Advice on how to grow as a Software Engineer.

Hi devs, I’ve recently joined Accenture as an ASE (this is my 1st job) with a package of 4.6LPA. While I was searching for rents , I felt very demotivated as getting rents in Bangalore is so costly as well as the commute. It made me feel like I came here for a very minimal salary job and it’s making me worried about myself , as if will I be able to survive here well enough without having any trouble financially. Apparently this is also making me want to work hard to grow my salary as quickly as possible and land a perfect job(if that exists). Possibly a permanent WFH job while I go back to my hometown. I want to know from all the seniors in our dev community as in how should I excel up in my career as quickly as possible. How I should manage my time and expenses and how should I get landed onto a dream job. Current tech stack - MERN ( highly proficient ) , Web sockets , AWS

Few questions you said you are highly proficient in MERN stack? How many years of experience for you have? Websockets: can you tell more about this, at what scale did you use them, did you deploy any websocket application yourself to AWS, did you handle the scale, auto scaling websockets in production is not so simple.

I’ve been working in MERN stack for about a year now. Made some personal projects and worked as an intern at a service based startup. Made projects like an LMS website with admin/teacher dashboard , ecommerce and stuff. I’m not that proficient in AWS but do know how cloud works, using EC2 instances , S3 and RDS. I’ve hosted one of my personal projects on AWS before using Nginx and PM2. Not that handy with these, probably beginner level. Web sockets I’ve just had experience on using them for sending notifications and messages for a group chat application as well as implementing it for the ERP portal of the previous company I interned with. I just want to excel keeping these skills as my main domain and slowly spreading my tech skill stack more.

Websockets has specific use cases, sometimes ppl tend to use it where its not needed. So I would say keep that as an extra option. Also I generally don’t say I am highly proficient after working in a language for at least two years. You mentioned you are highly proficient on a stack which is made up of 4 different technologies, have interviewed candidates who say 9/10 scale proficient and when asked a little difficult questions fall flat. Always advertise less and show more. MERN is a good starting point for beginners, work your way up from there, decide and pick either Frontend or BE if you truly want to grow. And build your skills and expertise in that, if you pick FE just enough knowledge of build tools and deploying a FE app to cloud will suffice. For BE you need to learn a bit of devops as well, will add value to your overall skillset

Need guidance on switching

I did my graduation in Mechanical Engineering from Delhi Technological University. Worked my ass off during covid lockdown to grab a Software developer job. Number of hours spent on DSA and development for straight 3 years. I was able to grab a decent package being from mechanical background. Currently i am working in Accenture as a software developer -> Java full stack developer + Angular (12LPA ctc, 9 Base) I want to work in a product based company which has better opportunities for me because i feel there is very limited opportunities in accenture and somehow people do not encourage to go for them at all. I need guidance on which companies should i be looking for great opportunities, great tech stack, with good management. Salary is never a obstacle for me. I am just looking for growth at this point of time in my career. Currently i am back to DSA again for interview preps. Referrals are also well appreciated.

Future as frontend developer

As you can guess, i joined as a front end developer in a startup last month. I have got no degree whatsoever. I am great at coding. I have done 700 leetcode questions (in JS😅). I intend to have a package of 20LPA next year. Maybe less. What should i do to maximize my pay scale while having little time for myself. I don't want to go insane in pursuing it. I feel I am under paid. What should I do?

I have total 9 YOE and Accenture is my second company. I have spent more than 6.5 years in Accenture and currently at level 9. My total package is 16.5 (15 fixed+ 1.5 variable) . I work in Accenture Operations. I believe my package is low. Moreover Accenture India employees didn't get any increment in base salary this year. I have to buy house, car and manage my household expenses for nearly 11 members. What should I do?

Confused in life ...

Hello people, I graduated last year and joined a fast-paced startup back in july as an SDE (2023 grad). So many things have changed so far within the company. Company has closed good series B funding. The top level management has changed, my manager and colleagues resigned due to the kind of work and cultural shift and lots of work but I stood there and delivered projects (was making them from scratch). Whatever was thrown on me during this time, I took that as an opportunity and delivered that. I literally worked on 4-5 tech stacks and built complex projects from scratch with 3 members team only. Now it seems like their ask is never ending and they again want me to put in another techstack since the existing products we built are working fine and we are just maintaining it now. The culture of the company is still very good despite having lots of work though the pay is above average. I am seeing my friends around me joining another company and getting much better hikes. I also want to make a switch but deep down in my heart I have these questions coming up: 1. Should I switch before completing 2 years since it's my first job and I have spent only 1 year so far here. I really don't want to make this habit of switching again and again. 2. The kind of bonding I have made with my colleagues so far. Will I be able to get the same environment in the new company? 3. Should I join the startup again or should I target MNCs now. Because I have been building multiple complex projects for the past 1.7 years (this is my 3rd startup) from scratch and this is also getting normalized for me. Is it time to work on a scale? 4. Feel less valued sometimes. Despite delivering lots of efforts, it seems like I am not getting valued much because it's kinda hardware company and things go around that only. 5. Although, I am working on complex projects here but sometimes I feel missing out if I hear what others are doing. Should I go to a pure software based company? 6. I am not making much here to be honest despite having much better coding skills (10 base + 2.5 PB + 2.5 VP) but I am able to manage my money well despite living in Bangalore. Should I be hungry for more? I would be happy to read your opinion on these guys.
