Are there any startups where WLB exists or it's just all about money and doesn't matter even if the employee is no more?

With my small experiences in the past, I haven't seen a good Startup with WLB for SDEs (0-3)yoe. I want to know whether you work in a startup where there's WLB. I understand that more work means more learning but I do not agree with this every time. There are way more SDEs working in very very small startups who have humongous learning with a pinch of money they are being paid. For me WLB means enough time to relax and spend time with my loved ones and also less mental stress. I have observed that the Leads/Managers will give any features no matter how complex they are, need to be built with 0 to no help specially for SDE-1 people. And later they are blamed and scolded or they're put in PIP and ultimately thrown out. What is your experience?

What’s work life balance anyways? It’s the question that you need to define for yourself. I often see people asking the WLB and doesn’t seem to understand the definition or concept that is conducive for them. I do understand or assume the good intent you have and it’s important to ask questions. I would assume if you haven’t done already try time tracking for a month how you spend your time across your days. You will clearly notice time that can be spent effectively vs efficiently. Then negotiate with yourself to invest time that is important to you and work on that. It’s generally for startup’s to go in overdrive to get something visible for investors or to beat competition. This requires unrealistic efforts or time to get it going. If it doesn’t align with your values align it with your manager or take a call. I am not siding with your company’s or saying they are right. But only trying to get message across to define what you desire in minutes and hours, that will help you seek clarity.

In startups, yes, wlb would be fucked up. Who's stopping you from going to established orgs? Google is pretty good in wlb

Cleared the interviews of Paytm and Cimpress. 2 HRs reached out for salary expectations and were told to get back by the EOD with a joining letter, never heard back on 2 different occasions. Cleared the Cimpress interviews, they informed that the requirements have been changed so the hiring manager has kept this position on hold. It's my resume, work experience and past companies which are holding me back and also knowledge which I'm working on currently slowly

Work Life Balance

I see a lot of posts about WLB, I want to know what do you consider as a decent WLB. I will go first. 1. Leave early if the work for that day is done 2. No pings and calls post work hours, there are always exceptions and thats okay, should not become a norm 3. Respecting when someone is in vacation and not disturbing them. 4. Not rejecting leaves I will add more in comments If more comes to my mind.

Analytics' Pay in Banks

How's the pay for analysts in banks like Citi, HSBC, IDFC etc? My "assumption" is they have a better work life balance compared to start-ups (I work in one - CTC being 28lpa - almost 4 YOE). Why am I asking? Looking at how things are going on at BLR, I'm planning to someday switch to company with work from home and better work life balance.

Why are startup folks so entitled?

I'm seeing so many posts where startup employees are cribbing about things like layoffs, work culture etc etc. Doesn't seem like they have perspective on everything it takes to build a startup. I've built a failed startup myself and have immense respect for founders who are grinding it out there in such difficult recessionary circumstances. And then you have so many of the engineers and PMs cribbing about basics without talking about important things like learning growth, building for the future etc. Why such myopia? I work at a big tech and envy the speed at which startups move, the big responsibility everyone gets to handle, the fast career growth. All these things are being cribbed about. They crib about founders wanting more. Their job is to ensure success, not to give lifetime jobs to entitled people. They have more headaches you can imagine. In my small startup I had a million headaches. I can only imagine how hard it must be to run larger ships. Is everyone joining a startup these days looking for a get rich quick scheme?
