What to learn? : Sophomore Edition

Here’s a brief intro about me: I’ve worked as both software engineering manager & software technical architect over the last 18+ years on various tech stacks managing backend, frontend and a little bit of cloud. I have seen ups and downs in the software industry. Currently I’m working as a senior architect in one of the product based companies in India.

Before anything help me put together a checklist for all the skills I need before I can reach out to you for a referral. As of now I can do the following, - Create independent views - Pass data between screens - track and manage state - navigate from one screen to another - have good language fundamentals under my belt. - can use @State, @Binding, & @Environment I know more but the above is what I'm very comfortable with. I feel as if this isn't enough, which is why I ask you to guide me and let me know all the topics other than what I've mentioned that would allow me to grab a decent intern opportunity. ( RANT ) Currently in my 2nd year of engineering in a good college in Bangalore . I am worrying a lot about career , my day starts with thinking about interships, skills, studies and ends with which career to pursue , startups / big MNC . All my day I am worrying. I know this should not be the case but I can't help , nobody around me are thinking about future, I can't discuss with anyone, they just chill and enjoy. Has they are from CS / EC , there placements are secured which is not the case with me. I know I should be focused on CGPA and skills ,but these thoughts scare me a lot , I don't know where should I focus on , which direction I should start working, no guidance, nothing. like this only 2022 passed. I have plans to pursue MBA . How to stop worrying

Can you please suggest some projects ideas which can help me get a dev job at a startup. Currently the work I get at my current job doesn't involve coding (its mostly setup and bug fix involving very minimal coding). I think I need to showcase my coding skills with some projects, but can't think of what to make. I have been advised that common apps like e-commerce, blog etc. are ignored. (correct me if that's incorrect). So, looking for some ideas with some details for projects.

Status: 1.7 yoe | Passout from Tier 3 Position: SDE1 at a product based company (Java Backend) CTC: 5.2 lpa I resigned from there in April because of personal health reasons plus the work environment and the pay did not suit me well. I was confident to find a better pay as compared to how/the amount of work I got done there in comparison to my peers but unfortunately I feel lost now. From last two months I am focussing on my DSA concepts, and now feel a bit confident to start interviewing again. One of my concern is will this type of career break impact seriously or is that acceptable to companies. Secondly, sometimes I also get confused on should I focus on the core subjects again thoroghly or just grind leetcode properly first and then maybe a week or so on OS, DBMS, OOPS, Java, Spring Boot (based on my last project at work). Kindly give some assistance on time partitioning since I am getting overwhelmed in order to get myself "fully prepared". Also pls help me with referrals, if any.

What advice would you give a second semester student of a tier 3 college who is currently learning DSA in Java . I will start the web dev from the 3rd semester. (August) Any advice for me to get a good job or internship opportunity 🙂🙂

I have completed my B. Tech few days ago. Working in a small startup for 3lpa and I am not getting any projects to work. Initially I was trained to work in spring boot . Now they are told to learn devops and so I learnt them and now I'm not have any work related to cloud also.Sitting simply throughout the day. I have joined the company as intern in july 2023. Any Guidance what to do what to learn. I'm currently learning DSA. I have knowledge in spring boot, AWS and some devops concept.

I am looking for an internship in web development or SWE profile where I can learn something and gain some experience but my resume is not that good or you could say mediocre, i only know basics of most of the skills in my resume. So, can someone suggest something which can be helpful for me?

I am a final-year CS student and will be graduating this June. I have been doing internships since 6th semester. In my first and second year I used to code like 9 to 10 hours a day and learn new skills and thanks to that I was able to grep an internship in start of 6th sem and since then I am doing internships and its been 1.5 years and I have done 2 internships, one as an backend developer for 6 months and another as an ML Engineer for 10 months and I am still interning over here and I have learned a lot and have worked on many amazing projects, now the problem is my current company told that they will give me full time offer if they receive the funding in April or may and HR told me to consider this as no and now the CEO of my previous internship called me and asked me if I am willing to join there for full time and I told him I am waiting for the offer from here and he told me that he will try to match the offer but I don't want to join the older company as there the culture is toxic and I also don't have other offer to negotiate as I did not sit for on campus placement as I am getting paid more as an intern(50k per month) then the full time offers the companies are giving on campus. Now in 2 months, I will be graduating and still, I don't have full-time offer now I feel like all the sacrifices I made in my first and second years went in vain, all the hard work, consistency, missing parties and trips all these things now makes me depressed, where did I go wrong and what should I do now?

I'm from a tier 3 college and can't get my hands on good projects or cool teams to work with. My peers are bookworms and have no practical knowledge, I feel completely directionless atm🫠. Anyine know where I could look/ what I could do?
