My manager is acting strange since I asked for a leave. What should I do?

We’re pretty chill. But I’m planning to go for a vacation to Kerala for 10 days almost, and since i told them they have been weird. Immediate response was to say that it’ll be tough to manage the project and that long a leave isn’t possible I debated back and they were like fine. But since then it’s just been very cold. What can I do? 🤕

Director of the firm is threatening to ruin my career

Director of the firm is threatening that if I take a leave, he will ruin my career. TLDR: Due to some family commitments, I applied for a 4 day leave and my director rejected, I have to go bc it's really important and I conveyed the same to him. He said that if I take the leave, he will fire me and ensure that there are strong negative remarks citing that I'm an indisciplined employee ruining my future employability prospectus. So I work in this startup and it's been close to a year. Due to certain reasons I was working from home in the month of November (this was discussed with the management and they granted the same). In December, due to certain reasons, I had to take two days due to medical reasons (we don't have a sick leave policy so I had to use my PLs). This commitment is extremely important for my family and hence I need to be present, due to the job I have barely gotten the time to attend any family events bc of their work culture and their you-cannot-use-your-leaves-if-the-reason-is-not-serious. After I applied for the leaves, I went ahead and spoke to my manager for the same to which she said she doesn't have any issue but the leaves are always approved by the director (I think this is micromanagement). I went ahead and then spoke to the director since I had to make reservations for the same and my director straight up rejected my request. I mentioned the reason in quite detail and to which the management mentioned that they will think about it. A couple of days later, I went to meet the upper management for the same and the final decision was that they cannot sanction leaves bc I was wfh the entire November and I took a couple of days off in December (The leaves I'm asking here are the ones which one can take in a calendar year, I didn't ask for anything above what has been mentioned). I further mentioned that it's really important for me to be there and I will have to go to which my director mentioned that if I go, the management will fire me o

Quite depressed😔

I am not depressed because of work or challenges, but only because of my manager. As soon I was under this new manager in a new project, I didn't knew my life would get so terrible. 1 The project got complicated because my manager couldn't understand the technical discussions. 2 Team lead was out in the starting itself because of the unethical or disrespectful behaviour of the manager. 3. Whole responsibility came over me. I did my tasks very well and even got appreciation from client side. I was expecting appreciation from my manager too but instead got an escalation 😞. Reason by manager:: 1. I don't provide clear status updates --> reality:: I provide updates on slack,Dsm,jira every day with full clarity. 2. I take Unplanned leaves -->reality:: 2 sick leaves only till now (one leave in one month) 3. Lazy and unproductive and many more --> reality:: I even help my senior with their tasks and who is doing the project then?? In this way, the manager wants to escalate with any way it finds. When I tried to have a discussion and asked relevant reason, the manager was quite unable to ans. My rating is also been spoiled 😮‍💨 Even the upper management is with The manager. We the team of 3 people from which only I am left, both of them being escalated and forcefully resigned from the company. I am been torchered with this escalations on a regular basis and I don't know how to tackle this situation.😞😞 --

Data Scientists on Grapevine: Should I Ask For Sick Leave After Being Cheated On

I just found out today I’ve been cheated on by my long term girlfriend who I lived with. Turns out she’s been cheating for a few months but she’s only just told me now because she’s fallen out of love for me and she’s fallen in love with him, so she’s leaving me for him. She says I neglected giving her the attention she needed because I was so focused on work I forgot to do the nice things for her like bring her flowers, or take her out for dinner or to just show her how much I loved her. Even though I’m so heart broken and haven’t stopped crying, I do forgive her because it’s true my work hours were bad and because we lived together I kept thinking in my head “it’s fine, ill make it up to her next time”. Plus, I was planning to quit my job once bonus comes at the end of this year to find a more chilled job so I could spend more time with her, I truly am ready to leave my job and that was my plan so I was just holding out until then. But now I won’t have the chance because she said its too late she has already lost interest in me and loves him. But this guy is a software engineer at a FAANG company earning 60-70L a year whilst only having to work 9-5 so he’s richer and has more free time to give her attention. Actually she said he only works around 3 hours per day, he does around 1 hour in morning then 2 hours after lunch and for the rest of the day he’s free to spend time with her, and his company doesn’t notice or mind. So this guy earns almost 3x my compensation for only 3 hours a day meanwhile I’m working 12 hours a day She would sneak out whilst I was at work to go on dates with him or round his house and then she would come back to my home in my bed in time for when I arrived from work so I wouldn’t notice. Now I feel really broken, I’m in no mental state to be working I can’t think about anything else I have deadline for work today and I’m just sat here crying writing this post. I know men are meant to be strong and hold our emotions together but I really am sad. I want to ask for 3 days sick leave at work but I don’t know if this normal and acceptable to do? Given most sick leave would be for grievances like the death of a loved one etc. or am I being a cry baby and I should man up and continue to work?
