Old parents, festival - you don't need to give so many reasons to him. You can take leave even if there is no reason. If you have courage to fight back just tell him you are not going to work on that day else work on that day. You won't find any magical solutions from others.

Take the money, study hard and get out. 
 Nobody can guarantee anything. Someone will have to support, if possible fly your parents to where you are staying take the day off on Monday after Diwali or something. 
  
 Sometimes you would have to be in your Manager's shoes. Someone important might be required for support. 
  
 But if every time you are being selected, then time to search

My manager is asking me to be on-call on Diwali and has asked me to report in person. This is absolute stupidity.
Although I will be compensated at 2.5x of my hourly pay but I would rather spend time with my family.

What should I do? I have already tried to indicate that I have old parents and I want to spend as much time with them as possible especially given the limited moments I get to celebrate special occasions with them.

I can’t believe it’s almost Diwali, and here I am, stuck in Bangalore. My family is in Meerut and I am sitting in front of my laptop, drowning in code and deadlines. Ten days to go, and I’m just feeling more and more frustrated.

My manager is pushing me too hard, expecting me to work like crazy. It’s not like I don’t have deadlines, but does he really think I can just skip home? I’ve been pulling late nights, drinking coffee like it’s water, but it doesn’t matter. He keeps piling on tasks, like he thinks I am a robot or something. 

I mean, can’t he see the value in taking a break? Everyone else is talking about their plans for Diwali. Meanwhile, I’m stuck in this office with a bunch of guys who are also grinding away, pretending it’s just another day. The energy is just off. It’s like we’re all just sad, doing the same thing day in and day out.

I tried talking to him about it. I was like, “Hey, it’s Diwali, you know?” But he just waved it off, said something about how important this project is and how we need to keep the momentum going. Seriously? It’s just software, not the end of the world. My parents have been calling me every day, asking if I’ll make it home. Each time, I have to give them the same excuse: “Work, you know?” And it sucks. I can hear the disappointment in their voices. 

It feels like I’m missing out on everything. My mom always makes sweets. I can already imagine my little sister running around with her friends, the excitement in the air, while I sit here scrolling through Stack Overflow ffs. 

I don’t get why companies can’t see the importance of family and culture. They preach about work-life balance, but when it comes to things that really matter, like Diwali, it’s all about the deadlines. 

There’s no way I’m getting a break now. The team is already stretched thin, and I’d just feel guilty leaving them. It’s just unfair that I’m here while everyone I love is celebrating together. I should be there helping my mom with the decor.

I wish I could just tell my manager to shove it and take leave. But that’s not how it works, is it?

This is to bring into notice that we have been asked to work on Diwali day and following weekend just bcoz the client has planned sone data migration to production. Is it fair by company management to ask their resources to work on such festivals. People earn to celebrate such moments with family. Why can't they push a bit n do this the next weekend. We have been working long hours n weekends for the project already. But asking us to even work on Diwali is just too much. EY SERIOUSLY NEEDS A BETTER WORK CULTURE!!!

 Plus, businessmen and hawkers, or farmers don’t have offs. 
  
 Is corporate culture taking things a notch too high? 
  
 While toxic workplaces are condemnable, a friend pointed out and I do concur- people earning 4x the usual salary need to slog more, and some of them are fine with it. 
  
 If I wanted a relaxed life, I chose such a profession. Many of my friends have turned to freelancing. 
  
 Choose your hell. Complaining might not help!

We just received a message on our company  (Graphy by Unacademy) from our business head that, we should not come to him asking for 6-7 leave for Diwali. These are the employees who want to go back to there home town for the featival. Additionally he said that it is an optional holiday and we can ask for 2-3 days work from home max not more that that, and we should understand our business’s needs and remain focused on it. 
What should I do now I have to prioritise my family and going to my home town, like this I will have pressure from both ends, please pass on any advice.

I developed an API that basically took inputs from a webform and loaded it into Salesforce (I have oversimplified here).  
 While testing , one of the fields was "website", I simply typed "www.rk.com" which were the initials of my pet doggo. 
 The test went well, data got loaded into Salesforce. 
 I then get pinged by the multiple people that rk.com is a porn site and multiple people while verifying the test results ended up clicking on the link and got flagged by the IT security team for watching porn on office laptop🤣 . 
  
 It was an honest mistake nonetheless, but very horrifying for me🙈

Yes you heard it right. It's for a company where most ex-Byju's folks have joined by parasite takeover(You can Search in linkedin). Ex Byju's folks aren't asked to do on call during that week because as per the company only they have a fair share of rights (as their bosses present everywhere)and non-byju's folks don't have. I hope their Diwali will also get ruined sometime, who are doing this kind of discrimination.

My manager called me in the meeting and said that from now onwards all 7 days are working because we are behind tasks.
( These tasks are irrelevant to me as these are not related to any customer development, he just wants to see how the data adds up )
Honestly I think it was the diwali week where people took things lightly and not that we are behind deadlines.
He asked me to be available 24x7 this Friday to Sunday but I had already planned the weekend off with family and pre intimated this 10 days in advance.
Now I'm getting calls that 'x' task was not done and 'y' customer is complaining etc. ( which is not the case )
On this break, I've finally made up my mind to quit.
The mental pressure is not worth it.

I am working at an European company. Previously my manager was non Indian. Some re org happened, and I got an Indian manager.

Man, I cannot tell you how many times I thought of resigning in the last 3 months. I think it’s in the genes.

For instance, I informed that I would be on leave on 26th dec, given that 23, 24 are sat and sun and 25 is Christmas.

So thing is  In last 1 week my manager/project lead has been threating that you will have to work on weekend if you dont complete your task by friday and put the the task to testing.

And this boils my blood soo damnn much . But as a person who is on lowest level i cant do/say shit. I just disagree with him and dont argue.

Work on weekend?!! Advice needed

I have put down my papers. My LWD will be on 10th of Jan. I am trying to convince my manager that since I will not be part of my current team after this PI (Program Increment) which will end on 6th December, I can't really contribute that much to a new team in a month of time.
All I am asking is to reduce the NP by 10 days since we have an annual shutdown from 25th dec. But the manager is not understanding. What should I do l?

Director of the firm is threatening that if I take a leave, he will ruin my career.

TLDR: Due to some family commitments, I applied for a 4 day leave and my director rejected, I have to go bc it's really important and I conveyed the same to him. He said that if I take the leave, he will fire me and ensure that there are strong negative remarks citing that I'm an indisciplined employee ruining my future employability prospectus.


So I work in this startup and it's been close to a year. Due to certain reasons I was working from home in the month of November (this was discussed with the management and they granted the same). In December, due to certain reasons, I had to take two days due to medical reasons (we don't have a sick leave policy so I had to use my PLs). 

This commitment is extremely important for my family and hence I need to be present, due to the job I have barely gotten the time to attend any family events bc of their work culture and their you-cannot-use-your-leaves-if-the-reason-is-not-serious.

After I applied for the leaves, I went ahead and spoke to my manager for the same to which she said she doesn't have any issue but the leaves are always approved by the director (I think this is micromanagement). I went ahead and then spoke to the director since I had to make reservations for the same and my director straight up rejected my request. I mentioned the reason in quite detail and to which the management mentioned that they will think about it. 

A couple of days later, I went to meet the upper management for the same and the final decision was that they cannot sanction leaves bc I was wfh the entire November and I took a couple of days off in December (The leaves I'm asking here are the ones which one can take in a calendar year, I didn't ask for anything above what has been mentioned). I further mentioned that it's really important for me to be there and I will have to go to which my director mentioned that if I go, the management will fire me o
