Do designers with a master’s degree in design get preference over a person just with a just a b.des degree?
Im at a very weird place where im confused where a master’s degree would actually help me in my career or no since it will take up a lot of time and money. How imp is master’s degree in design / m.des equivalent in your career progression in India, startups/mncs?
Design colleges are usually expensive and follow a very non repetitive course structure, I have an bdes degree from one to the top 3 schools from India and I highly recommend not doing a bachelors degree. I suggest going for an mdes instead because the investment is lower and time commitment is also less. And in case you feel like dropping out nothing to lose.
But mind you majority or maybe all design schools are not training designers for relevance or skill. Only NID and IIT focuses on hard skill development but that’s again not needed when you’re out looking for a job.

I have a bdes degree from a well reputable college in the industry and have relevant experience in top startups. Just confused whether it is worth doing mdes . I have 2 yoe and if I spent 2 years studying, I might be back to square one during placements. Not sure what to do

Yes recruiters and HM for some reason get a hard on if a candidate has studied from NID or IIT even if the candidate is actually bad at design. Look at Microsoft, all the designers have degrees from NID or IIT

If you have B.Des from Tier 1 college in India, try going abroad for Masters.
If not, you can get M.Des from a top tier college as it will help in your career. Don't bother doing it from any college other than NID or IIT. I've taught/been a juror at some masters programs in India at private colleges, they are mostly in shambles.
