Tech spending has gone UP by a lot. These companies are playing on the USDINR arbitrage and still will choose to pay you peanuts so that they can enjoy insane profit margins in this business. You are literally being treated like a daily wage labourer here, the only difference is you are dressed up in formals. 

Let this be your call to start something new or switch jobs.

Let's talk about being highly underpaid. It's a reality many of us face, yet it's often shrouded in silence. Whether you're in a corporate job, a creative field, or any profession, feeling undervalued and underpaid can be demoralizing and unjust. It's not just about the numbers on our paycheck; it's about the recognition of our worth, our skills, and our contributions.

Too often, we find ourselves in situations where our hard work and dedication are not adequately compensated. We put in long hours, go above and beyond our job descriptions, and yet, when it comes time to discuss salaries, we're met with excuses or paltry raises that barely keep pace with inflation. It's a cycle that perpetuates feelings of frustration, resentment, and even imposter syndrome.

But here's the thing: We don't have to accept being undervalued. We can speak up, advocate for ourselves, and demand fair compensation for our efforts. It might be uncomfortable, and it might require us to challenge the status quo, but it's essential for our well-being and the integrity of our professions.

Employers need to recognize the importance of fairly compensating their employees. It's not just about the bottom line; it's about fostering a culture of respect, appreciation, and mutual benefit. When employees feel valued and adequately compensated, they're more engaged, productive, and loyal.

So, if you're feeling highly underpaid, know that you're not alone. It's a widespread issue that deserves attention and action. Whether it's through salary negotiations, seeking out better opportunities, or advocating for change within our organizations, let's stand together and demand the compensation we deserve. Because when we value ourselves, others will too.

1. Most of the time it sucks because you're comparing and that'll always take your joy. In some cases, you're not underpaid but someone else is overpaid. 
 2. When you don't have a job, you'll appreciate being a bit underpaid too. 
 3. Not all people can take the risk of standing against the organizations. 
 4. Indian labour laws suck and that's why the culture of fair compensation is just a joke. 
 P.s.: Everyone should know their 'market' value and they should always aim for the highest of the range.

This represents the worst of the ecosystem
All of it happened during the peak bull market. Creating a blue collar marketplace made sense in the bull-bharat era. 

The rounds happened in a peculiar way too, most top investors didn't even get the chance to evaluate. It was all too quick. Tiger came in quick succession. 

Ultimately, we're now saying "The VC's were terrible negotiators & left him with 50% board seats so they cannot fire him". Well, of course. 

VCs created the hype. VCs face the brunt.

I am so frustrated by observing how some Indian startup founders have been mistreating employees. This is happening literally in all the startups and corporates.

Many of us invest their precious time and money obtaining degrees, only to become corporate employees.

India won the WC on Saturday night, and since then, I have seen numerous rant posts from people complaining that they missed this moment because they were overworked.

The rate of employee exploitation is alarmingly high, as founders often believe they have alot of options and are driven by their greed for money.

Look at the plight of startups, the top management says they do not have money so they lay off the whole departments without any prior notice. Yet they spend so lavishly on showing investors or on their socials how cool they all are.

We are bloody engineers, not their family bound slaves.
Why do we suffer ? 

I believe it is high time that we establish a union for employees working in the IT industry.
This exploitative culture needs to come to an end.

After finishing all the rounds of interviews, I reached out to get the feedback. The reply was "In order to make a decision, we need to interview some more candidates. So it may take some more time". 
Very well said and nothing wrong here. But let me tell you how I feel. 
1. Feeling objectified - I am an option for the company. They want to try more and then make a decision. 
2. They certainly think - okay we got this, but we deserve better. 

Do you think I would really want to join some organisation when they didn't believe in me? Just say you didn't meet our standards. I really don't want to join knowing they hired me because they couldn't find anyone better. Feels disgusting. Makes me feel I am the worst. When did suddenly  a respectable Software Engineering job became prostitution?

I am interviewing with an early stage startup in Gurgaon. As part of their leave policy, they offer only annual leaves which you earn at a certain rate every month. They do not offer any sick leaves or casual leaves to employees. Is that even legal? Have you heard of similar policies elsewhere?

Is FIRE the latest obsession because people have no other passion in life? Is it because they have aced school, college, High package(due to recent surge in salaries) and now don't know what is the next mission in life?

One argument is that they want freedom to do great things, but as I see the drive to do great things comes when people are put in constraints and difficulties. Not when they have freedom..

Why is everybody chasing FIRE?

Everyone wants Fire because they understand all that hustling and work for your passions is bullcrap and chilling and enjoying life is a much better alternative.

I have for the past couple of months gone through really pathetic and exploitative behaviour of the Indian companies (especially startups).

This is really pathetic. Lack of empathy just shows how immature and under-developed you are. If you ask someone to invest their time, you have the responsibility of timely and proper communication.

I work at a startup which has 100M revenue with small engineering team based in US Canada and some in India. I am earning good here given my YoE. 
Then comes this big tech working on monoliths and old design patterns with such high salary that I can't imagine at my age and YoE. 
I think that's how Google/Amazon poached all hard working and hungry engineers and made them a dumb Devs. I think that's how they killed creativity. Nevertheless, OpenAI did come out but that is just 1 company. There should have been more.

Big Tech poaching me with high salary

I am a Software Engineer with 6 years of work experience. Currently working for a US based startup. Previously I have worked for Amazon and a couple of Indian startups.

My current org is remote and I am working from my hometown. It's super chill in this company and work is only to build CRUD and APIs. I feel too stagnant here, my manager is also super chill and is in retirement mode. I feel this will message my future.

I joined this company so I can work on my start up but haven't been very active there too.

Recently a Google recruiter contacted me for a L4 role and had the recruiter screen and he scheduled the interview for the next month.
Google base monthly salary for L4 is way below my current since it's a US based startup. But with RSUs Google annual CTC his higher.

I am confused whether to continue in my org and focus back on startup or start preparing for Google interview. In the long term I want to start my company. At the same time Google will offer an AI ecosystem and resources that will help my startup.

Please share your views.

I'm thrilled to share our latest developments in our startup:
 We launched our prototype and it's gaining momentum! Our previous product, currently in stealth mode, has remarkable insights. 
However, the GPU usage costs have skyrocketed.

 Our new goal? To build an AI platform that serves as a cost-effective hub for training AI models. No one's tackling this issue, so we are the first ones to solve this issue. We already have some ties with the microchip manufacturer.

 Here's the thing: While we've been self-funded until now, we're now exploring seed funding. But there's a catch – we're cautious about accelerators and VCs. I have seen them undervalue my mate's company and prioritize quick revenue over steady growth.

So how should we go about it ?

I'll drop an example post for much clearer problem statement.

Exploring Seed Funding Options for Our AI Innovation

I worked in an Indian startup closely with CXO for last few years. 

They are pathetic in any way possible. Tech is limited to crud, that too doesn't work. The pay amongst their inner circle is in no way justifiable. For reference, I know people getting US pay remotely and that too doesn't come close to some of them.

They hired a guy from a service based company with completely different tech stack and no product experience for 60lpa+ (I know this number because he drunk boasted about this once) as VP just because he was acquaintance. Now, this guy lacked basic human decency and tech skills. He didn't know things as basic as how to use git cli or how to talk to people. Every non-tech person that ever had to work with him called it quit. Even 4-5 year old employees (juniors being exploited mostly) that were there from inspection. He would ruthlessly "harass" them for his own shortcomings.

The head of sales gets paid more than what their profit after margin is.

They just keep on raising based on their IIT/IIM creds and connections and there's no business or problem that they are solving. Even the contracts they seem to winning is rather by pulling the strings, because the product or tech doesn't solve or do anything. Yet they're able to raise more again and again.

It kinda kills me and fills me with so much rage that there are so many of them similar ones out there. I could go on and on about all the things that I had to see working here for years.

My pathetic experience working for years closely with CXO in a startup

For context: Weekends are off. So just fri WFH. This is a Series B startup. I am not even asking for a leave but WFH for just 1 day. I joined recently. The only thing I did wrong was possibly informing a little too late.

Want to get opinion if I am overthinking or this classifies as toxic culture in startups where you are expected to push limits above and beyond regularly and sometimes weekends.

Not a great culture, also you don’t have to give the actual reason, instead say due to some unavoidable work or family health reason you will need to wfh. Its a good way of seeing what kind of employer one is, when they also treat urgencies like that. Indians feel they need to give a detailed explanation as to why they deserve wfh or leave, whereas in international companies, you just have to inform the manager.
