Started in 2016 at 35K.
In 2017, got hike, reached 47K
In 2018, switched company, reached 55K
In 2019, switched company, reached 80K
In 2020, no hike
In 2021, switched company, reached 120K
In 2022, got hike, reached 210K
Switch I made in 2018 almost screwed up my entire career. Worst company and culture. A lot were held on variable pay.
But you are brave,most of the people don't take the leap because they fear bad culture. But in hindsight you would appreciate what you have now (if things are better) and the 35K to 210K happened.good luck 🤞

2016: left job for few personal goals
2018: came back to job market; new company; 7.5L
2019: 7.5L
2020: 15L; Double Promotion
2021: 30L; Double Promotion
2022: 45L
2023: 60L; shifted to a new company
As I look back,
1. There is a lot of luck - need to be in right place at right time and most importantly with right people.
2. All throughout I had to keep proving that I'm my own pedigree. I don't have an IIT/IIM or MBA advantage and this required me to hustle :)
Hard core hustle in sales and marketing for years.

Appraisal in Nov 2018, startup1: 75K+2L bonus twice a year (didn't took the nov 2019 bonus and switched in October)
Switch in Sept 2019 to startup2: 1.08L
No appraisal in Nov20 at startup2
Appraisal in May21 at startup2: 1.76L
Appraisal in May22 at startup2: 2.37L
Appraisal in May23 at startup2: 3.04L
Technically took 1 switch, the first one was a goofup by HR where a content role was sold as tech role.
Rabb ki mehr hai bhai! The more you get the more you are scared in the startup world. Responsibilities do not change much.

Big Buck Girl here. Started my career in HR 2 years and 10 months ago.
Stuck with the same company for about 2 years and 5 months for 8L package. Made a switch 6 months ago to reach 12.5 LPA.
Now at a new org with 16 LPA. The work culture is intense and hectic I only took it up to climb the corporate ladder quicker.
But now because of the company culture I want to leave the corporate world entirely. Money seriously cannot buy happiness. Lifestyle inflation and responsibilities eat away at your CTC in no time. If you love what you do then that’s a whole other thing.
Agree. In college I felt like Ambani with 2k/month
Now even 1L/month feels like mediocre.

2.5 LPM, 2 YoE. Started by freelancing in lowcode tools, now have a full time remote job and do tech consulting part time and all sorts of random integrations, automations, etc.
Started in July, 2017 - 96k.
Dec 2018, switched as I didn't get good hike - 120k
2019, Promo - 180k
2020, No hike due to covid - 180k
2021, hike for 2 years - 260k
2022, promo - 370k
2023 - waiting for hike numbers.
Started working in 2018 post tier 1 BBA; Series B startup - 12LPA
Then went to work for a large tech company in a sales role - 20LPA (with stocks)
Then joined a VC fund (started at 45LPA, exited at 60LPA) - lol, I don’t know why I get paid so much (although my life is exhausting)

Graduated in 2012 from a Tier 1 college. Got 55k pm. Was in the same company for 5 yrs as the culture was good and got London onsite opportunity as well. Quit at 1.2L per month in 2017 to join a start up as a founding pm, with a pay cut (1L per month). Didnt work out and start up shut shop in 2019. But it gave me a good pm experience in a niche domain.
Used that to land a Series A pm role in similar domain for 100% hike in 2020,so was making around 2.3 pm till 2022.
Made a move to a senior PM role in the same niche domain but a global established giant at 70% hike. Getting around 3.6 per month right now
2020 - 5k Internship - Music Management
2020 - 25k Full Time - Music Management
2021 - College
2022 - 7 LPA - Software Engineer
2023 - >30 LPA - CEO
In the meantime, before my 7 LPA job, I was offered 2.6 LPA for the same position 😂
Started my career in 2010 from campus placement.
2010 - 12LPA, Joined as QA, wasn't aware of what it was, but money was good.
2011 - 14L, Decided to move out of QA to core development, started upskilling, automated all tests and lot of mundane tasks.
2012 - 15L Convinced my manager to switch to Development team
2016 - 30L Promoted to Lead.
2018 - 60L Promoted to EM full stack, managing a team of 15 devs.
2019 - Took a career break for 5months
2019 - 75L - Changed company and domain. Worked as a UI architect at a startup.
2020 - 90L Changed company and Domain. Joined as a IC, started working on DataEngg.
2023 - 1.2Cr Promoted to VP level.
Tips:
* Don't change your job every other year in chasing money. Work for at least 2-2.5yr to gain good understanding of tech/industry.
* Don't be afraid to change domain. It's hard, takes a lot of effort and commitment. Self learning. But it's worth it.
* You need not moving out of company if company is good but you are struck with a legacy/maintenance project. Prove your worth and move internally to other teams if possible.
* Don't always chase money and burn out yourself. Money is not everything, aim for a good work life balance.

Started in the 2008 recession at 16K (lucky to have a job)
Toxic work culture made me switch
2009 joined another and was laid off next year.
2023 salary is 10X through a series of jumps in last 8 years (previous 7 years was a learning that loyalty is not paid well in corporate India 😉)

I didn’t switch for 2 years and fucked up my pay(0% hike in 2 years). Reading this thread I feel like I fucked up big time.
In the long run it looks good on the CV,if you stayed with the company for 2 years

Started in 2017 at 16 LPA.
In 2018, got a hike, 19.2 LPA.
In 2019, got a hike, 28 LPA.
In 2020, switched company, 34 LPA.
Got a hike the same year, 37 LPA.
In 2021, left job and started work as an independent consultant, 56 LPA.
In 2022, 65 LPA.
Currently, ~80 LPA.
The month to month pay varies a lot but I make more than I ever did at a job and choose my own hours. I also do not have to be involved in any office politics and the taxation is a lot better. Looking back at my journey, I would just say that I am very grateful. Sure, there was skill but there was a lot of luck also, being at the right place at the right time.
Software development only, just that it's on better terms and I am self employed. I work with clients (all abroad) remotely from India.

2014 - 4.5L Campus placement with a promise of 1.5L bonus after I complete 1.5 years
2015 - 6L Joined a media startup. Learnt a lot as it was only 5-6 tech people. Later increased the pay to 7.5L
2016 - 13L Same company as I tried to leave but they decided to match the offer.
2017 - 17L A customer service platform, now I transitioned to full FE dev
2018 - 20L Switched to come to BLR
2019 - 25L in appraisal
2020 - 32L in appraisal with position bump
2021 - 51.5L Switched
2021 end - 75L switched due to working hours at previous company (plus ~36L in stocks per year)
So started at 4.5L per year and now I am getting 4.5L per month after ~ 9 years.
