Someone ain’t scaling the right way 💁🏼‍♂️

The bank tried selling me the plan. 1L investment for first 12 years ₹40k return every year for 40 years. Also some death benefit starting from 10L upto 24L depending on maturity. My thesis has been that finance has been made complex deliberately and it isn't rocket science. Would love to hear some madeup complexities.

“Show me the incentives and I’ll show you the outcomes” - Charlie Munger. I haven’t yet found a profound statement to describe everything that happens commercially across the globe. Share your examples how incentives are misaligned with outcomes that you would expect so we can think deeper. Let me start off - 1. Relationship managers advising you to buy financial products that have high commission vs what’s appropriate for you. 2. Insurance agent / broker selling you policies with high commission with poor returns or missold benefits. 3. Doctors advising you to get a surgery when it may not be really needed. 4. Pharma companies potentially not finding cures when they keep you hooked lifelong on their drugs? 💀 These are some things I have wondered about. What about other examples?

Context - I’ve been in the industry for a decade now. Industry pay and other metrics are actually not that bad. Just never felt that it gets the same attention as banking/ consulting/ investing, etc. I feel there is a genuine lack of quality in the talent in the industry.

Have you guys ever been mis- sold a financial product like life insurance policy or ULIP?

Not an Anti India or Indian hating post but I work in sales and I’ve discovered that Indians act so entitled as if they’re some high and mighty royals who have transcended from heavens above when interacting with anyone who’s calling them after they themselves requesting for it. Half the times these dumb clowns can’t even articulate 2 sentences together in English and struggle to understand what you try and tell them but act like they know it all. We’ve got to clean up our act as customers and human beings before we make a bigger mockery of ourselves than what’s already out there. No wonder we’re categorised as the cheap hooligan crowd outside.
