“You have four modes of communications. There are three Ps, and they're all externals.

You have a Politician […] they'll lie just for you to like them. Well, we do this all the time. When we go for a job interview, because we want to be liked, we want people... So we tell people what they want to hear.

Then you have a Preacher […] I think about Steve Jobs and his reality distortion field, how successful that was. I'm trying to add a positive connotation to that, though you also know the negatives, what the negatives are.

And then you have a Prosecutor, which is like when somebody in the courtroom trying to get somebody to change their mind. I would argue, we spend probably maybe too much time in the prosecutor mode.

But here's the problem. These modes, they have positive and negatives, but here's the thing, this one commonality they'll have, if you spend all your time in those modes, you're going to learn very little, because they are outward facing modes. You're just trying to change somebody's mind, or influence other people.

And then you have a Scientist mode, and this is the mode that you and I, and I'm sure you are already, but people like us should spend 80% of our time in […] And in this mode, anything enters your mind is hypothesis, which you examine from different directions, and then for careful for examination, you're like, "Okay, this is what I think." And by the way, if somebody else changes my mind, I'm fine to this.””

Also, how do you guys deal with the negative attributes of your personality? I feel that the more stress I am under the better I get at the expense of becoming more aggressive and irrational. ( I once bought a second hand Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 without even knowing how to ride a bike because this girl I liked then said that I couldn't pull off that vibe)

Is there anyone who is safe. It's just at the mercy of few decision makers at the top and no matter what you do you will never be safe.

An actual dumb thing I said was at my first Data Science interview at a top tech company here in Bangalore. Interviewer asked me about my projects, and me being unpolished, I said that I had done a regression project. So he asked me how did I measure whether the model was "good".

I said that, "The accuracy of the model was high"

Interviewer responded with, "...You know Regression tasks are measured with MAE/MSE/RMSE and not accuracy, right?"

Lmao. You live and you learn. 🤡

Looks like no matter where you go, it always takes way more time and Google Maps is never accurate in this city. This is not the case for other cities

During my internships, I have worked on a variety of projects that have honed my technical skills and problem-solving abilities. 

 Microsoft:
 I modelled and migrated UpdateLastActivityTimeTask Time Based Assistant(TBA) for expiry renewal task from Model A(Monolith) to Model B2(Microservice) for Unified Groups for backend architecture of groups in M365 ,it has potential to reduce 57% computation of 3 Million Mailboxes all over the world on which previously the given assistant is running which created impact by saving too much COGS.  

PixySquare :
I developed user-friendly component features in Next JS and React JS for 6+ websites and handled SEO management for more than 3 restaurants and institutions. 

 Innovative Scripts: 
I was involved in adding new interactive components to the client's website and added relevant content for many products. In addition to my internships

 I have completed a number of academic projects that have prepared me for the challenges of the Software Engineering Intern position. For example, I developed FindOne, an exclusive portal(WebApp) for finding missing people that provides a real-time face-recognition center just to track their location with WhatsApp notification feature with location sent to stakeholders immediately once captured with very less latency anda good accuracy (99.38%) of face detection. I also developed Covid Tracker, a web app based on Covid-19 API to give real-time information on Covid-19 cases across the world 190
countries, India, and across each state of India(states+UT), a dashboard of cases(Confirmed and recovered), deaths, and active cases.

I've heard lots of conflicting good and bad viewpoints on ISB on Grapevine and otherwise. I want to explore these things more and build a balanced perspective.

Good things I've heard:-
1. Average comp is decently high as most of the batch has a decent amount of experience.
2. Professors, their way of teaching and the actual course content is one of the best in India.
3. The network is really strong, easily accessible via many channels and helps alumni land jobs frequently.

Bad things I've heard:-
1. Placement comp numbers are heavily inflated.
2. Resume shortlisting in placements is hard because everyone exaggerates a lot and there's no resume vetting.
3. Many people go unplaced.

How much of this (good or bad) is true? Any other good or bad points?

How good/bad is ISB?

I heard that even VCs like Sequoia and Matrix Venture Partners are laying off people 

Sequoia has laid off 3 Analysts, 1 VP and 1 associate and Matrix has laid off 5-6 people

Any thoughts? Is it true?
