I have seen a lot of positions about being full stack with a polyglot mindset. One of the full stack positions I worked for was almost always frontend with little backend work.
I acknowledge it's a great way to learn as well and not everyone's cup of tea.
But isn't this a clever way companies have got to churn more work from a single person while paying almost the same as a backend or a frontend dev?

Saw a comment somewhere here to not do full stack development but only focus on one area and upskill in that. I assume they meant focus on frontend or backend only.

I’ve always thought full stack is more desirable than being only focused in one area.

I am a FullStack engineer working at a startup with 1 YOE, lately I have realised that there are more specialist roles (Frontend/SRE) in most companies and are paid really well.

I really like working FullStack (Typescript with Node/PHP) and am wondering if I'll have to become a specialist in order to have a well paid job in future 🤔 ?

Is being FullStack not respected ?

Hi folks, I am a frontend engineer. A bit of background about me:

- Exp: 4 years
- Tech: Over the years, I have only worked on frontend and some build tooling. For all these years I have only used JS/TS and ReactJS to the point where I currently feel handicapped in other languages.

My problem with frontend:

Most companies I have worked till now except for one, frontend is just converting the UI designs to UI code as fast as possible. Most companies do not offer much time to think about different cases for a component and write it well. Its mostly, if it works then push. Contrast to this, BE does get proper design + arch to ensure it scales well with future requirements.

Why I am thinking of backend/fullstack roles?

Seems better from future point of view. Progression is clear in BE, lot more roles it seems, interview process is mostly standard. In FE its sometimes FE releated, some DSA etc. So never sure what they going to ask. Also, progression in FE is bit unclear and how to make a case for it.

What are my options?
1) In my current company, BE is Java + Springboot, I have started doing some BE tasks here and there but seems Java + Springboot is a mammoth and I dont know if I will be good enough for a switch of roles with this experience. Switching inside the company feels a far fetched dream since there are far less number of FE devs and I have to mostly work on FE tasks one after the other because of scarcity.

2) Learn and do some side projects in Node.js since already familiar with JS and also had done some small APIs(freecodecamp) based on nodejs in the past.

3) Learn python, good for backend software dev + good for ml also going forward. Seems easier than Java to get started with django.

Primary confusion between  2 & 3 is, does side project make any difference when switching for roles or will actual job experience with option 1 be of more value even though it will take a long long time? 

Please suggest if someone has switched roles before.

Moving from Frontend to Backend/Fullstack roles?

I'm a frontend dev, with close to 5 years of workex. I've been trying to switch to a full stack dev role for a couple of years now. Tried switching internally, but it didn't work because there were too many backend devs and too much dependency. 

Stuck with an infinite leetcode loop, did online courses but couldn't put those skills to work in building projects.
 
I'm looking for some advice with a focus on cracking the interviews. The plan is to take up a Full stack dev role in the next 3 months.

So I am working on frontend for past 1 year, and work has become monotonous and I always wanted to be in backend, my team only works in frontend.

What should I do because I don’t want to be stuck in frontend forever, people around me are saying if I stay here for a year more, I will be stuck in frontend and it will be very hard for me to switch to backend.

I am frontend developer with 5 years exp, no of jobs are generally high for full stack developers in platforms than only frontend developers. 

I was thinking going deep in frontend and learning more helps before.but current job market is changing my views.

Just an hour ago I had a talk with someone I got to knew through my neighbour. He is a backend engineer by profession and experienced in the field. So I contacted him as I was looking for any job/internship and if he could refer me in any company through his networking. He asked what I was currently learning so I told him I am doing Full-Stack. I did 3 months internship in frontend and was going for backend so I could become a full-fledged developer. He told me not to do that instead pick either frontend or backend and go for it. He advised that big companies usually don't hire full-stack developers instead hire these roles separately so I should just focus on the domain I am good at.

My placements are very close and I am learning as much as I can full-time so what should I do? I am already anxious whether I will get placed or not due to current market situation and advice like this makes me doubt whether I am going correctly or just wasting my time and efforts.

So; can anyone tell me what should I do? Should I do full-stack or go with either frontend or backend?

Should I just focus in one field?

Hi everyone, I am working as a ruby on rails backend engineer in a service based giant of India for past 3 years ..

Thinking of changing my role to a front-end developer (I know front-end as ruby on rails requires a good amount of front-end knowledge)

What are some things to keep in mind while changing roles, also for a 3 year experience, what salary should I expect in Bangalore/Gurgaon...?

Changing role. From backend to frontend

Currently I am doing an SLI in the frontend team ( React ) at a good company, So for the full time roles after college should I stay in frontend or look for backend opportunities ? What is better for the future ? 

P.S. I have worked on full stack projects in the college and enjoy both frontend and backend equally.

Currently I’m working as a frontend developer in a series B funded startup. Can I reach higher levels being a frontend developer or do I need to develop backend skills too

What should be the career trajectory for a frontend developer ?

Suppose you’re a senior frontend/backend/devops person - basically one stack where your core skills are and those same skills will be tested in your next jump interview. Now if you’re a backend person with core skills in Java & Postgresql but due to some reasons you’re now asked to contribute in frontend code. Now you don’t want to sell yourself as fullstack in ur next move and time would be better spent learning Go… So just to make current job easier for yourself, do you spend time in learning frontend too? Or do you just somehow make it work without learning how and why?

And truthfully keeping yourself updated or upskilling in Java itself is a time consuming task.

Hi everyone, currently I am working as backend developer where I have exposure to Java, spring boot, Kafka and other BE tech. 
       I have been offered a job in full stack development where I basically will handle a complete module, which means both in Java backend, some kotlin and react as FE and UI part also. 
     Should I make this switch I'm just concerned will it affect my chances of getting BE centric jobs in future. For reference I have 1.3 years of exp in BE development currently . The company offering job is Target.

1. After backend basics, which language and framework should I start with
