I'll go first. I got a call for an APM role from one of the companies which did sound pretty sketchy and the recruiter was started bullying me into answering questions, when I asked to know more about the role. The recruiter was extremely unprofessional, and obviously the conversation was nowhere great. They however, did go ahead and sent me the JD and other links, etc to fill in and apply for the job. Mind you, I hadn't applied for the job. 🥲
It just was a pretty sour conversation which had left me in an uncertain situation. Any similar experiences?

Weird recruiter experiences

Asked for my expected CTC. I answered and they weren't happy with it. Said they could only give at 40% increment of current CTC and then asked for my current CTC. After hearing my current CTC they said I shouldn't be earning this much and that I was obviously making it up. Then asked to send over my salary payslip which I refused. Basically the HR started being extremely rude at this point stating that I was being unprofessional. I asked their salary budget for the role which they refused to answer. Then I asked if they were willing to hire me for a lower CTC which she instantly agreed and said she knew I was reasonable and I shouldn't have lied about my CTC. I then said good luck finding a candidate for that amount and hung up.

So i approached a PM at klub, a revenue based financing firm & asked him about open positions. He forwarded my cv to the hr.

Couple of days later, the hr called me & we had an initial discussion. Then he scheduled an intro round with a PM.

I had the PM round which was completely behavioral. It seemed like he was not much interested in the interview & took it just for the sake of it. Questions like tell me about yourself, why klub, why PM were asked.

2 weeks later i called the hr(yes, there were no responses from them) & asked him whats the status to which he replied, we have proceeded with another candidate.

*Here comes the interesting part*

I asked him to provide me a reason because i didnt get any feedback from the PM. This is the conversation which happened
He: we are looking for pm with experience in api integrations only
Me: okay so why was that not mentioned in the JD
He: the requirement was changed later & also you dont have the experience required(1-3 yrs)
Me: so why did you contact me in the 1st place if you thought i didnt have enough experience? Also, there are 2 guys who are working at klub who are from consulting background & have no experience whatsoever but they're apm
He: but you need to understand that they are from tier 1 college, bits pilani & iit madras
Me: how does that make a difference in product experience? I have worked on & built real products even if its for 10 months, all they have are hypothetical case studies, its not like they have been entrepreneur at past
He: no we have specific requirements & the hiring manager didn't see yours as a fit

Hr will hire people with no experience but from a premium college than people with experience but from a not so known college

I am a 2023 grad. I joined a startup but it is asking me to look for new opportunities. I interview at Zeta and recieved an offer. I also have an offer from Service Now.
Current compensation: 21 TC (16 base)
Zeta : 17 TC(16 base) not ready to increase even after counter offer
Service Now: 23 TC(15 base)
Hear lot of bad things about zeta like silent layoffs, 0% hike this year and we need to go to office 5 days a week where as it is hybrid at service now. Zeta has  better learning and that is the only upside of it. Would love to hear some feedback.

This was my pathetic interview experience with Acceldata india with a very unprofessional and lying recruiter. This story has a satisfying ending.

I attended 6 rounds of interviews in 1 month and completed a take home assignment. I cleared all the rounds and even had a manager discussion about my onboarding. All good so far. 

Few days later the recruiter called back and said we need one more round (8th round) with the director who sits in US office. I said Ok and he scheduled this call on a Friday 10pm at night. 

At 9:55pm I tried to join the meeting link he sent but the link was not working. I tried in different browsers, different laptop, different internet connection. No luck. 

So I reached out to recruiter on mobile and he doesn't pick up. I know he's available because he was on call with someone else. I even tried reaching him via a different phone number but still no luck. Imagine the anxiety and panic I had to go through since I felt that it was my fault. 

On, next day he casually calls me in the morning to say that "Sorry I tried calling you 2 days ago but your mobile was unreachable (which is a plain lie). He says he cancelled the meeting because he found another candidate with lower salary.

That's fine, and I don't give a damn at this point. But I asked why didn't he send meeting cancelled email so I didn't have to panic on a friday late night. He casually says "Sorry about that". That's the last I hear of him. No response after that. 

All this after going through 8 rounds of interviews and a take home assignment. All because this a--hole recruiter lied to my face and couldn't send a simple email. 

Funny thing is: Another recruiter reached out to me 3 months later for the same role. Apparently the candidate they hired instead of me backed out at the last miniute. 🤣

If you get a chance to interview at AccelData, trust me, please don't waste your time. The company and the recruiting practises are not worth your time, even if you are jobless.

Recently set out to hire interns and had a really strange experience

Went through about 170 CVs. Most were shabbily formatted - which is okay, I understand most people aren’t that serious in college.

But then after shortlisting and setting up interviews:
- Multiple kids just did not show up for the interview. They did not even write a mail excusing themselves. Or reply to any mail from me about them missing the call.

- Some of them literally turned up for the call on their phone. They’re mostly well to do, and definitely have laptops. But just casual. 

- This reduced my selection pool to literally 8-9 interns from 180. Of these too, generally saw most of them had too much overconfidence and arrogance about them. Barely went into the depth of the answers, and would over-portray their contribution in past projects/internships, without being able to explain what they really did

I am genuinely shocked and taken aback. These were all Tier 1 college kids, and I just did not expect it to be so bad. A shock for me, and a future shock for many of these kids when they get into the workforce!

I had 1st round with hiring manager of a famous SAAS company. It was a 30 min call. He came 20 mins late. Was in hurry. Rejection mail came after a day.

Recently, I gave an interview at this early startup in Bangalore. It consisted of 5 rounds.
- The first four rounds were technical, design, and assignment rounds which went well. I answered all the questions fairly well and the interviewer was happy knowing the answer.

- The fifth round was with the CEO - Now this was the turning point. He was more concerned about my personal situation. He asked questions like, where I live, where is my hometown, if WFO is okay for me (I was working remotely in my current company ), and where is your dad ( I said he was no more and that turned off the CEO of a company), how will you keep my mother in BLR, why your mom not living with your siblings?. And I was like "WTF man".the only technical question he asked -> "Have you ever hacked a system in your recent days?". 😂😂

After wasting more than 14 hours in the process I received a rejection mail without any feedback.

Message to recruiter - if you are more concerned about the personal situation of the candidate, please conduct a preliminary round for that.

I've recently appeared for the Interview at Apple. Total 7 rounds and last round was with the HR. Till 6th round feedback was quite positive and in the 7th Round there was discussion that happened about Salary expectation. HR mentioned that she will check and get back with approved numbers and If I'm okay then they will proceed with releasing the offer letter. So I was expecting the same.

But One week later HR called and rejected me saying that another Candidate is selected for this role. I was heartbroken and devastated. When I asked for the feedback, She said they cannot share the feedback it's just that they felt another candidate is better fit than me so they are going ahead with that candidate. On the very next day of my rejection call, they opened the Same position again in the Careers site.

After 2 weeks again I called the same HR to understand If I could apply for the open position. She said that the Careers site it posted wrongly, the open position is not for my experience but it's for more experienced/senior Level. I could think that HR is not being transparent. This time again I asked for feedback, what went wrong or what could have been better, to which she replied that I was not clear on certain things and I was not transparent.

Background is : After 6 rounds were done, HR called me suddenly one day and informed me that I cleared all the rounds and asked me for the expectation. I thanked her and asked about the Role (IC3 or IC4 or IC2) that I would likely get So that I can do some research and get back.
She said she doesn't have clarity yet on the Role and mentioned mostly it would be IC3. So I asked her for some time to get back and 2 hours later I discussed my expectations. 
Then a week later, the Rejection call.

Not sure what went wrong. In my most recent call she mentioned that for some simple questions like expectations I was not giving answers properly. It's been 3 weeks and I still could not come out of that rejection.

These job switch questions were already asked in first and second round as well and even by the HR. I think if everyone was convinced by my reasons then why the hell would I get rejected in the final round? If this was the problem then I wouldn't have worked hard for all the rounds . They should have rejected me in the first round itself if that was the only reason they wanted to reject me. Plus I asked for a CTC of 27 LPA. I have 5 yrs of experience. BCG HR said she doesn't have that budget. I laughed in my mind. How can the HR lie on the face even when they know that there are other companies ready to offer me more than even 27. They are like unfortunately we don't have the budget. After 3 days she called me again saying we will match your expectations. I don't understand why you would irritate a candidate by raising their hopes and then reject them. I think MBBs are overhyped. The leadership sucked. If BCG can't pay me 25-30 lpa then I think they have lost their game big time.

Have you guys interviewed at MBB companies and got rejected in the fourth round? Just because you had multiple switches? I recently interviewed at BCG and everything went well until the director saw I gave a valid reason for each switch.

I am a '21 graduate from a Tier 1 college (old IIT) and have had short stints as product manager at a couple of startups. About a year back, I decided to startup but after a few months, realized that startup idea wasn't worth pursuing. 

Researched around a few startup ideas and finally landed upon a good one in D2C space. But the problem is financing. I don't have much saving and friends / family network wouldn't be able to finance this. I really want to pursue this idea but finance is becoming a hindrance. 

So started looking for job opportunities about 3 months back. I have been exploring work opportunities in product / founder office / EIR roles or other generalist role. 

Job hunt process has been frustrating to say the least. Getting very few calls. In most cases, people are ghosting after couple of rounds of interview or assignment. In some cases, after getting through 2-3 rounds, I got to know that opening has been closed temporarily. Most HRs don't even have the decency to give feedback. 

I don't intend to work in job for long anyway. As soon as I have the job, I plan to start working on my business idea and quit as soon as I have enough financial leeway. 

How should I go about job hunt process? I have been trying to connect with folks on LinkedIn in whose company job openings are there. Apart from this, I have been connecting with founders from recently funded startups. Naukri / Instahyre and IIM Jobs are other portals I have been looking on. Anything I should do differently here?

 Never do the assignment for any company.This company will ghost you every time after the assignment or will offer lower pay / lower position.

Hi, I'm a fresher who just completed his undergrad from a tier 2 college, I have proper prior internship experience as a quant analyst and have in-depth knowledge about the financial markets but everytime I try and apply for Analyst positions at any major bank or a firm I end up getting rejected just bcoz my degree doesn't have an IIT or NIT tag on it, I don't even make it to the first round, I just get filtered out as soon as I apply, is there any way I can get around this, any particular skill I can work on that will impress the recruiters or will help me enhance my chances?

Any kind of help would be appreciated.

Comp1: cleared 5 technical rounds.  They asked me to come in person for a particular date, informed me that date and time will be informed later. After a week got rejection mail. 

Comp2: Done well in the technical round. Profile was in process status  in the company portal for the last 45 days.  Today I got a rejection mail.

For me it was McKinsey 
 It was the best job out of college, status wise. 
  
 Did well in college and made it to the final shortlist. Was obsessed with it, read books and all about The Firm. 
  
 Then the interviews happened, couldn’t convert. Was a downer.  
  
 But 5 years later, doesn’t matter much. I feel life taught me better things. And my fascination of consulting jobs has changed drastically since :p

The stupidity and arrogance of some leaders in some companies to use colleges as filter criteria for what is clearly irrelevant for the role. 

Mostly these idiots end up fucking up company after company creating these neo-casteist groups sucking off and living off each other.

This identity based hiring is the start of corporate politics. I still don’t understand how difficult it is for fucking idiots to understand that while hiring for most roles you have to encourage diverse backgrounds at the start of the process to help you hire the right candidate for the long term, specially in a startup. 

PS I’m not against preferring candidates from certain colleges if it’s relevant. What i do hate is this herd behaviour of trying to hire only from your alumni the moment you are given leadership roles.

It must be such shitty experience to work under idiots like these if you are not from their alumni colleges because their biases play into all evaluations they do about their teams.

This is pretty common, has been like that for ages. It’s their company and their rules. You also have the freedom to NOT apply. Maybe they have had better experiences with candidates from top tier universities. Remember getting into most tier 1 colleges is itself difficult and only top talent make it. Also get better academic infrastructure, exposure to alumni networks, etc. So there are high chances they will do well. 
  
 Doesn’t mean that candidates from non-tier1 universities can’t excel. Some can be equally good or even better. Maybe these guys don’t want to take a chance with this role.

Hi Grpeviners, I've given so many interviews. Qualified technical rounds for many but have been ghosted several times. Like the HR stops receiving my calls or they say at the end that sorry we want someone to join within 45 days. Sometimes they say, sorry we got some candidate from our organization and list is never ending. I feel very disheartened due to this ongoing scenario. Why is this happening to me, what should I improve in myself? Am I out of budget, notice period? Please help!
