Guys at BlackRock, WTF is this
Recently came across this on my LinkedIn. Just out of curiosity how does this happen. I mean the guy started as an Associate 2.5 years back and is now a VP.
VPs are inflated titles in investment banks and other financial services companies. Such companies often have hundreds or even thousands of VPs.
This was done to make their clients believe that they're interacting with important people ("VPs") even though they're interacting with someone with 3-4 years of experience.
Once I went to private banks HQ for meeting with VP, I thought meeting will be in his cabin but whole floor was filled with VPs only ๐๐๐๐

In financial companies, VP is given out like cakes.
In IBs, you can easily become a VP in 2-3 years by just using vlookup and pivot in excel. Itโs similar to Assistant Manager designation being given in banks. The more knowledge you have, more time it will take for you to get promoted, bcz in that case company has to justify why this person has so much knowledge and know so much about work even at higher position.
If BlackRock doesnโt have AVP i.e. Associate Vice President then VP makes sense. But if AVP exists then itโs like double promotion
