Sharing Wisecrack's video regarding gamification of gig working

I tried Ola ebike service for commuting a short distance ~ 5km. The experience was good and the fare was also cheap(50 Rs.). I spoke to the driver about earnings and whether he has to give EMI for the OE bike. Then he showed me the below table - how his earnings are calculated. I got shocked at seeing the high earnings amount - upto 4.5K daily which amounts to 1.35 lac monthly! He told me that Ola ebike is for short distances only - Upto 7-8 kms. And he is able to get average 3-4 rides in 1 hour, and he also doesn't have to pay for the vehicle rent. The Charging is also free at Ola Chargers. I couldn't help but wonder how can Ola sustain with this much spending. If they're giving upto 1lac to every driver and charging the user very less, that's a lot of cash burn.

At this point it's just Boot Licking Delivery app founders. How come the opinion of a sample size of 1000 *young people* who are not even gig workers, get to be representative of whether gig worker unions should have right to bargain wages. Everyone knows how harsh and unsafe the working conditions of delivery partners/gig workers are. On top of it now these companies are squeezing their wages to become profitable. Not trying to moral police folks who order food and groceries online(even I do it), but this is just not sustainable. Sometimes it just feels wrong someone is traveling 5+ kms just to deliver me food and the guy/gal is not even being compensated properly. I work with Swiggy and as many of you already know the culture has become extremely toxic in Swiggy. Expectations of working 12-16 hours per day, be available on weekends, play dirty politics, blame other to save yourself , get really really aggressive, all of this with a constant fear of losing your job. The leaders are saying this culture change is required to achieve high growth targets for IPO. They say a culture like this is required to raise the bar & keep people on their toes. But looking at Byjus it appears that this may help in the short run but eventually things fall apart. Employees are human resources not machines. But these toxic leaders don’t really care, as there is always some people available to replace the previous lot who left due to the toxicity. I really hope the leadership of companies like Swiggy open their eyes & realise this before it’s too late for their business. And people who are considering to join Swiggy. BEWARE. This isn’t the place it used to be. People have left within 1-2 months because of this culture. And nearly EVERYONE is looking out to switch.

GV nerds kept fighting that tech jobs are secure and ireplaceable. 2d back, i said to someone that u r safe until a senior intern(workex with low pkg) or AI can't replace u...saw that happening...swiggy replacing sdes 1-4 by ase from witch and senior interns. 🚀 If I would have been the CEO...I will charge a bit extra for swiggy one, raise few inr on platform fees and keep those employees safe. ( I got free swiggy one subscription from last 1y) Employees should be like family else why will anyone join them again? Put yourself in laid off employees with huge emis of home, car and may be Europe tour. They should provide therapy alongwith 3-6m severance also. What are generally the metrics used during layoffs ? Is it division by division or each employee is vetted for his performance and contributions ? Do high salaried folks generally targeted even if they have good performance and history with company ? With the overall bleak atmosphere in startup ecosystem and lack of transparency in this process from employers wanted to know how are decisions made. Most say it is performance based in news, how true is that ?

Uber , AirBnb , SWIGGY, Zomato etc are "Comission" or "Bicholia" Companies. Why do they keep losing money? They should make money even if they are to provide attractive offers to drivers/delivery guys etc Is it because they spent too much "Growing" and its impossible to make the money back? How did this happen.
