Yesterday was kinda my low point and made me thought about turning it around for something better and since I've got such a huge crowd I'll take whatever I can. As they say two heads are better than one. So I'm gon be starting out with changing company. This gonna be a big jump but I'll divide it out in smaller steps. My very first venture into the open sea... I hope to catch good wind.

Please help me put defining these steps and maybe it will turn out to be beneficial to multiple people as well.

I'm working from Home from past 8 years out of my 14 YOE. 
we don't have an ODC or seats allocated thus no option to goto office. 
During the initial days, I felt blessed about this WFH and lately it impacts my work life balance. 
I binge eating and binge watch tv shows when there's no priority work.

I feel I don't have any motivation to learn anything and also feel disconnected whenever I meet another techie. 

How do you all cope with WFH?

I am 27, and I have a well paying job in Bangalore. 

I want to quit this job and try my hands on entrepreneurship. I feel like I can do much more than what I am currently doing and have a more fulfilling life this way. 

Unable to see a lot of risks I have a 2 yr runway with savings. Parents don't have financial dependency. If everything fails I can restart my life in the next 1-2 years. 

Looking for perspectives and things I should consider before taking this step.

So.. Around 2 years back I got my first payout of 50k as a referral bonus for a friend I referred to my company. 

Around same time.. My team had a few positions.. So i put it on linkedin and got a decent response.. Got another referral.. 

Next year.. I decided to scale it.. I started putting multiple posts on linkedin for positions across my company and started streaming the responses on google sheet. Having a big linkedin network of 20k helped. 

This year I scaled it to 4L a year... But then it all stopped after one fine day there was a HR circular to not undertake commercial level sourcing of profiles on linkedin.. And only refer ppl I know. 

It's a different matter that I could manage to source almost 20-40x more relevant profiles as compared to my HRs even with their third party agencies. More than half of my team members are my referrals :). 


While scaling this hustle.. This is what I learnt. 

1) You will get lots of spam.. I feel sry for some candidates .. But sometime even civil grads will apply for semiconductor jobs. 

2) Better to invite applications using a google form with proper filters.. Only serious ppl will apply. 

3) Do not refer everyone.. Reduce your effort and only refer candidates who have a chance. 

4) Engage with candidates, followup after interviews. 

5) Do not trust your employer will automatically honor referral payouts if you don't track.. I literally lost more than 2L coz of inefficient referral tracking system. 

6) Control your greed.. Even if you scale up.. Limit yourself to a decent no.. Say 2L a year.. Referral policy is for company's benifit.. They will shut you down one way or another if they find you are gaining. 

7) Handling it at scale is a lot of work.

I have been working for around 13 years now. I started my investment journey around 11 years ago. Over 11 years have seen 3 market corrections. 1 major and 2 minor. Seen demonetisation, GST, covid, Russia war, middle east war.

Inspite of all this was able to create a 8 digit portfolio. Hit my first 1 Cr 2 years back.

I have been able to consistently able to hit 35% CAGR in my investments from past 11 years which includes equity, mutual funds, ppf, FD, etc.

At my work everyone asks me for financial advice and I also have helped more than 100 of my colleagues in starting their financial journey. People are quite happy with my advice.

But now I want to get your advice on how I can productize my advice so that I am able to reach people at mass who could benefit and also start their investment journey.

Happy to get your suggestions and advice. Please note I don't want to start a financial advisory firm as then I can only reach or cater to max maybe 200 people.

My thought is to reach 3-5 lakhs individuals.

Im working as a developer in a unicorn startup with good salary for my age. But from college time I was interested in entrepreneurship trying different thing and later after completing college I joined this unicorn and worked hard, shifted to their new stealth startup and worked there with for 1yr, tried to work in every possible opportunity that I got with design team, product managers and learnt how to build a startup from scratch, but later due to creative issues in top level management and less revenue than the competitors the startup was shutdown and I was moved back to the unicorn and again started working as an developer. Tried different things from then 

1. Tried joining top B schools but couldn’t afford
2. Tired pitching ideas to friends, seems like no one interested in taking risk leaving the life they have now
3. Tried starting few things on my own but always end up failing with no support 
4. Tried attending conferences but that too never led me anywhere

Now don’t have as many friends interested in entrepreneurship or mentors to guide me. Just passing the days doing the same work again and again

please suggest me what to do next or give me any kind of advice

This was the job I so badly wanted. It's WFH. The actual work hasn't begun. Training phase is going on. It's not even training. They've sent me some material to read and learn. That's it. I don't know any of my colleagues well. I just hear their voices on teams meet. I feel like quitting already.

Is it normal to feel like quitting your new job within a month?

1. Build a home earlier. Be it rural home or urban home. Building a house at 50 is not an achievement. Don't get used to government houses. This comfort is so dangerous. Let all your family have good time in your house.
 
2. Go home. Don't stick at work all the year.  You are not the pillar of your department.  If you drop dead today, you will be replaced immediately and operations will continue.  Make your family a priority.

3. Don't chase promotions.  Master your skills and be excellent at what you do. If they want to promote you, that's fine if they don't,  stay positive to your personal.

4. Avoid office or work gossip. Avoid things that tarnish your name or reputation. Don't join the bandwagon that backbites  your bosses and colleagues. Stay away from negative gatherings that have only people as their agenda.

5. Don't ever compete with your bosses.  You will burn your fingers.  Don't compete with your colleagues, you will fry your brain.

6. Ensure you have a side business.  Your salary will not sustain your needs in the long run.

7. Save some money. Let it be deducted automatically from your payslip. 

8. Borrow a loan to invest in a business or to change a situation not to buy luxury. Buy luxury from your profit.

9. Keep your life,marriage and family private. Let them stay away from your work. This is very important.  

10. Be loyal to yourself  and believe in your work. Hanging around your boss will alienate you from your colleagues and  your boss may finally dump you when he leaves. 

11. Retire early.  The best way to plan for your exit was when you received the employment letter. The other best time is today.  By 40 to 50 be out. 

12. Join work welfare and be an active member always. It will help you a lot when  any eventuality occurs.

13.Take leave days utilize them by developing yr future home or projects..usually what you do during yr leave days is a reflection of how you'll live after retirement.

Been in Bangalore for 6+ years and love everything the city has given me. 
This city ( more like people here) taught me what software engineering and product sense is, how to entrepreneurs function, whats a 100X coder like. 
Made many memories, weekend trips to nearby places were so nice. Dated, moved in and then married my girlfriend, adopted a dog. So Bangalore has given me a lot. 
But in hindsight it takes a way a lot also - 
1. Everybody is in constant work mode, even in parties its just about who is doing what
2. Everybody is in loot mode here - i have seen locals pay less for veggies/fruits in front of me, then the veggies apparently have lead in them
3. Rents/builders/brokers/roads - we all know whats up with them 

Though it was nice initially, now i feel like even after earning so much ( ctc > 1cr) if i just spend it all here ( monthly expenses ~2lacs same is with all my married friends), what is the point even.

Hence making a move to slow life now, where you get a house with garden for 25k and fresh veggies and you can actually develop some relationship with community. 

This urge to always outperform in career is not really needed, we all eventually work towards savings and hence if i earn less but spend even lesser, its more or less the same thing for me.

But i dont want to live in a matchbox, travel 1 hour to meet a friend, eat a roti for 150bucks and be in constant anxiety about climbing the ladder. 

All i want is to focus on health, and sit in a garden in some sunshine with my wife and my dog and enjoy a cup of tea. 

So yes, I AM DONE. Moving to a tier 2 ( more like tier 2.5 town )
