The money supply has gone down (because interest rates are high in America). Any business who was paying salary by raising money from investors can only pay as much, as there money supply is stopped.

Ya I was remotely working with a US startup and got laid off last week. There was no clue about layoffs before it all happened in 3 hrs.  
 I feel the situation is the worst in both India and Us.

The sad part is Fed is Going to pump money within a year but this time companies won't hire people. They will hire AI agents or AI tools or ai assisted agencies as temporary resources

Been hearing layoffs again and there are less hiring what's the actual reason for this and when this become normal

Why layoffs ? What's happening with it sector ?

With big corporate giants like Google, Apple, Bain, Tesla, Amazon etc. laying off staff in the name of cost reduction, automation&innovation and restructuring while at the same time tech companies like Accenture not awarding any yearly hikes to professionals for 2 consecutive years now, where do you see the IT/Tech/Consulting industry heading towards in next couple years down the line? By when is the market expected to revive? Which companies are still committed to ensuring job security along with high pay standards or is that a thing of the past? Please enlighten me😊

I am seeing a lot of layoff related posts everywhere from news articles to LinkedIn.. Is the Job market really that bad now? Or just the media is projecting that way? 

If it's really bad, which department you think is the most affected? How's layoffs specifically in India? Or is it layoffs in US but more hiring in India due to cost cutting? 

Are layoffs in technology/engineering dept as in for developers or some other departments? Your thoughts please..

It is really bad right now 
 1. Layoffs in many of the companies, irrespective of whether they're a startup or a big MnC. 
 2. Almost everyone I know of wants to switch, because of no/less appraisals from last 2 years 
 3. Bad work life balance - people thinks switching might help 
 4. Too much competition for any open position. Because of too much supply, companies are low-balling and people would accept the offer.  
  
 Recruiters ghosting is too common. Even if you've killed in your interviews and recruiters get someone who's ready to join on less pay, they'll simply ghost you.

I am really curious why there are so many layoffs in the IT industry. Wherever you see, big companies like CISCO are laying off so many employees. Experts on Grapevine, please explain what is going on.

Why are there so many layoffs?

Amazon Microsoft, Google, etc. All layying off people.

They just started sending emails today morning for US/Canada. 

India/EU would be sent next week so we dont know the exact numbers yet.

Same information going on Blind, hundreds of Amazon employees laid off in the morning.

Looking at so many layoffs at Google, Cloudflare and FAANG-type comoanies; that too in spite of having profitable quarters makes me think of FAANG is a curse instead of blessing?

From the last few days there were talks going on about layoffs in Morgan Stanley. Some 7% of the global staff will be handed over the pink slip in this week. 
Well... It started happening from today ... Few colleagues from my department were laid, and the reason being "company is trying to survive in the market, company is planning the road ahead by taking such bold steps".
When this was announced, my anxiety shot up the next level and I couldn't wait for the meeting to finish.
The past few years have not been great for the business worldwide due to which many companies are forced to take such steps. These companies just have been doing a hiring spree from the last 1-2 years that now they are regretting their decisions and letting off their employees.
My question is - "If a company hires excessively during the bull market and is forced to lay off few of the employees during the downturn, has the company made an error by not evaluating the headcount or it was just simply the need of the hour" 
 
Please note - I know many people out there who have faced job cuts due to many factors, sincerely requesting people to take this matter very seriously

That's it. That's the reason. No recession, no lack of profits. Till now, layoffs were a sign of a weak corporation and something shameful. A company doing layoffs meant they were on the verge of a collapse but now its socially acceptable. 

Instead of being ashamed, some companies are cleverly using the layoffs to portray themselves as the victim and as it gains more and more acceptability, more and more companies are using lay offs as cost cutting measures and jumping on the bandwagon before its too late.

Guys, i am in final year B.Tech, currently preparing for placements. 

My Parents advice is to prepare for Govt Jobs. They are fearing about the layoffs, but my aim is to get job in anyone of the MAANG.

I just want to know why layoffs happening. Is it because of the over hiring or because of the poor performance of the employees.

Please share your experience in your company too.

Week back there were posts by linkedin engineers that linkedin is hiring SDEs and anyone can as referral and today they laid off 700 people.

Like whats happening man!!! Is the company dumb or what?

(1) Reduce cost of human capital -> (2) Post better EBITDA numbers in earnings calls -> (3) Get big bonuses and sell your equity if its value is rising -> (4) Hire a lot of people again so that you can repeat this cycle again to profit

Had this thought since long back, but there's one common pattern I have witnessed. 
Since the Twitter layoffs, all the companies out there (including FAANG/MAANG) have joined with the layoffs trend. What's surprising is that most of these companies have had a great financial year and made profits in billions. 
Recession is a time when markets go down and companies can't retain their customers due to economic or socio-political issues. 
So the current situation has made me question whether the layoffs are actually due to this fancy term called 'Recession', which most of the tech influencers out there are preaching and selling thier courses with (shame on them for doing so during these times) or is it actually the VC's control over the companies which is making the CEO's take such decisions?
All things aside, My heart goes out with people who have been impacted by layoffs. Don't forget that there is a thin line between being laid off and being fired, so don't lose your confidence and look out for new opportunities and sell yourself in the market.
Never forget, no matter how the market conditions are, if you are skilled and good at what you do jobs will always find you.

Are layoffs due to recession?

To be very honest I feel very frustrated looking at the situation right now. Companies are laying off without worrying about the employees. It's just corporate profits everywhere.

I am scared to death that my career won't last long than 20 years because the moment these folks think you are becoming a financial burden on them, they'll lay you off.

I don't want to live my life in a constant war mode. The Indian education system has bruised my personality for a long time. I want to relax but looking at this battlefield I can never.

My weekends are spent worrying about planning for finances in case I get laid off. I am worried I won't be able to buy a house.

This shit is depressing me very much. Other folks please tell me how are you navigating this mess?

Mandatory : keep on up skilling 
 Optional :  go outside India or move to operational roles(as it doesn't need creativity bone)  
  
 In your 30's you shouldn't explore stuff, stick with one domain(example : digital marketer) be the SME. In 40s you'll have 10+ years experience of a domain, and you're part of that domains evolution  
  
 No one wil have the know how you gained in 10 years
