Just wanted to know why and how come our companies have horrible WLB and cultures compared to western counterparts. Is it the fault of the employees for accepting whatever and acting like sheep or is it just the mindset of the senior management to treat their subordinates the same horrible way they were treated as some sort of sick rite of passage ?

Hello, fellow men reading this. I have tried my best to include all my learning and those of my friends. I’ve written this as informally as possible.

Let’s get right into it.

Functionality matters as much as features; your personality will matter as much as your looks.

Your looks or pictures on the app will act as a hook, something that will stop girls from swiping left on the spot.

Looks

- Try going to the gym after work or college, and aim for a lean body. This will bring about the most significant change in you over time and will also encourage a good diet and discipline. Everyone likes a fit and athletic person.
- Experiment as much as possible with your appearance. Look up different hairstyles according to your face shape and A/B test with your barber.
- Consider getting a frame of specs suited to your face shape. For example, a square frame can really bring out your jawline compared to an oval frame.
- Wash your face twice a day, use sunscreen, and drink a lot of water. Your face is how everyone judges you, and if you are glowing and smiling, people will be more positive towards you.
- Maintain proper personal hygiene.

Pictures

- Please don’t fall into the trap of generic guitar/dog pictures. You want your pictures to represent who you are as a person. If you are into scuba diving, include a picture of it. If you like books, get a picture from a bookstore.
- Experiment with different poses and locations. Iterate and iterate to see what works.
- Don’t forget to smile. The last thing you want is for girls to assume you are too serious.
- Your pictures need to be a mirror of you. For example, I smile and laugh 24/7, so all my images are goofy.

Hi, assuming this app has India’s top 1%, and assuming some of us amass 5-10Cr by the age of 40/45 - and have a kid thats 10 years old by then, would you want him/her to get in the rat race just like you did or study something along the lines of how to make a 10% return on that wealth per year. If its the latter, whats your approach on teaching this to him/her. We built money from the scratch, but our kids can just take it further along. Thoughts? 

Other way to frame it is - if you were gifted 1Cr at the age of 18 - how would you deploy it to make a return while also growing the wealth.

Now a days work is never ever getting completed, we are working even after the office hours because every project is a p0 project, also managers are autocrative then a tech lead who dont have l0 knowledge but will comment on your timelines and i really doubt that with this culture in it industry i would really want to continue for long run. 
Are there some better career pivots that should be consider in mid 20s to avoid life long suffering ?

Hustle culture and toxicity

When I was in melbourne, I met a waiter in an Indian restaurant. He did his bachelor's in biotech and worked at this resto part time. Post his studies he got some job opportunity but stuck to this resto job. I asked him why? He said I get a free house and 2 meals. In 5 years I can collect enough money to go to hometown and buy 2-3 shops and m done for life. That time I was like how can a person be such? With no ambition?  
 Now I empathize after having high BP, neck pain, and many stress induced illnesses. Work on something, be really good at it and give it time. Its ok to be rich at 45, no need to have millions today. I used to think I missed the bus if I didn't make millions by 30. Now a bit wiser.

With careers now lasting only 20–25 years, those in their 40s and 50s are grappling with longer job hunts, mounting stress, and financial pressure. Agree?

Unwilling retirees

What does unemployment around you look like? Or if not around us, for people trying to come out of Tier 2/3 towns. These mass recruiters (behemoths like Capgmeni & Cognizant + TCS Infosys) are actually the gateway for many into a city life. In the absence of it, it's scary to think what they're up to.

What happens to those 1.5L students/professionals? Scares me everyday.

We probably will see an unprecedented economic divide in this country going forward if the unemployment rate stays this high. 
 And we know for a fact the government has tried to suppress this number to paint a rosy picture

I am working in IT with below average Salary. Now thinking of becoming rich only business can make you rich. How much I earn, I can’t become rich, considering becoming CEO of FANG is out of picture in a normal person’s life. How to switch from job to business ? Any success stories ?

Okay, this post is not for any comparison but genuinely want to get insight on where do i stand in terms of saving among the corporate employees. 
I will go first.

5.75 crore including flat . Not including car or jewellery. No loans or emis or debt of any kind . Age 41

Recently set out to hire interns and had a really strange experience

Went through about 170 CVs. Most were shabbily formatted - which is okay, I understand most people aren’t that serious in college.

But then after shortlisting and setting up interviews:
- Multiple kids just did not show up for the interview. They did not even write a mail excusing themselves. Or reply to any mail from me about them missing the call.

- Some of them literally turned up for the call on their phone. They’re mostly well to do, and definitely have laptops. But just casual. 

- This reduced my selection pool to literally 8-9 interns from 180. Of these too, generally saw most of them had too much overconfidence and arrogance about them. Barely went into the depth of the answers, and would over-portray their contribution in past projects/internships, without being able to explain what they really did

I am genuinely shocked and taken aback. These were all Tier 1 college kids, and I just did not expect it to be so bad. A shock for me, and a future shock for many of these kids when they get into the workforce!

Come to Tier 3 colleges, they are very humble and hardworking 😊

I blame parents for this. Not that coaching centres are saints, they suck the life out of students by making them study 24/7 but the reason that child is in coaching centre is because parents put him/her there.

And every suicide letter I have read from students mentions that they couldn't fulfil parents expectations.

They are the reason their child is in that condition, just because they want to brag and seek validation  from so called society that their child is a prodigy (and want to establish that they are the creator of this prodigy) who went to medical/IIT. And if the child doesn't act acc. to their expectations, they start gaslighting them "We gave you birth" "Maa baap bhagwan ka roop hote hai how dare you blame us Or don't listen to us" 
I once watched a movie (don't remember the name) where actress says "As parent we determine if our child needs tuition classes but at same time we fail to know if he/she needs therapy"

Who do you think is to be blamed? 

Also parents on GV don't push your child if he doesn't want to fly, thinking he has wings, he may fall to death.

SC blames parents for Kota suicides, refuses to rein in coaching centres

Who do think is responsible for stress? Parents or coaching mafia?

The root cause of all this is overpopulation and a shortage of jobs. Coaching centers and tough parenting only exist as a consequence of this

Had nowhere to write about this but I feel so angered. Young people should work 70 HOURS? IN A WEEK?

For what? Why is there 70 hours worth of work to do? You pay consultancy firms and good for nothing managers to optimise things and make it more efficient, no? Why can't you make sure work happens within the 40-50 hours? Or readjust deadlines and expectations at least? 

The employees allow you to bring in more profits, no? Hire more people - let them spread the workload. Give them more time off. Let them use the 40-50 hours they're already putting in more effectively instead of pressuring them to put more hours?

A skilled potter takes less time to make a pot than an idiot trying it for the first time. Does that mean the idiot is more hard working?

What is your logic in saying that Indians need to put in more hours to compete with the world?
Put more money into your employees no? 

An extremely bright engineering friend of mine was given a <3 LPA offer from Infosys. That kind of amount is a rounding error for any single client order and you're playing games with someone's livelihood?

Shame on you.

GenZ are the most diverse generation (accelerated by growing up with the internet since we were 4 years old) and you cannot generalise by saying 'this is genz' because no matter what, not even 30% of us are similar.
  
Yes, we run after validation on Instagram. And yes it's unhealthy. But it's not fair to single us out. Older generations have also been obsessed with TV News, FB and Twitter. No need to deny, we all know.
  
GenZ also more openly talks about mental health and we call out things which the older generations just accepted as 'aisa hi hota hai'. Think Gender Inclusivity, Harmful Climate Practices, Running after only Salary, Marriage and Kids, Jobs where you're not treated with Basic Human Dignity, Shitty Mental Health, etc. 
 
We're conscious about prioritising our mental health, even though it's tougher for us than ever before, so we're sorry if our calling things 'toxic' annoys you a little.

We're all extremely concerned about Climate Change because we know we're the last generation which can fix this.
