How much surveillance is enough surveillance when it comes to development monitoring?

From the same guys who predicted the cloud is a fad and everyone should build their own data centre, or cellular tech will never take off. I have been talking to a few companies, across different size bands. Only Indian startups seem to obsessed with full week WFO/Micromanagement. A few years back, startups were known for being more flexible, now it just seems to be the reverse.

Why can't we trust people to do their thing without turning the workplace into big boss. I signed up for a job, not a 24/7 surveillane I get it, productivity matters, but so does sanity. I'd rather have the freedom to get my work done without feeling like I'm being spied on. As long as I get work done on time. Does it matter how much hours I put in? Everytime I login I feel like I am being watched. This is making me go insane.

Hi, I am working in a early stage startup and our CEO has established the culture of transparency where he shares every update regarding company funding, customer sales, revenue and answers all questions within company but one thing that has been bugging me is his micromanaging. He has integrated a bot in slack which ask for what did you do yesterday ? and what are you going to do today ? , Everyday He also managed a spreadsheet of our tasks and takes the exact estimate in days makes a calendar view there and keeps asking up to update on our tasks progress in multiple meetings or on chat. I didn't had such experience in prior companies but he mentioned, such things were being followed in NyKa, DineOut, etc as well Does the well known companies like Phonepe, Uber, Zomato, google, amazon, Microsoft, De shaw, sprinklr follow this as well ? I just wanna check, is he doing too much or it this a standard in Indian companies ? Thanks to all whoever reply to this post, please share your current & past experience.

So I was working wfh since past year and recently shifted to a project after a promotion, it’s a nice project and something I was looking forward to work with, but now my reporting manager says that you have to clock atleast 8 hours daily at this tracking software ( Nippon Buddy ). And I’ve to report to office 12 days a month, that’s okay but this 8 hours capture time is kinda nuts. Do you guys have these kinda policy as well or is it just at service based companies ?

I recently started a new job. I would like to share some of the experiences I have had with my manager. I am wondering if these are red flags or if I am maybe being paranoid or thinking too much. It was quite difficult for me to get into this company and this job. The company is quite great and I was quite excited but some of the experiences I have had with my immediate manager have made me a bit apprehensive. I would like to share them and hear opinions about it. Here are some things which have happened which I have not liked so far - 1. I speak to a Senior Engineer one day and next day my manager asks me if anyone asked me to speak to him. 2. I shared an insight about a new tool which we can use on a deployment pipeline on the overall pod (under my skip manager). My manager immediately called me and started asking my status update and replied 'Discussing 1-1' in the group to prevent anyone getting visibility of the idea. 3. My manager pings me whenever I go offline and recently he asked me in a passive aggressive way, 'Please monitor your Teams status. It was away for most of today.' I now feel kind of paranoid to never get up as I feel my Teams status is being monitored.

Hey everyone, I was asked this question in one of the interviews: How would you structure the approach/org of analytics at "X" to ensure a successful, sustainable data management and offering? -- What would be your thoughts on this and how will you answer it?

If absolutely all software engineers obsess over business metrics rather than technology it would be net-net great outcome for the ecosystem as well for the individual economically, socially. I find it childish when a CTO/Architect/Principal engineer obsess over code & infra architecture, low level/high level design, scalability. Outcome: --- I want engineers at all seniority levels and all disciplines must only care about biz metrics. Product management should cease to exist. Everything tech will fall into place. If you were the product manager of the "bangalore", how would you approach this? One approach i thought - --- To get into Bangalore tech ecosystem you must need a certification from a institution (For ex: Tech School), absolutely mandatory from this school irrespective of your college background. This tech school will allow everyone to enter, online lectures, teach customer empathy, research, industry standard tech, product management, design. Aim is to set correct mindset for growth and first principle thinking. This will make college background irrelevant.

Although currently there are no casualties, but the clip of someone jumping off the building to save themselves still haunts me. They are currently in critical condition and I hope they recover completely. It is starting to appear that rapid growth is becoming a duel edged sword. Yesterday's incident is a stark reminder that development and safety need to go hand in hand. What is the opinion of others on the platform. There have been other fire related incidents in other metro-cities as well.
