Work on weekend?!! Advice needed

People are being forced to work on weekends in the name of "escalations". And instead of it being a request, it is an indirect threat. We are just mere freshers and do not know how to deal with this. How do we navigate this?

Context: I work at a startup, it's a pretty chill work environment, very flexible, hybrid model. Everything is great. Problem: They take flexible work hours too seriously, I have meetings at 10 PM on weekdays and almost every weekend there's some work which they need the next day in most cases but apparently have to keep the meeting on the weekend with no prior notice. I mean, i like going to office twice a week around 11-12 and coming back around 7, wfh when I have a few meetings that day but is it normal to work on weekends? and after work hours? P.S. I've only been in this company for a month and joined as a fresher. Now that I've put it down, this is such a gen z problem lol But what should I do?

It can be either a strange workplace policy, an altercation with a manager or absolutely anything else.

This created a strained and uncomfortable working environment for all of us as i used to put pressure on them on the influence of Karan Jain The situation worsened as I found myself working through weekends and even during leaves, resulting in severe mental exhaustion. Despite these efforts, new developers were hired, and I was sidelined. This period was particularly tough, leading to depression and sleepless nights. After enduring this for several months, I decided to resign from my position. Unexpectedly, KJ contacted me, urging me to withdraw my resignation. He assured me that the previous issues would be resolved and praised my contributions. Reluctantly, I decided to stay, hoping for a positive change. However, the company's environment continued to pose challenges. We were subjected to screen monitoring via Team Logger, where management frequently questioned my idle time. Despite my high productivity and efficiency, I was often scrutinized for taking breaks or assisting colleagues, which is essential for maintaining a collaborative workspace. Most recently, a significant and distressing event occurred, further affirming my decision to share my experience publicly. it’s crucial to address and bring awareness to the toxic practices that can affect employees’ mental health and overall well-being. I am new in a team and got a story assigned to me on Thursday afternoon. It was Friday morning and my manager was almost forcing me for 5-6 times to send the update on the story to client. As I work on VDI and it's too too slow, I was unable to go through the story properly, so forcibly, I had to send incorrect updates to client, to which they asked questions to my manager. And suddenly my manager's Second face revealed, and he asked me in the group "why did you send this incorrect update? You should have asked someone in team first. " (while he didn't give me some time to check with someone in team and forced me in the standup call to send updates at that time) and I was shocked, how this man turned his face within minutes!!!! When I justified my point, he started taunting me in the group chat, started argument and almost blamed me and shared the whole discussion to his manager and acted innocent. How these managers are so ruthless and double faced?? I am feared he would not approve my 1 week leave, I am planning to take during Dussehra or would give bad rating. Should I stay strong or apologize (even though I am not wrong )? Please suggest what should I do now???

how do you guys deal with managers setting up unrealistic deadlines? My manager without even consulting the team about efforts required gave the estimated completion date of the project which is impossible to deliver by that time. I tried to reason with him several times about extending the timeline but he doesn't listen at all. what should i do in this case?

Idv if he works 24 hrs a day, but i dont want to code more than 8 hrs a day for which I’m paid. I have to go to gym, dates, or play with friends. He can work on the task if he thinks it is so urgent, i do t mind 1 or 2 days working late ocassionally but not often.

Let's pour your heart out and share the worst experience you had (or having) while dealing with your manager (do add company name)

Manager seems to give more work when I complete the assigned task in a short period. Should I do work at the pace of others in the team who work at normal pace or continue with the very fast pace. How to escape this deadlock. Btw, I try to be fast paced in my work to maintain WLB and have some me time. Advise/Opinions please.

It’s been 5th weekend we are working . How can we avoid this ? It’s taking toll on everyone’s health but still ppl are not changing their deadlines.
