But bro rich people don't face discrimination

Such a blot on GIFT city and Gujarat. More proof that we have a long way to go.

To those who think reservations are meant only for the poor, do you have anything to say now?

Gujaratis may prefer cohabitating with Gujaratis, but that is not 'caste' discrimination. Seems to me the dude is trying to hype up.

SillyJellybean
SillyJellybean

Do you seriously think he'd risk so much over a "misunderstanding"?

Even if it is how you state it, that's still discrimination. There's no moral or legal justification for this, "preferences" doesn't really cut it.

@Gupchup clearly have not read the article in question. ""The situation escalated quickly with nearly 30 people gathering, threatening me with dire consequences if I proceeded," Anirudh Kejriwal wrote." that is not preference, that is breaking the law by not allowing a person to stay in a house he owns.

There is nothing wrong in someone wanting to protect their existing culture. There is beauty in preserving an inherent culture, by opening it to everyone it would go away. This guy is using caste card to embarrass them. We all know what happens when we let migrants in to your home too much. It's the same everywhere, first they go and take the local set up for granted. Don't learn their language, don't try to be part of it. Won't even care when the local culture disappears, the moment a local objects to it, they go to Twitter and start this randi rona.

No one does caste discrimination anymore. But caste or otherwise, food language and behavior defines boundaries, irrespective of caste those should be respected

SillyJellybean
SillyJellybean

So you would advocate for gujju only societies? How about cities and state, or country? Where do you draw the line when it comes to preserving "culture"?

Because by your logic no Muslims or any other religion should be living in Gujarat simply because it's a Gujarati majority state.

FloatingWaffle

If the society is formed by them, then it's up to them.

New societies get created right? Let them move there. And there are plenty where this concept of preservation doesnt exists. Let him scout that. Why keen on disrupting a well knit one.

Multiculturalism doesn't necessarily equate to have a mixed culture within your family. Besides Muslims enforce this even more strictly within their cohorts.

I can vouch for Anirudh personally. I have known him for years. Very nice and gentle person. He has mentored a lot of juniors at JPMorgan and helped in their careers.

I remember the dialogue from NH10 movie, where the police officer is asked about Caste discrimination by Anushka Sharma says, Jaise hi aap Connaught place se 20km duur aate ho, waha apke Constitution khatam ho jaata hai

@Rorschach When we suddenly try to globalise an area like GIFT from a far off suburb to a Global hub, it is a very stupid mistake. Places like Mumbai, SG have seen immigration, business, foreign money and the influx pour in over decades and have had time to develop a metro/global hub culture, mentality and temperament.

GIFT is forcing this to happen quickly and the first entrants are going to face Tier 3 town mentality. Ideally, by law, society bylaws do not have legal power. It remains to be seen if authorities and law bring the housing society to book. If authorities are lazy here, GIFT experiment would fail over next 5yrs.

Also, Anirudh is himself a vegetarian. So this is a caste issue. It's akin to those Jain societies in Vikhroli denying vegetarian Marathi tenants.

What caste could this guy be ? Is the society a brahmin only one? I don't understand North Indian caste dynamics. it might be more region oriented than caste.

ZoomyMuffin
ZoomyMuffin

You say you don't know his caste, dont know abt the society, abt north Indian caste dynamics.

And yet you are disregarding his own story on caste discrimination and hypothesizing yourself?

Directly or Indirectly this feeling is everywhere in India in locals that migrants are destroying our culture, threatening our language, taking our jobs and livelihood. Why only to blame Gujrat. You can see the similar discrimination happening in Bangalore in another way where the system is also complicit.

SillyJellybean
SillyJellybean

True, I've also criticised Bangalore and Delhi in my posts and comments. Inclusive and affordable housing is still a distant dream in India for many people. It is only pushing inequality further.

Gujjus are scum scamsters who will sell their mothers for money and then act all virtuous when it comes to alcohol meat

Like someone said here for a different community all Gujaratis are not scamsters but all scamsters are Gujarati

Let’s stress test GV moderation

Not just GJ. Most states are still the same. Eg: TN, Orissa, to some extent Kerala.
community love comes from group of ppl who like to collaborate(irrespective of business domain-IT, real estate, MSME). Respecting all state’s have their own culture and traditions. Karnataka and Maharashtra (Mumbai) have broken up their caste shells and have come forward a way long in terms of cosmopolitan aspects.

BouncyNugget
BouncyNugget

Nobody every goes to Orissa. Rarely heard of anything like this in TN, probably usual non veg bachelor shit. Kerala no way , you're pulling shit out of your ass. Very few people move to Kerala except migrant workers anyway.

I am myself from Gandhinagar - non Gujarati staying there for years. Honestly Gujaratis are the sweetest - not sure if it is some one off case or some misunderstanding - but hard for me to believe

SillyJellybean

Most likely you're upper caste I'm guessing

The average working class Gujarati I've met in Ahmedabad has always been friendly. But i haven't had to deal with living in any society lime this.

No end to job reservations

I have been thinking about reservations in jobs and also in the exam cut offs.

Reservation was given to the Scheduled Castes and Tribes because they had no land ownership and they were also oppressed throughout history. To uplift them f...
