My Learnings as a Software Engineer 1 year into corporate

- 🗣 Before anything else, communication skills are the most important. Helps with building your brand in your org. Even code is a part of the ways you communicate. - 🌟 If possible and if available, pick up role models in your office whom you feel are really good at dealing with people and learn from them - 📖 Basics are a MUST. I regret not taking Networks, OS, Databases seriously in college. They are Hella interesting. I'm learning about them out of interest but struggle to manage time. Dsa is not the only thing about software engineering. - 👨‍💻 Take up tough challenges. Trust me people have achieved so much recognition and growth in just 1-2 years by taking up the most difficult tasks at hand Finally a great line by our MD - "Everyone at the office are your friends. While some are best friends"

As a well wisher advice to all software engineers

Don't focus only on the compensation part only. Learning is very important. If you don't know how to have a mentor... Today you are getting paid for how well you code but now AI can code the best way.. Do in future it's not about how well you code it's about how well you solve use cases with balancing the business need.. This skill can't be learned by any course out there. It's you who has to put in effort.. So invest your money & time on these aspects. Need any guidance talk to mentors outside of your companies/ colleagues

Beyond DSA And Dev

There is a lot of content around entry level ( leetcode, DSA, cp, projects to shine your resume yada yada) to score a high salary tech job as a fresher. But my question to seasoned folks in the industry, what does it actually take to become a really solid engineer to sustain yourself in the industry and lead teams 5-7 years down the line rather than doing all this resume padding stuff?

Completed 20 years in software industry

Worked in IT sector, product sector and now with FAANG. Total NW: 6 Crore+. A few takeaways: 1. To make money, take risks. 2. To stay happy, invest immensely in your family. 3. Money can't buy happiness, but it does buy Status and Respect in Indian society. 4. Health is still the most important thing, never neglect it. 5. Casual flirting can keep you young and motivated to look young.
