Just wanted to check if my compensation is as per industry standards. I have 2.5 years of exp as a ML Engineer (focused on deep learning and computer vision). Graduated from tier 3 college in 2020 but have pretty good skill sets for the domain.
Joined a Series C funded startup last year in July for BP of 14.5LPA along with JB of 1L and ESOPs worth ~7L.
Just got an appraisal of 10% now and now my base is ~16L.

I feel I should have got more appraisal considering my compensation is low for my experience and I should be having somewhere around 18-20L.
Am I thinking correct or is it me being greedy?

I need help understanding if 31 LPA fixed + (2.5 lpa variable extra) is a right as per standards both ways either underpaid or overpaid.

I am more comfortable in an MNC and wanted to get more insights before making a switch.

I have been working as an APM at a series C startup for the last 1 year. I did my MBA from a tier 1 college. Worked as a full stack developer for 2 years before that.

Am I underpaid? What would be a fair market compensation.

Should I try getting another PM job in a different company  or switch back to being a dev. ( Not liking PM that much, the dev role was a better experience.)

CTC check: 10LPA - APM - 1 YOE

I have total of 3.6 years of experience all as Data Engineer. 2.3 working at Sigmoid and 1.3 with Flipkart. I got promoted at both the organisation, means I am a high performing talent. I am getting 50L as a CTC from Flipkart, 21.5 is fixed, 2.15 is annual bonus and rest other are ESOP spreaded over 4 years. Flipkart is currently operating in hybrid model which means I had to shift to Bangalore this December.

In my new role at a startup which is acquired by Course Hero is offering 70l;
32l as fixed, 3.2l as annual bonus and rest other as RSUs spreaded over 4 years. It is work from anywhere.

Looking at the current market trend and my previous history, should I be little more greedy.

I am getting 70lac as CTC in my new role

TLDR;

Did B.Tech in ECE from a tier 3 college. In college, explored different avenues and finally found deep learning and computer vision to be the most interesting. Did lots of projects, research paper etc. However, being from a tier 3 college, making a career in this domain wasn’t easy. Graduated in 2020, joined a startup as an intern with a stipend of 35k per month. 6 months later, the internship didn’t convert, although I worked really hard and my manager liked my work.
Joined another startup with a salary of 6.5LPA. Although I had better offers, I decided to go with this one ad they were providing WFH (it was peak covid time). A few months into this startup, I realised the founder had no goal, no vision, was given random  vague projects, founders would pick up any project that their client would somehow talk about, assign it to me without doing any market research, and few months later scratch that. I realised, there was no future here, and for no reason, one of the founder kept micromanaging me (although the colleagues and seniors were great). And by that time, I also realised I was severely underpaid, as one of my close friend, who was a year junior to me was paid higher. I decided to leave that place, during a time of mass resignations in 2022 (the founders did try to retain me, but I was adamant as I didn’t see any vision and founder was too rigid to listen to anyone). I worked there for 1.3 years, at the same salary.

Later on in August 2022, I joined a series C funded startup, with a base pay of 14.5LPA, at nearly 2 YOE. While the hike was well above 120%, in some time I realised that this was the salary that they paid to IIT campus hires. Felt a little demotivated, Also, the culture here isn’t exactly good and sometimes gets quite toxic. However, I kept commited to my work, and come March 2023, I got a 10% appraisal, for which the VP personally had a conversation, I conveyed that I had higher expectations considering I joined at lower pay (1/n)

Hardwork and consistency pays off

The VP did agree to that, and my manager and VP had a few conversations around this topic from time to time. A week back, VP called me and congratulated me, saying that he decided to do a off cycle appraisal for me and gave me 26% appraisal, making my base pay 20LPA. I was on cloud 9. I didn’t arm twist my company, nor did I even ask for a higher pay, I was offered it right away. 
  
 Now many of you might say, dude whats the big deal. People with 2 YOE make 69LPA. Well, good for them. But I just wanted to write this post, To convey that don’t get disappointed when you see such CTC polls on grapevine. Everyone has their time. I’ve had many other failures, I keep trying to move to PM role(after working in startups, eventually gained interest), appeared for CAT(didn’t score that well), tried many things to come out of this tier 3 college status and make a career for myself. Just keep working hard, stay committed to your skills, good Karma, and success will surely follow you.

Hi guys,
I am currently working as an APM at an AI startup(B2B SAAS) working on genAI product. Have 2 YOE and base of 20 LPA.
Looking to switch due to growth barrier and work culture. 
Have given interviews with startups in similar domain for APM roles but getting ghosted after 3-4 rounds. I am looking for 20-30% hike.
Am i asking too much?
Any suggestions?

I currently work as a Backend Engineer at a mid-stage AI startup in Chennai.
I interned with them for close to a year before I was converted to a FTE.

Underpaid or Not

I’m ML Engineer with 3 YOE (20LPA Base) currently based in Bangalore, and interviewing for a startup in Mumbai for Senior MLE role. During my initial conversation with HR, I told that my expectation would be 25LPA (I think I lowballed myself) and HR told that the budget is at max 25, so if I would be willing to negotiate. Honestly, at that time my only motivation was to get out of my current organisation. Now I feel that I should have asked for more, and after 3 rounds of interview, and evaluating the living expenses in Mumbai compared to BLR, I feel I should have asked for more. I’m going on friday  to their office for final interview with leadership, and offer most likely would be made straight after that. How do I get the best compensation possible in this situation? 

P.S. In another grapevine post, someone mentioned that a PM working there is making 20LPA with 2YOE, and suggested I should be asking for more.

Hey y'all, 

I'm a T shaped Engineer with specialisation in MLOps/Devops at a hardware+software stealth start up.

Experienced in full stack, ML deployments, AWS, Kubernetes, Python, Kotlin and handling scale.

On paper YoE: 8+ 
3 years was with family business ( in tech), 
so if that is ignored 5+ YoE across the board in ML. 

The perks I get are work life balance and unlimited leaves and leaves compensation if any public holiday falls on a weekend.

Currently being paid 32lpa base, no variables.

I'm confused if this is good pay since I have a varied set of skills. The company has spoiled me by making me "time rich" so I don't feel like leaving. (Especially since I was burnt out when I desperately left and joined the current place) 

I know friends who do just backend getting paid 45 lpa but with no work life balance. And often times in discussions with them I feel like I can do their job easily (because of the varied skillset).

I'm Fortunate enough to be in a place that did salary corrections even though other companies are laying off and appraisals are incoming in Q1.

I'm confused, what's a good number that I deserve?

Am I paid correctly or do i deserve more - 6.8 LPA ? I work at twin Startup(profitable ) as a developer primarily focused on Angular Development with total of 1.6 + 4 months here , I am fairly proficient at my work with minimal to no supervision , with good monthly reviews .

I recently got an offer for a founding engineer role at a very early stage startup. The product is not out yet and the role is meant to be building the initial product to be sold to customers who have showed interest in it. The startup is in the payment ops space.

The comp offered is 15lpa and equity of 10lac or 0.5% whichever is higher. I have 3.5yrs of experience and left my job in October last year. I had an exponential growth in my package while moving companies and made 45lpa + ESOPS in my last job, starting with 4.5lpa as a fresher.

I know that I might not be able to get the same comp now given the scenarios in the software and tech industry. 

I wanted to know how to best analyse a comp package for a founding engineer role, particularly at this point in time?
