I recently interviewed at a startup for a Backend role. I cleared the initial take-home assignment round and subsequent DSA round and their HR told me the third round would be a Design round. I prepared accordingly. At the time of the interview, no one showed up. I had to wait for 15 minutes for someone to show up. Instead of asking me a Design question, the latecomer asked me another DSA question. I asked him why is he doing that as it was clearly communicated to be a Design round. The interviewer said Design would be asked in the next round if I clear this one. Weird!

He only gave me 10 minutes to come up with the solution. After that he spilled the answer, and cut the call abruptly. I get a rejection email the next day.

Now why am I writing this post? Because I just saw the CTO of thar company rant on Linkedin about how his candidates declined their offer letters at the last minute. The moral of the story is that if you misbehave with your candidates, they will misbehave with you. So be prepared to take the L.

Companies started hiring or there's still hiring freeze?

Hey everyone, I am a Junior FE Dev (from my prev work title coz my exp is 1YoE). Have been working extensively on React.JS and Redux. My previous company was great. I was loving it. Sadly a few months ago, I was laid off. I still don't know the reason behind why I was one of the laid off people. Anyway, I moved on from that depression and started searching for a new job from last month. Made it to final rounds in pretty much every interview I sat for. But then got rejected in final round for crazy reasons including "we currently don't have funds to hire you". One of them even said they are on hiring freeze, literally in the final round 🥲. 

Haven't been able to get a job anywhere. I don't know if my skills aren't enough to be hired or is it something else. "What's hot in FE right now ? Like what skills can fetch me a job ?" - Started asking this myself as well as some of my good friends, but they say don't learn skills for getting job, learn it for yourself. Though it's true, I don't have much savings to support myself for atleast a month. So, I have to get into a job to keep myself from going bonkers under the financial crunch that I can clearly see ahead of myself if I stay unemployed in the next 20 days.

Yes, the tech market is in its winter season. I understand that, but I still see there are so many openings in the market for ppl with 1YoE like me and skillset that matches mine, yet I never hear back from them or just get rejected in final rounds 😕.

I'm absolutely clueless on what to do right now. Any suggestions would be really helpful.

I have recently got laid off from one of the Fintech firms. They have been silently letting off people since last year but the no. Of employees let go have been higher in the past 2-3 months. They have downsized by more than 100 people in the last 8-10 months to avoid PR disaster. Hey fellow grapevine friends, let me share a hilarious tale of my recent job interview rollercoaster ride! So, picture this: I chanced upon interviewing for one those new age alternative fintech firms, feeling like a boss, acing every interview level with flying colors. The interviewers were practically showering me with positive vibes about the role and the company. I was on cloud nine!

But hold on to your seats, folks, because things took an unexpected turn. After the initial warm reception, it suddenly went colder than an iceberg. I waited eagerly for responses from the TA team, but all I got was radio silence. Not even a peep. It was like they vanished into thin air!

Now, I wasn't keen on pestering the hiring manager, but desperation got the best of me. I decided to shoot them a message, hoping for some answers. And guess what? They hit me with the most mind-boggling news ever – a hiring freeze! Can you believe it? Talk about bad timing, right? I must have brought some serious jinx along with me.

As if that wasn't enough, I then discovered something straight out of a conspiracy movie. I noticed that the TA team's LinkedIn profiles had that same little green circle, indicating they were open to work.. But wait, there's more! A bunch of ex-employees and other members of the team also had that eerie green circle. What on earth was happening here? Are they secretly communicating in some LinkedIn language that mere mortals like us don't understand?

Oh well, my friends, the job hunt can be a wild and wacky adventure, full of unexpected twists and turns. But fear not, for I am armed with resilience and a great sense of humor! So, with popcorn in one hand and my resume in the other, I shall continue my quest to conquer the job market. While also finding the anomalies of the start up world. Here's to embracing the unpredictability and staying positive on this crazy journey! Cheers to the next chapter of my job hunt! 🍿🚀

Why do companies like Fi, Jupiter, Airtel, Paytm, Wells Fargo, Razorpay, Phonepe and other players in Fintech space hire folks from IIT/NIT with chemical and mechanical background with no prior experience than a folk like me who is an immediate joiner, who has 4 years of experience in product management, have bachelors in computer science, a dual MBA degree, unemployed and looking for jobs for 1.8 years now? 

They mention in the job description that they want candidates to have prior experience in banking or payments or insurance basically BFSI but they don't have any such criteria for people coming from IITs and NITs who join them as associate product manager with no prior experience at all.
