Even after so many layoffs, low salary of engineers , the craze of engineering is not going down. Every year 10lack students are writing jee , even if half of them will do engineering somehow then where will they get jobs ? For lower class (economically), engineering, medicine, and prestigious government jobs are a way to break the chains of poverty.
For middle class (economically), these options are a way to elevate their socio-economic standards.

JEE is not same as other engineering. a Entry in any of the second class IIT can set you up for generational wealth. IIT degree offers edge in your MBA selection. a sabbatical or a career break will not matter, failed entrepreneurship will be seen as a great experience. compared to last 10 years there is big drop in the number of engineering graduates in our country. Tamilnadu isa example. There are multiple engineering colleges that are closing or available for sale every year. Last time i checked many college are not able to fill their seats.
