Can my employer find out if I started freelancing in upwork?

Upwork asks for pan details. So by any chance my employer can find out from the income tax portal or something?

It’s not illegal to have a side job.

What does my freelancer do? Met on up work, exchanged contacts, did the transaction off the platform ie offline, transferred money to his mother’s account

Because receiving payment off platform is risky i guess.

Yes receiving payment off platform is risky business. But it does work, once you have a trusted clientele.

Else mostly if amount is not more than 40k/50k you won’t be caught
