7-10+ yoe, Goldman doesn't have this)
Managing Director (7-15+ Yoe)
Pay depends on function; VPs in front end deal making IB can make multiples more than MDs in Tech

There's a law in US that broadly says managerial roles don't get overtime. So companies give fancy sounding managerial titles to a lot of folks to avoid paying overtime(think Customer care Executive instead of customer support agent). There's also marketing gimmicks

Yes but in India out own labour codes supersedes so unless we have similar provisions like the states or we give liberty to org. to let them decide OT to certain title ...i dont think that makes a diff here . Maybe an expert of labour law can clarify. Any one here ?#labourlaw #compensation act #lawyer.?

Almost 30% of Morgan Stanley folks have VP title. The movement from VP to higher level is very low. Its the case with almost all the Investment banks.

Generally finance roles hierarchy is different from other industries like IT, manufacturing, etc. VP in fin is not a big deal.

In banks majority of the positions have fancy titles. You go to SBI and almost everyone there is a manager. Same goes at BlackRock. Vp is equivalent of SDE 2 or SDE 3 elsewhere

In a lot of fund management outfits (not ibanking teams but retail, commercial, MNC, corporate, private banking teams, etc)) VP is a designation that is not at par with a VP at a startup or a well established firm. You may become a VP at these outfits after 2 promotions post MBA.
Whereas at a startup, a VP is expected to be someone with a lot of experience and track record under their belt.
In contrast, at a listed/well established firm, VP is even more senior (next only to an MD/CEO).
It purely depends on the industry, as to what weight a designation might carry
One college senior from Bcom batch of 2016 became VP in Goldman Sachs in 2022. He doesn't even have a MBA degree although he was one of the toppers in Bcom batch
