How to avoid “what’s your current ctc?”
These days HRs are asking the employees before sitting for an interview about their current ctc. I don’t want to reveal that to them and want to get paid according to the industry standards/ based on the market conditions. How to smoothly avoid that question and avoid getting underpaid?

Simply state your target CTC and ask for their budget on the very first call. If it's in scope. Go ahead. Or save both your time.

What about payslip verification?

You gotta be honest about it. And have a rock solid answer why the percentage multiple. What I've noticed in interviews I've cracked is if they love you, that number is likely to change. It's a delicate case of how desperate both of you are. Just be honest and say mereko itna chahiye. Are you gonna be able to give? I'm currently on this. I expect the X% hike because so and so reasons. Market correction, skill match, etc

“I am not comfortable divulging this information at this stage.”

What if they don’t move forward without answering that question?

I too did the same. The interview was set with 3 CXO's across 2 days. And at last I was offered the same package that I am drawing presently. So this definitely doesn't work 😔 So I have learned it is always better to divulge the salary after 1/2 rounds.

This is extremely helpful. Thank you 🙏🏻

Know the market( in terms of salaries) a little bit, there is variance but you can narrow down based on industry, company , funding etc.

Have a non-negotiable number below which you wont go and communicate that. (Keep in mind point 1) and try to be a little realistic when putting forward this number ..unless you're chuck norris ) Upto them now whether they have the budget for that or not.

Also try to cooperate/negotiate with the HR by saying this specific conversation is a 2 way street. If you can tell me right now what you are offering I don't mind sharing my details as well.

What's with the daily post about this shit? Just tell your salary and your expected salary.
There is no point hiding it. The only reason the recruiter plays ball with the I feel uncomfortable telling my current compensation bullcrap is that they are desperate to hire someone or they know they can match whatever you will ask.
Most people can't outwit HR when it comes to salary negotiations, it's their whole job, Recruiters have hundreds of calls about this shit daily and only reason they are willing to entertain you is because they need to hire someone asap.

I am openly told to hr that i will go to the interview process if you give me based on my current with 30% otherwise do not waste your time and time and your company resources

You cannot avoid it, better get 2 or 3 offers and try to raise it than sticking with single company.
Good thing is big companies will have min bands, so even if you are making less, your pay rise will be substantially increased if you crack them.

Asking them for their budget instead is the best option.
Previous CTC is a hard question to avoid TBH
