So this happened with me, HR called me if i am interested in Job, I said yes and provided my expected CTC and current CTC. based on that they took my Technical Round which i cleared comfortably. Now in Manager round, the manager said they cannot provide me with my expected CTC and will proceed with HR round only if i am open to negotiation. Whats the use of asking Expected CTC at start if you are not ready to support that salary. Why is manager concerned with salary discussion ? Are HR dead in IBM ?

I'll go first. I got a call for an APM role from one of the companies which did sound pretty sketchy and the recruiter was started bullying me into answering questions, when I asked to know more about the role. The recruiter was extremely unprofessional, and obviously the conversation was nowhere great. They however, did go ahead and sent me the JD and other links, etc to fill in and apply for the job. Mind you, I hadn't applied for the job. 🥲
It just was a pretty sour conversation which had left me in an uncertain situation. Any similar experiences?

Weird recruiter experiences

Asked for my expected CTC. I answered and they weren't happy with it. Said they could only give at 40% increment of current CTC and then asked for my current CTC. After hearing my current CTC they said I shouldn't be earning this much and that I was obviously making it up. Then asked to send over my salary payslip which I refused. Basically the HR started being extremely rude at this point stating that I was being unprofessional. I asked their salary budget for the role which they refused to answer. Then I asked if they were willing to hire me for a lower CTC which she instantly agreed and said she knew I was reasonable and I shouldn't have lied about my CTC. I then said good luck finding a candidate for that amount and hung up.

I have given interviews and cleared them.
I got a call from HR asking for payslips and another offer details.

They said they will get back with offer.

How to go about here? If they come with a lower offer than what i asked, how much liberty i have to ask further.
Does HR will come with 2-3 various levels of offer and then try to negotiate with me.

Any help or insights would be helpful in how HR comes with offer details.
My interviews were pretty good and i think they like me.

How does salary negotiation before offer work

Don't share payslips yet if possible. Do it after finalising your offer details. 
  
 What information have you shared? Current compensation? Expected range? Do you have any other offers in hand? 
  
 The game that follows now is that of leverage of information vs offer expiry timelines. 
  
 They will share an offer. You can call it "interesting" but don't share more details on if you like it or not - you need to "think more" before you can share your opinion. Say that you need to discuss it with your well-wishers and also evaluate compared to other opportunities. 
  
 Get back to them on email and call the offer "strong" (if it is really good) or "interesting" (for all other cases). Suggest some improvements to the offer that would make it more compelling for you. Don't guarantee that you will accept the offer if these things are provided (unless it's your last day till offer expiry). Keep negotiating with everyone that is interesting and keep dropping the non-interesting ones. 
  
 Also, don't call the negotiation discussions a "negotiation" - that word sounds negative. Call it "discussing offer details" or something. 
  
 FYI: All of these tips are from the highly popular negotiation blog posts by Haseeb. They've worked well for me.

This was my pathetic interview experience with Acceldata india with a very unprofessional and lying recruiter. This story has a satisfying ending.

I attended 6 rounds of interviews in 1 month and completed a take home assignment. I cleared all the rounds and even had a manager discussion about my onboarding. All good so far. 

Few days later the recruiter called back and said we need one more round (8th round) with the director who sits in US office. I said Ok and he scheduled this call on a Friday 10pm at night. 

At 9:55pm I tried to join the meeting link he sent but the link was not working. I tried in different browsers, different laptop, different internet connection. No luck. 

So I reached out to recruiter on mobile and he doesn't pick up. I know he's available because he was on call with someone else. I even tried reaching him via a different phone number but still no luck. Imagine the anxiety and panic I had to go through since I felt that it was my fault. 

On, next day he casually calls me in the morning to say that "Sorry I tried calling you 2 days ago but your mobile was unreachable (which is a plain lie). He says he cancelled the meeting because he found another candidate with lower salary.

That's fine, and I don't give a damn at this point. But I asked why didn't he send meeting cancelled email so I didn't have to panic on a friday late night. He casually says "Sorry about that". That's the last I hear of him. No response after that. 

All this after going through 8 rounds of interviews and a take home assignment. All because this a--hole recruiter lied to my face and couldn't send a simple email. 

Funny thing is: Another recruiter reached out to me 3 months later for the same role. Apparently the candidate they hired instead of me backed out at the last miniute. 🤣

If you get a chance to interview at AccelData, trust me, please don't waste your time. The company and the recruiting practises are not worth your time, even if you are jobless.

It's unfair for you to disclose your compensation without getting something in return.

Let's CHANGE the tone of these conversations.

I always ask for their budget before I disclose mine. Enough people do this and it'll become the norm and gives you a fighting chance to safeguard against lowballing. 

Objection handling:
1. "Our budget is flexible depending on the role and experience" - counter - what role are you considering me for? What's the range for that role? - if they still deny that's bullshit, all companies even startups have a ceiling they've at least thought of
2. "Our hikes are fixed at 20-30%" - run. Or if you care about the co. try talking about market standards and fair pay
3. If they're being unreasonable and not giving any info, you say your compensation is confidential / not comfortable sharing it at this stage

Expected CTC - 1.2x Glassdoor/ambition box for business roles. Tech has levels.fyi. 
If they try to haggle at this stage itself, say you'd like to focus on the job fit and the opportunity and talk about compensation later which you believe would be open to discussion for the right candidate.

So I applied on Coindcx website for an open role about a week ago.

Their HR “manager” called me after CV review and asked general questions like past role, why looking for a change etc. Then came the CTC part. He said my expected CTC is out of their budget as their budget is like 10% increment from my current role but he will try to stretch to 15%, the next day I called and said since I need to move city as well if you can get upto 20, I am good. His response “lets start the process and then we will see”

Next day Round 1. The person join the called and was without camera, even though my camera was on (I always thought its common courtesy to have camera on). From her way of talking it looked she was not prepared or afraid to take interview.

There was no introduction, no hello, we straight away went to interview. She said she will ask 1 DSA question, 1 SQL question then some theory. 

I solved the DSA question, she asked me to add few things I did, now her reaction to this was (I am not able to understand how your code works so I am not sure it will give output).

Then we went to SQL question, her question had incorrect values and I had to point it out to her, I solved that as well with some assumptions as I forgot some syntax. She then forgot the actual output and said your output is incorrect then I showed this is what you asked so she was like okay

Then abruptly we ended the interview when she said please ask any questions which I asked around work, even that she was not answering correctly. It was like either she was not interested or she was afraid.

Within hours I got rejection mail as well.

So either because of CTC they did a formal interview (which  I am like you can say you are out of budget), or if your interviewer is not good please get it fixed.

Will never apply for this company for sure

One of the worst interview experience with CoinDCX

I had a similar experience with them a couple of years ago except it was a panel interview with 3 interviewers.  
  
 Nobody had their cameras turned on. They asked 2 DSA questions which I solved with correct output. One of the panel (the loudest one) didn't correctly know the amortised time complexity of the second question and I had to explain the maths and calculations from ground up. Then they abruptly ended the interview (no time for questions) and I got a rejection mail later. 
  
 I've never applied to them and will never respond to their recruiter messages again.

Guys, need a quick descriptive help here. I applied to the position of senior profile for which in 1st round only they gave asked youe CTC expectation and at what CTC you will not go beyond. I shared my CTC and after 3 days I got an mail stating that my candidature got rejected because they will not be able to pay that CTC which is market standard that i asked. Now, i want to work in that company because profile is good and will help to draft my career and i am ready to decrease my CTC expectation also. 

My problem is how do I portray over mail and what pointers i should be adding to convey them to consider my profile for next round of interview as i am ready to work at lesser CTC (asked 3x of my curent CTC when lastly was discussed). 

Note: HR didn't asked my my current CTC . She directly asked expectations and at what CTC you will not go beyond.

These job switch questions were already asked in first and second round as well and even by the HR. I think if everyone was convinced by my reasons then why the hell would I get rejected in the final round? If this was the problem then I wouldn't have worked hard for all the rounds . They should have rejected me in the first round itself if that was the only reason they wanted to reject me. Plus I asked for a CTC of 27 LPA. I have 5 yrs of experience. BCG HR said she doesn't have that budget. I laughed in my mind. How can the HR lie on the face even when they know that there are other companies ready to offer me more than even 27. They are like unfortunately we don't have the budget. After 3 days she called me again saying we will match your expectations. I don't understand why you would irritate a candidate by raising their hopes and then reject them. I think MBBs are overhyped. The leadership sucked. If BCG can't pay me 25-30 lpa then I think they have lost their game big time.

Have you guys interviewed at MBB companies and got rejected in the fourth round? Just because you had multiple switches? I recently interviewed at BCG and everything went well until the director saw I gave a valid reason for each switch.
