That 20+years person is still a junior? You can certainly work smart by balancing your time. Product companies are certainly better but there are mediocre teams within product companies too.  
  
 Yes work well done will get you more work. What did you expect then? You do one thing great and then sit idle in success? When you do an exemplary job you get more challenging work so that you can grow and build skills. And use the skills and achievements to showcase your potential to future hiring managers.  
  
 If you get stuck in the job slogging then it's a problem. If you are learning, being challenged, and growing in roles then it is what you must aim for.  
  
 Overall reward for the job and the challenges you face at job is that the increase in socioeconomic status, safe retirement, building wealth, being able to afford travels and other small perks in life.

This advice was given to me by someone who has worked for 20+ years in IT.

"The reward for work done is always more work."

So always manage you time properly here. If you keep working hard then you will be exploited by your manager. He will always take credit for your work. You will do the work but it will be presented by a dumb senior to the client.

So your strategy should be:
Always complete your work on the weekend. Then every day you need to reveal work done slowly. Monday to Friday. This way you will chill during the entire week. People will think you do work but in reality you are coasting and chilling.

Use this time to upskill and interview for other companies. Then get out of IT and go to a Product company.

I was on bench in infosys for almost 1.5 years and just went into project for 3 months, not learned anything as that was very fast paced and complex project which was about to deliver. Situation arises and I had to switch.
Somehow cracked the first interview after preparing very interview centric in a month. Next company hired me as Sde 2. I told them I have only 2 years of experience but cause of my previous salary they gave me Sde 2 designation.
I was happy but worried that I have no relevant skills , how I’ll be able to handle the job.
I tried to learn concepts as much as I can , I assumed I’ll get into a project with existing codebase. I’ll be able to do my task by analysing the existing codebase and in few months I’ll be able to pull off.
But things went south, they pushed me in a complex project which need to developed from scratch and have very strict deadlines, here the team size is really small, currently 3 developers with no senior or TL.
Currently I am the main player as they gave me sde2 designation. They expect me to deliver high quality code and deliver complex story independently within  limited time. And me who struggles in writing html css. Although I have conceptual knowledge of angular and knows how things work and understanding code. But due to lack of handson and no experience i feel confidence and don’t know how to proceed.
I was trying to uplift myself from a long time but now I’m really tired, I feel that I’m depressed and need consultation.
I feel I am no good, I have no skills and wasted 2 years of my life doing nothing. I feel worthless and my whole personality got affected.
I don’t feel interest in anything, feel no hunger, just want to close my eyes and never want to open it.
I feel shameful as being from a middle class family, my parent have all I wanted. Had an education loan running, my parents was very proud of me when i got my job with a decent package after college .
I feel I failed them , I feel I can’t do anything in future now, everything seems dark and no light. I feel tired , heavy headed all the time . Sometimes things to leave all the things and end myself.
I want guidance , I want to be good in something, feel confident and want to work and grow.
I have some saving by which I’ll be able to pay education loan emi’s for 1 year, and will be able to survive with minimum expenses for 6-8 months.
 I am thinking to take a break for 4-5 months and upkill myself in data science or cloud as per market trends, and then enter into IT with some confidence and relevant skills.
Cause currently I have no confidence and always feel fear and depression.But i fear if I do so, career break will ruin my career, what if I may not able to get the job and end up being unemployed. I will waste my 2 years and previous experience.
I really need guidance at this point of time of my life . Anyone who can guide me on how to proceed from here and what to do next.
I am really looking for a hope in form of guidance, I am really confused and demotivated. My life is not making any sense.
If someone can guide me at this point of time and really help me out , I’ll preach you like my god for rest of my life.

I recently started a new job. I would like to share some of the experiences I have had with my manager. I am wondering if these are red flags or if I am maybe being paranoid or thinking too much.

It was quite difficult for me to get into this company and this job. The company is quite great and I was quite excited but some of the experiences I have had with my immediate manager have made me a bit apprehensive.
I would like to share them and hear opinions about it.

Here are some things which have happened which I have not liked so far - 

1. I speak to a Senior Engineer one day and next day my manager asks me if anyone asked me to speak to him. 
2. I shared an insight about a new tool which we can use on a deployment pipeline on the overall pod (under my skip manager). My manager immediately called me and started asking my status update and replied 'Discussing 1-1' in the group to prevent anyone getting visibility of the idea. 
3. My manager pings me whenever I go offline and recently he asked me in a passive aggressive way, 'Please monitor your Teams status. It was away for most of today.' I now feel kind of paranoid to never get up as I feel my Teams status is being monitored.

Is my manager too much of a micromanaging red flag ? I started a new job and my manager monitors my Teams online status.

Yes this is straight up micromanagement and insecurity. 
  
 Just stand up to him man. The more of such things you allow him to do, the more courage he will get and more he will fuck your life.  
  
 Just stand your ground for a few times and he'll understand that you are not the guy he can do this to.

Bit of background: 23, graduated from tier 1.5 CS degree. I’ve never worked hard in my life, can’t recall a day from past 6-7 years where I’d spent over 6hrs in a day doing something productive. 

I’ve been blessed with good problem solving and street smartness, cracked really good tier 1 companies without even prepping, got really interesting international achievements, got good communication skills. Most of exams etc I gave in my life, I scored high without prep. This is a lot of brag, yes, but now working at a corporate things are going downhill for me.

I’ve realised that hardwork beats talent every time,  people around me are getting ahead by working and doing productive things, whereas I’m spending most of time scrolling reels and watching yt vids. My manager and other seniors have mentioned multiple times that I’m not performing well and need to work much harder. I have set up really high standards for myself but I’m doing nothing to achieve them, I try to setup new goals and doing things but I know, that has never worked for me in my life. I envy people who are able to work multiple hours in a sitting and do those things again, everyday.
I’ve seen my dad working really hard as well, waking up at 4:30 for business, then working late till 12 for all my childhood. I really feel I’m going to be the failure, everyone has setup high standards for me, but I just can’t commit to anything.

I’m really in the lowest point of my life, need a bit of advice, thanks!!

1. Work hard in your job. Don't complain and waste time. We know everyone is replaceable, but work so damn hard that if at all you decide to resign and switch sometime, it should come as a shell shocker to them.  
 Build a program/product/team from scratch, own it end to end so much that they'll never find anyone close to you who can work with the same efficiency. 
 You'll obviously take your learnings and apply them later on in your next job, but 
 You'll also earn the respect of all your colleagues which might be needed in your future corporate journey. 
 2. Don't chase money early on in your career unless you actually**need** it. Focus on building relationships, knowledge, learning to code (it helps) and earning respect of your colleagues wherever you go. 
 3. Don't get into smoking due to peer pressure. AVOID IT.

Hi all. I need your advice.
I passed out in 2023 and joined Capgemini as a software engineer.  I have been tagged to the Guidewire project but I am not getting interested in that domain because the main problem is that the Guidewire developer demand is only in service based companies and few product based only. Apart from those few companies, no one even knows what Guidewire is. I don't want to work in Guidewire. Everyday feels like I am wasting my time. I don't want to learn guidewire and waste my time. My manager has now even started scolding that I can't even fix one jira or issue alone, I know nothing about guidewire and to be honest I don't even want to learn it Whenever I get free time I have started learning mern stack development. But this will take a lot of time to do it properly and then switch to another company.

Now what should I do? Stay in Capgemini only till I get prepared in 1-2 years completely or leave the job and focus on learning mern.
