A few years ago I stayed in a multi storey and multi block apartment in Mumbai. On Diwali, 10 - 15 watchmen from all other buildings and blocks used to go to each house and ask for Diwali gift. Imagine your bell rings and there are 10 - 15 people standing with a smile. 2000 rupees was common in such cases and I did a back of the envelope calculation that they all earnt about 1 lakh on Diwali :) It compensates the low salary they get across the year but still there is a lot that should be done to increase their monies.

We just received a message on our company  (Graphy by Unacademy) from our business head that, we should not come to him asking for 6-7 leave for Diwali. These are the employees who want to go back to there home town for the featival. Additionally he said that it is an optional holiday and we can ask for 2-3 days work from home max not more that that, and we should understand our business’s needs and remain focused on it. 
What should I do now I have to prioritise my family and going to my home town, like this I will have pressure from both ends, please pass on any advice.

My manager is asking me to be on-call on Diwali and has asked me to report in person. This is absolute stupidity.
Although I will be compensated at 2.5x of my hourly pay but I would rather spend time with my family.

What should I do? I have already tried to indicate that I have old parents and I want to spend as much time with them as possible especially given the limited moments I get to celebrate special occasions with them.
