This is a very poor way to leave. They  didnt force him to join , he volunteered and joined. He didnt like it for various reasons, he should have left quietly.   He just  got his 15 minutes of fame and probably lost many  good opportunities.  If you  are a manager,  will you  hire him? I wont.

Pretty sure people working under you would want to do the same if they could. You're just another asshole who's getting offended because someone else being an asshole is called out openly. It's a threat to how you deal with people in workplace.

I love this so much. This guy is quitting corporate sector for good and starting something on his own. He is an inspiration to all of us. The way companies treat their employees is appalling everywhere. It is only in Europe that the labour laws are strong enough to get employees bare minimum respect. India ka toh pucho mat - non compete, 3-month notice, PIP bol kr layoff to avoid paying severance - there are multiple loopholes that companies exploit everyday. So good on him to quit in style.

Want to discuss if sabbatical being a taboo is valid and peoples opinions of it.
I will start with mine
Background - 
8 years in tech 
3 company switches 
Sabbatical of 1 month, 3 month and 6 month between each break.
Personal experience - quite enriching. Though there was panic and anxiety of not having a job during the period, it truly helped me take a step back, reassess my career trajectory, and mostly just Destress and re prioritise

Every now and then i loose my true love for tech and product and the sabbaticals helped me to rediscover that by just reading about technology that was not outcome driven ( like for switching a job) 
Quite rewarding each time in terms of salary jumps also. I think i was able to make a better case for myself at a particular position just because i had more time to process stuff from last job. 
It also helped me make better decisions for next thing which has in general helped me shape my career better ( i think atleast)

So, I have heard multiple people that 20s is about exploring. Explore different jobs, work style, people etc , you name it!
   I believe with that, you cannot think of earning as exploration into different roles results in being at the same level across roles.

I recently laid off, sometime ago. I was privileged enough so didn't really complained about it. But what i realised is:

"Everyone should get laid off once in a lifetime." Reason being you stop being emotional about your job. Some people have a habit to treat job as a the only purpose their life has. Basically job gives them the validation which they never received from anyone.  
Also you realize the hard truth that you are just a number. "Resource" as they aptly call you.

You realize your life has many dimensions than just serving someone.

When I was job hunting a few months back, I told the head hunter that a couple of companies she proposed was not something I believed in, in the nicest way possible. Maybe a dick move, idk. She told me it’ll be impossible for me to find a job in this market if this was my attitude. 

After that, a month later, she ghosted me when I asked her if she has any leads. I spoke to a few friends and they said it’s a good thing to want to truly believe in what the company does and few told me it didn’t matter. 

To me it does, because I have always worked in very early startups and I see my time also as an investment. And not to mention, early stage startups are tedious to work in. You lose your motivation if you don’t feel like you’re contributing to a great extent in multiple areas. 

What’s your take on it? Is it alright as long as you get the money in your account?

Remember I’d read this quote when I was just starting out with my work life. Had noted it down and just chanced upon it again.

I know it’s a bit extreme as a thought. As years go by, I’ve started believing in this much lesser. I would give anything for my first company to succeed. That’s the psyche a lot of us enter our first jobs with. Don’t remember but I think this is why I’d noted down the quote. 

One toxic manager and one startup that is crooked later, you get derailed. You think you need to value your work lesser in the context of the larger life.

But it doesn’t give me happiness. I think I’m too much of a Type A, to ever be in a place where I feel I’m not doing enough of what I want to do, with my career.

Life can be embraced through work. It just doesn’t need to stop within the confines of your job and company. I’ll try to be more like the fresher me.

Seen a couple of posts which tried to choose between a higher salary and an interesting job. 

I think finding meaning in your work goes further from the work becoming as interesting as a hobby. 

With a good pay and decent WLB you'll be able to make your life way more fulfilling. 

I've gotten into a couple of sports, gym often, socialise and travel around.

Eg: you're a graduate in mass media, now you're working in an advertising agency stuck managing social media of brands and listen to bs from your managers/seniors who pretend to be marketing geniuses on a daily basis. You know you're not learning anything concrete about the industry from them + this is not even your passion, but you're doing this job because of financial responsibilities. You can't follow your passion until you bring yourself in a position of making a choice. You keep overthinking about this everyday and hence you cannot perform at work. This demotivates you even more and suddenly it becomes a loop.

I have been talking to a few companies, across different size bands.
Only Indian startups seem to obsessed with full week WFO/Micromanagement.

A few years back, startups were known for being more flexible, now it just seems to be the reverse.

Why are Indian startups so obsessed with Micromanagement? i.e. WFO

Switch the job to get a better salary
Wait for a better increment or switch again, reason? Money, Money, Money (most of the time).... 
Society pressure is so high that no matter how much you earn, it will not be enough at some point.. You always try to fit into the surroundings..

Why the hell Money is so important, can't we go back to Jungle Life 😁?? Eat fruits, fresh meat , breathe fresh air, wear less clothes, don't shave...

I have all the respect for those who start their own business. But frankly that kinda advice is just so tone deaf and lazy when you are job hunting.

For starters business is not meant for everyone, you need to have an aptitude for it. More than that you need to have an ecosystem in place. Business means having to bear losses, running after clients for pending payments, dealing with crazy tax laws and regulations. Unless you are equipped to handle all this, you cant survive. There is a reason certain communities in India dominate business.

And those who quote Steve Jobs, Bill Gates at the drop of a hat, don't know that these guys had a good support system in place that pushed them. 

But basically I hate the way people aspiring for a regular salaried job or those having one are looked down upon. This was especially so during the startup boom. Why don't people get it that many just want a regular salaried job? And those businessmen, entrepreneurs, startup founders still need the regular salaried folks, corporate drones to run their companies.

Most just want a regular job, work for a fixed amount of time, go home and relax. Lack of ambition?  Yes.  Is that a bad thing? No not really.

I am thinking of leaving my current job and focus on myself, getting to know myself better etc. Currently I have enough money saved for my expenses for next 6-8 months. 
   Everyone I have asked about this say don't leave your job if you don't have another lined up, in this tech winter. I understand their view point. It aligns with what my parents think as well.

Is there anyone who has had done this in the past? Do you recommend this route? Are the consequences far too severe? Does anyone have a different opinion from one stated above?
