I want to use Ubuntu as OS. I have tried lenovo earlier but it's not worth, had very bad experience with Lenovo laptops. So now which laptop I can purchase in budget ? If you guys have any idea please suggest.

Other Devs move to windows + wsl because of gaming, and everything else.


Remaining college students use Linux.

Linux is for newbies who are generally poor

Need opinions on refurbished laptops on Amazon.

I need one as a personal device, I would install some lightweight linux distro on it.

The info I need is:
- Appropriate CPU clock speed and cores required.
- cost.
- common problems with refurbished devices/vendors.

Prefered specs:
- 16GB RAM
- SSD boot drive with additional capacity for another disk (maybe HDD).

Indian SDEs on LinkedIn & Twitter are some of the worst engineers you will ever find across the real world. Their typical value lies around:

- Cracking a FAANG/MAANG or Product company.
- Make an announcement on LinkedIn & Twitter and accumulating followers.
- Starting YouTube channel, Topmate links, affiliate marketing channels, and more.
- Rant DSA, System Design, Interview resources all day long. 
- Post daily of their office, their colleagues, candid shots, and barely getting any work done.

While this is expected out of early career professionals, it pains to see senior SDEs doing the same shit over and over again. Things don't end here — Everyone talks about creating a revolution. And the revolution is teaching DSA. 

If you are an experienced SDE and still ranting DSA, it just means that you have barely learnt anything that is of worth any value. You are atmost a "Ticket Engineer". You get assigned a Jira ticket, you bust your ass solving it, and that's it. That's your entire value. 

Its high time that these "Bhaiya", "Didis", "Bhabhis" stop ranting DSA and System Design over and over, and build something of real value. You would barely see any credible open-source projects coming out of India (but hey, we have some many contributors!), barely any Indie dev project, or anything that captures the attention of the world. 

Literally every popular SDE you might follow or see over your social media is the same. Their entire community game is a farce and designed to capture gullible college students and shill thousands of rupees out of them. You might be featured on Times Square ($40 ka showoff), but no one would remember you for anything that you built.

I am looking to transition into a tech career, but don't have much experience in the in-demand tech stacks. I am active in open-source development on GitHub ( I've used python quite a bit before). I have a non-CS degree from one of the top colleges in India.

I understand that things are a bit bleak with the recession around the corner, but I'm happy to work on side projects. 

Could anyone help me out?

Hello folks 👋 

I want to buy a laptop for personal usage. I will be using it mostly for media consumption and web dev. 

I have had a very bad experience with windows laptops in terms of hardware and battery life after a year of usage.  

Should I buy a MacBook Air with 16gb ram / Macbook Pro or should I trust a non apple laptop and slap a Linux distro on it call it a day ? 

Please share your experience or the machine you guys are using.

Ps- I am using a 16 inch Mac with M1 pro and 16gb ram but I feel I am not using it to its full potential hence it might be a waste of money for a personal laptop

Good Laptop suggestion

So recently i have this temptation to use linux. But i have macbook so thinking to use vm for that. If you’re already using it this way, is it good enough for your day to day works?

I just right now read interview experiences of some folks on leet code, and damn man..
Saw people clearing 5 - 6 rounds having dsa system round, etc and getting dream package.

I am someone who is sort of completely very basic engineer. I have 3 yoe but till now it 8s just cloning repo from gitlab, doing task and then pushing it for approval. Nothing else I have worked upon, I want to become like them and get good package but just got scared sort of like how and where to learn all these things....

Anyone here who was like me and changed themselves....

I am a backend engineer with 7 years of experience. I've been rejected by multiple organizations during salary discussions. They mentioned they can't provide such a high salary. Are my expectations inaccurate?

If you write your own chat server with Whatsapp like functionalities (1:1 messages, group chat, communities, file upload, typing indicator,read receipts, reply, block user, remove from group, mark a message as important etc.) from scratch for both backend and frontend. Would you consider it as a proper SDE II level skill or above? I’m not expecting it to handle Whatsapp scale but it should be able to handle a few lakh users

What to install

I am an engineer, what I enjoy is solving technically challenging problems. I don't really want to spend my time bothering with non-code solutions to your business problem, and I don't care how much money my code makes you. Just have a tech lead give me a challenging tech problem to solve or build for(WITH the necessary requirements) and I'll get it done. Simple. 


Personally I'm saddened to see how chasing impact has taken over all good tech companies, and how you basically HAVE to create value and take ownership in other ways if you want to be SDE-3 or higher. I would rather be a more technically competent, deliverer SDE (think someone who's extremely good at being an SDE-1). Climbing the SDE ladder is boring.
