I was currently in a project with no proper planning and the majority of the code written by team mates are full of bugs. The code is being written for a new application not yet deployed or in the testing stage so no way of knowing the bugs.
If I point out the bugs I end up fixing them and it is getting really frustrating. But I can't just look away. I'm 💯 sure this application won't even work. 
Should I just ignore and continue my work?

Lately it's been really hard trying to cope up with derogatory comments and people trying to pull you down.

I build/refactored some of our codebase and things go south in terms of performance at few places. 
I realised the mistake and fixed the performance bottlenecks that happened because of me in least time possible. 

But people still look down on me on and manager keeps passing hurtful comments about the incident every now and then.

Moreover there's worse happening fellow people start blaming you for the performance of code you haven't even touched. You are just utilizing some function in your codebase written by some other person.

I don't know how to handle all this and what should I do to avoid this? 
Mistakes happen, bugs go on prod, things can break but as far as once everything stabilise, we should move on.

I have joined a company recently. Now I am coding of a new feature, but whenever I wrote any code for new features everytime there is some bug is coming at the testing time.
What should I do any suggestions will be appreciated

after 4 years of experience in corporate life i came to realize that if you want to get promoted and get max visibility then don't solve any issue on your own. 

Which means if you find some bug/issue which might become a big issue then don't solve it silently and expect others to appreciate you for it later on, they don't know the impact of the bug, you won't get enough appreciation 

Present it, involve your manager, involve his manager, involve other managers. Let it become a big issue, only then you will get credit for finding the bug and also for coming up with the solution. 

People don't respect those who avoid bugs, but those who solve bugs. So be that person.

Trust me there is no other way.

I regret not following this.

How do you train your intern if you have any?

I work in a small startup, we have 10 people in Frontend Team. 2 SDE-2, rest all SDE-1. 
I joined as Sde-1, when I joined them, we were 4(2 SDE-2 and 2 SDE-1).

At the time of joining, they had a messy codebase, nobody cared about writing good, optimized code etc. 

Whenever I got chance to work on old feature, I used to re-write entire code from scratch, made reusable functions, components and moved common functionalities there, all these made the UI better, platform stable. 
Worked on optimization and performance. These folks never cared about all these things. 

Also started peer reviewing everyone's PRs, explained them various design patterns and made them write re-usable components, optimized, bug-free code and other things.

Now I came to know, all these efforts of my mine never reached my manager to due manipulation by one of the SDE-2. 

My manager likes this guy and allowed him to handle the FE team. 
This guy has shown that he's the one who took all these initiative and he got all these things done by the team. 
He involved the other SDE-2 in this game. 

Fast forward 1 year, I see most of my code has been slightly modified by him, moved to new file and my actual file is deleted. 
He has done this in order to remove my GitHub history. 
I'm now getting frustrated and don't know how to handle this. 

Resigning is not an option and raising with manager won't help as he's slightly biased and won't believe me. 

Any help would be appreciated.

If you have practical experience, can you please share some references that can help me get started ?

In particular, I have some apprehensions around how do you do bugfixes/hotfixes once you have shipped the code. That is the cornerstone of modern agile product building, but according to my understanding it'snot easy to achieve. If you have any references that can help me understand this in detail, please share.

For the past two years, I have been working as a software engineer at a service-based company. In this type of organization, employees are often assigned to different projects over time.

Currently, my manager, who also serves as the team lead, has been engaging in excessive micromanagement. They seem to be nitpicking and closely scrutinizing nearly every aspect of my work, which I find to be a very frustrating and stifling experience.

This level of micromanagement has made me feel uncomfortable and hindered my ability to work effectively. I am now considering changing jobs, as I believe this working environment is not conducive to my professional growth and development.

Given the challenges I'm facing with my manager's approach, I am wondering if it would be a good decision to seek employment elsewhere. I am contemplating this move in order to find a work environment that is better aligned with my needs and allows me to thrive as a software engineer.

My manager is overly focused on minor details and nitpicking my work.

I have a colleague who is terribly inefficient at work. She breaks the code all the time and her code throws runtime errors all the time. 

While I do my due diligence during code reviews, it’s hard for me to justify it all the time. Most of the time, I end up fixing her issues. I do communicate the scope of improvement every time I review her code and add a dozens of basic review comments. While she does fix the issues, she doesn’t follow basic rules. I expect better from her being 11-12 years experienced software engineer.

Having said that, she speaks to me nicely and she is always friendly with the team. I have given her feedback multiple times in a friendly manner and she does seem to take it positive. But I don’t see that getting reflected in her work. She keeps repeating the same mistakes.

She simply doesn’t think the big picture while coding. Applies point fix and makes it work temporarily, screwing the other features of application.

My manager is overly chilled guy. He hardly cares about my code or her code. He doesn’t understand any code and talking to him in a technical language is a waste of time. Even if we encounter a production issue, my manager doesn’t show any signs of concerns. 

How do I deal with this situation?

Basically let's say if you're on remote and you are working on a large code base which was built over the years. You have been assigned something to do & you end up in a hurdle or loop. You can't seem to get it working or whatever you think it's not working. How do you proceed in this situation, given the remote environment , can't go and tap on someone's shoulder's immediately. Please share your thoughts. I'm getting stuck in this kind of situation these days and would need insights.

How do you thrive or unblock yourself from a hurdle

feeling like I am literally in the worst phase of my life. Our company is taking ownership of an abroad project and those abroad folks are not supportive or even if they support us then they give little information so that we can't take ownership. so we freshers have to figure out everything, and now even after figuring out, my manager and higher management asks me anything with respect to the product(features, deployment, anything literally- it's a big & complex project) even though I am a fresher and don't even have the proper knowledge and then ask us to explain to them what we know, and it's literally frustrating to explain to every single guy every single time. Because the manager asks to prepare to explain to him and then to the higher manager and then whenever something is there they keep asking again and again to give a presentation or our ideas about it, but they don't even ask abroad folks when they are the one who is doing the work. I just feel like I can't keep up with this and I want to resign. How to say no to the manager for doing a particular work again and again or should I resign because I am feeling very low right now and still after 1 year it looks like I have wasted the time because I got to write code for maybe 5% and 90-95% feels like college presentation. Every time there's something and they ask the same thing 3-4 times, sometimes it would be give the x info or then y info and like this only  and because of that i can't do the real work or work on new features because the Indian manager and higher officials keep giving extra work which they should ask from US folks. What should I do please suggest

Hi folks,
I recently got laid off from a startup where 50% of the engineering team was let go. I was working as an SDE and during a restructuring, my role was changed to SDE-2 without any increase in pay or responsibilities. I have a total of 2.5 years of experience. In my first company (where I worked for a year), there weren't many projects, so I didn't have the opportunity to learn or code much. However, in my second company, I primarily worked on the backend using Go, Django, Kafka, MongoDB, & PostgreSQL.
I realize that although I gained exposure in my second job, I didn't delve deeply into the technologies. I mainly focused on completing business tasks quickly, learning new things just to finish the task at hand, without solidifying my understanding afterward.
My experience seems suitable for an SDE-2 role, but I'm unsure if I can perform the role with complete honesty and may struggle. Some friends in similar situations reassure me that this struggle is common in SDE-2 roles. However, I feel I might be better off starting again as an SDE-1, focusing on my weak areas, and aiming for a promotion later. There are very few SDE-1 job openings currently.
I am actively interviewing for SDE-2, and not able to clear system design interviews. Tbh, I feel very humiliated as when I am not able to answer their questions it feels like I am wasting their time or they would be thinking: Oh this guy has been working for so long and doesn't even know anything.

Now I get it why people think Indian Software engineers are not that good in comparison to other countries' devs: the reason is people like me. 
This realization burdens me with guilt, occupying my thoughts constantly. However, I am confident that I can crack SDE-1 easily. I have good DSA & good enough LLD, &HLD skills for SDE1. I am looking for companies who can match my prev Salary: 22 L, 2 Bonus.
Can u help how to navigate this career situation effectively without increasing my guilt or feeling constantly humiliated?

Laid Off | Stuck Now | Too Anxious | Please guide

First work on the feeling of humiliation and self worthlessness. Don't ignore this, I've done it and it's one of my biggest regret. Working on this will feel a waste of time initially given job search is highest priority, I assure you your future self would thank you.  
  
 Now you are clearly very self aware, most incompetent people don't even know their shortcomings. And you know what, many comparatively incompetent people are making much more money, having much less self doubt and just living more - it's like being more self aware is a curse.  
  
 How do you get out of this curse? It's a slow process. Write down the things that make you feel that way, come up with an an action plan on what you could do to reduce that - clear goals and actions always relive anxiety. Writing things down is extremely important, keep coming back to it whenever you feel the same way, eventually you would reason your way out of this. Most of the time you are in a loop, living in guilt and self doubt for the same reasons over and over. Documentation of these feelings over time will make it look so silly, how could the same problem give you so much mental pain again and again.  
  
 You will do just fine career wise. With a few more years of experience, I can guarantee you will evolve over time, the problems giving you so much mental pain would seem very trivial then - that if you are able to resolve these feelings - otherwise it's a hell I wouldn't want for my worst enemies.  
  
 Some questions to ponder over -  
 1. Can you do the job search while being just a little gentle on yourself? 
 2. Does failure mean you have no worth? Can you fail more gracefully?  
 3. Does 2.5 years of mistakes(even if it see that way) mean you can't do amazing things in coming years? 
 4. Above all, does feelings of humiliation and worthlessness help you in any way? If nothing else changes, wouldn't it be better to just be a little gentler on yourself? 
  
 Take care, you don't have a career problem, a mental health one instead

Hello everyone, I'd like to share my thoughts on my two-year journey at Barclays: Lately I’ve  putting in a lot of effort to excel and learn, I've noticed a focus on speed over code quality. This seems to be a consistent attitude across the entire team, including senior leaders. 

My daily routine includes working  on improving code quality myself , while also meeting project deadlines and commitments to the user. However, it's disheartening that my manager doesn't prioritize the process of code improvement. Additionally, best coding practices are not being followed consistently. 

While I'm committed to performing well in my role, I'm facing a dilemma: Should I put aside my focus on code improvement, even though it's a valuable learning opportunity, and solely align with my manager's directives? 

Furthermore, I have future aspirations of changing roles. How can I effectively manage my time between preparing for a new position and addressing the current challenges at hand?  Should I detach from my current role to concentrate solely on preparation? Or is there a way to find a middle ground and balance both aspects? Your insights would be greatly appreciated !

My job is to develop applications and dashboards for my clients. My client manager is an enthusiast. He asks for my base code which usually i don't share or pbix files for the dashboards which again I don't share. When I say i don't share it means we share frontend and not the backend.

Ideally, if I share the whole logic, he may find a different developer and modify my code, which might be legal but not a usual practice. Anyways my concern is that he tries to find faults with it which again is not something that he should be doing.

Do you think this is right? And anything I can do to make him stop this?

I was assigned a development task. We could not come up with a solution to implement few of the requirements from PM side. We managed to push an MVP after cutting down on few requirements. There are new requirements coming up related to this task. I have been unable to come up with a generic solution for this and I feel irritated when working on this task. No one from my team has knowledge or has worked on this task. I am ready to hand off this task to my teammates and have told my seniors that I don't want to work on it anymore. Any thoughts from fellow developers on my approach? Have you faced such issues?

Hi folks, I am a fronted developer with  5+ years of experience in TCS. I am doing well in my previous project but that is complete then I joined another project where I am struggling to do a smaller job as well. I am not sure what's going to happen to me every time I am the only person who always points out even if I make that mistake or not. Even though nothing motivated me, day by day my performance was going down I am feeling tired from this same time I am thinking about leaving the project and searching for something new but they are not releasing me. Due to this I visit the doctor and he says you are in depression and suggest some pills. Nothing motivates me here. Can anyone suggest to me what I do now.

Frontend Engineer

I work at this desi startup, and this other day my CTO invites me to a call in late hours while he was testing a new feature he found some issues in part of the code that an ex employee wrote.
I told him I don’t have idea about this specific thing as the ex employee built that out(he was fairly old there and I’m quite new in the company) so I don’t know why he built it that way and if certified functionality exists.
Than he started rambling that I’m Sr. Engg here so I should think about things end to end(the ex emp was also Sr.) and said that it was “concerning” that rather than knowing something I answered with I don’t know as he built that part.
Some more context - I was given this feature in haphazard manner in small parts and later I become the one who worked majorly on it but the initial setup and some flow of the code was written by the ex emp.

Btw from my colleagues I got to know that he gives bad reviews to mostly everyone and expects everyone to work extra hard though this is the 2nd time he’s given me a concerning review.

What would you do if you were in my case?
Should I retaliate by confronting him or let it be because he has a habit of doing this.
